Sons of Ares (sonsofares) | 11 comments Just posted this on SONS OF ARES Facebook page for discussion:
A fan says "My Demons" by Starset reminds him of RR. And the music video is on a red planet. What do you think? Do you have songs that make you think of RR? Comment below... GO!
They're all around me,
Circling like vultures
They wanna break me and wash away my colors
Wash away my colors
Take me high and I'll sing
Oh you make everything okay
We are one in the same
Oh you take all of the pain away
Save me if I become
My demons

Carrie | 21 comments I just finished the book again this week, and I was listening to Keane, which is and always will be one of my favorite bands. The song "Bend And Break" seems especially appropriate for the time of Darrow's Carving, or just the book in general. Plus it's just a great song :)
When you, when you forget your name
When old faces all look the same
Meet me in the morning when you wake up
Meet me in the morning then you'll wake up
If only I don't bend and break
I'll meet you on the other side
I'll meet you in the light
If only I don't suffocate
I'll meet you in the morning when you wake

Bitter and hardened heart
Aching waiting for life to start
Meet me in the morning when you wake up
Meet me in the morning then you'll wake up

If only I don't bend and break
I'll meet you on the other side
I'll meet you in the light
If only I don't suffocate
I'll meet you in the morning when you wake

If only I don't bend and break
I'll meet you on the other side
I'll meet you in the light
If only I don't suffocate
I'll meet you in the morning when you wake

I'll meet you on the other side
I'll meet you in the light
If only I don't suffocate
I'll meet you in the morning when you wake

Coldplay-- White Shadows

When I was a young boy I tried to listen
And I wanna feel like that
Little white shadows, blink and miss them
Part of a system I am

This reminds of Darrow's early life as a Red and how he simply accepted his low status, his leaders, and his life.

If you ever feel like something's missing?
Things you'll never understand
Little white shadows, sparkle and glisten
Part of a system plan

These next lines go along with his doubts after losing the Laurel and watching the stars with Eo. He's coming to realize that maybe there could be more, maybe there's something missing.

All this noise, I'm waking up
All the space I'm taking up
All this sound is breaking up

Right here is when Eo is taken from him and hung from the gallows. His life comes crashing down and with watching the ArchGovenor's stern face he recognizes just how pitiful their situation is.

Ohhhh...

Maybe you get what you wanted
Maybe you stumbled upon it
Everything you ever wanted
In a permanent state

This bit above is when Darrow first looks upon the surface life of Mars. Everything Eo ever dreamed of, everything the Reds work to create is already above them in a permanent state.

Maybe you'll know when you see it
Maybe if you say it, you'll mean it
And when you find it, you keep it
In a permanent state
A permanent state

When I was a young boy
I tried to listen
Don't you wanna feel like that?

We're part of the human race and
All of the stars and the outer space
We're part of the system plan

The preceding three lines speak of the Society. Darrow now understands just how large the lie and just how wide it spans across the Solar system. Reds too are part of the human race. They too have pace in Society.

All this noise, I'm waking up
And all the space, I'm taking up
I said I cannot hear you, you're breaking up

Maybe you get what you wanted
Maybe you stumbled upon it
Everything you ever wanted
In a permanent state

Maybe you'll know when you see it
Maybe if you say it, you'll mean it
And when you find it, you keep it
In a permanent state
A permanent state

Swim out on a sea of faces,
The tide of the human races,
An answer now is what I need.

See it in a new sun rising
See it break on your horizon
Oh, come on love, stay with me...

There are more correlations, but frankly, I'm not up for typing the rest out. I'm sure you can see at least some of what I can; I don't believe I'm grasping that much.

Samara | 1 comments Gold - Sir Sly... Obviously the title is a perfect reference to Darrow's transformation. The refrain of "I hope you find your dream" infers Eo's dream.

A mouth made of metal, metal, metal
Pocket full of yellow, yellow
Pocket full of gold
And I hope you find
I hope you find your dream, yeah

What did you say back to me? [What did Eo say to him?]
Dreaming out, maybe cruising
Maybe talking crazy, but I want it
A hundred thousand ways to choose it
Who the hell is out and who's in? [The Academy]
Trouble, maybe I'm too subtle

A mouth made of metal, metal, metal
Pocket full of yellow, yellow
Pocket full of gold
And I hope you'll find
I hope you'll find your dream
And darling never settle, settle, settle
Chasing down the devil, devil
Chasing down the gods [Literally, Darrow chases down the gods]
And I hope you'll find
I hope you'll find your dream

I'm living like a silent movie [Under surveillance]
Shut your mouth and see straight through me
Finding that you're hiding in your money (money, m-m-money)
I got a million ways to lose it
But nothing in my life would prove it
Chasing, all my time is wasted

A mouth made of metal, metal, metal
Pocket full of yellow, yellow
Pocket full of gold
And I hope you'll find
I hope you'll find your dream
And darling never settle, settle, settle
Chasing down the devil, devil
Chasing down the gods
And I hope you'll find
I hope you'll find your dream

It's the push and the pull
It's the rise and the fall
I don't owe you a single thing
I don't owe you anything
It's the push and the pull
It's the big and the small
I don't owe you a single thing
Not a god damn thing

A mouth made of metal, metal, metal
Pocket full of yellow, yellow
Pocket full of gold
And I hope you'll find
I hope you'll find your dream
And darling never settle, settle, settle
Chasing down the devil, devil
Chasing down the gods
And I hope you'll find
I hope you'll find your dream

A mouth made of metal, metal, metal
Pocket full of yellow, yellow
Pocket full of gold
And I hope you find
I hope you find your dream (I don't owe you anything)
And darling never settle, settle, settle
Chasing out the devil, devil
Chasing out the god
And I hope you found
I hope you find your dream (I don't owe you anything)

I hope you find your dream

Carrie | 21 comments I had the radio on the other day, and "I'm Not Your Hero" by Tegan & Sara came on. It's one of my favs, and as I was listening I began to realize that in the context of RR, this is pretty much all Darrow. See if you agree:

"I'm Not Your Hero" by Tegan & Sara

Standing where I am now, standing up at all
I was used to feeling like I was never gonna see myself at the finish line
Hanging on to parts of me, hanging on at all
I was used to seeing no future in my sight line

Sometimes it feels like they wanna remind me
Send all those villains after me

I'm not their hero
But that doesn't mean that I wasn't brave
I never walked the party line
Doesn't mean that I was never afraid
I'm not your hero
But that doesn't mean we're not one and the same

Feeling like I am now lighting up the hall
I was used to standing in the shadow of a damaged heart
Learning all I know now, losing all I did
I never used to feel like I'd be standing so far ahead

Sometimes it feels what I recovered you lost
Sending your peaceful loss to me

I'm not their hero
But that doesn't mean that I wasn't brave
I never walked the party line
Doesn't mean that I was never afraid
I'm not your hero
But that doesn't mean we're not one and the same

Sometimes it feels like the side that I'm on
Plays the toughest hand, holds the longest stand
Sometimes it feels like I'm all that they've got
It's so hard to know I'm not what they want

Sometimes it feels like the side that I'm on
Plays the toughest hand, holds the longest stand
Sometimes it feels like I'm all that they've got
It's so hard to know I'm not what they want

I'm not their hero
But that doesn't mean that I wasn't brave
I never walked the party line
Doesn't mean that I was never afraid
I'm not your hero
But that doesn't mean we're not one and the same
I do my best to walk the finest line
Till I've had all that I can take

Lauren Evatt (peerlessscarred) | 14 comments A song that reminds of Red Rising is Avenge Sevenfold's Hail to the King. It's a great song and I like to listen to it while reading Red Rising. :)

Arjan de Vries | 2 comments Mumford & Sons - Dust Bowl Dance

The young man stands on the edge of his porch
The days were short and the father was gone
There was no one in the town and no one in the field
This dusty barren land had given all it could yield

I've been kicked off my land at the age of sixteen
And I have no idea where else my heart could have been
I placed all my trust at the foot of this hill
And now I am sure my heart can never be still
So collect your courage and collect your horse
And pray you never feel this same kind of remorse

Seal my heart and brake my pride
I've nowhere to stand and now nowhere to hide
Align my heart, my body, my mind
To face what I've done and do my time

Well you are my accuser, now look in my face
Your opression reeks of your greed and disgrace
So one man has and another has not
How can you love what it is you have got
When you took it all from the weak hands of the poor?
Liars and thieves you know not what is in store

There will come a time I will look in your eye
You will pray to the God that you always denied
The I'll go out back and I'll get my gun
I'll say, "You haven't met me, I am the only son"

Seal my heart and brake my pride
I've nowhere to stand and now nowhere to hide
Align my heart, my body, my mind
To face what I've done and do my time

Well yes sir, yes sir, yes it was me
I know what I've done, cause I know what I've seen
I went out back and I got my gun
I said, "You haven't met me, I am the only son"

@Arjan--I never expected to see Mumford & Sons in the mix, yet here we are and the lyrics don't lie. I can see the parallels, nice job!

Charlie (areadingmachine) | 15 comments The Song from King Arthur is one of the most hauntingly beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard and for some reason it reminded me a lot of Darrow's qeust.

Song of Exile (We Will Go Home)

Land of bear and land of eagle
Land that gave us birth and blessing
Land that called us ever homewards
We will go home across the mountains

We will go home, we will go home
We will go home across the mountains
We will go home, we will go home
We will go home across the mountains

Land of freedom land of heroes
Land that gave us hope and memories
Hear our singing hear our longing
We will go home across the mountains

We will go home, we will go home
We will go home across the mountains
We will go home, we will go home
We will go home across the mountains

Land of sun and land of moonlight
Land that gave us joy and sorrow
Land that gave us love and laughter
We will go home across the mountains

We will go home, we will go home
We will go home across the mountains
We will go home, we will go home
We will go home across the mountains

When the land is there before us
We have gone home across the mountains
We will go home, we will go home
We will go home across the mountains

Tim (squeakywindow) Old thread but I just read both books....

Amy Martin (lyrek) | 1 comments Song for Sevro, All I want is More by Reel Big Fish. Every time they yell, why don't you go fuck yourself, I think of him lol.

Robyn | 9 comments Evening Star by TYR makes me think of Darrow's obligation to Eo's message. If it wasn't for the title (Evening Star) I probably would not think of the Red Rising series at all but I cant help it now.

Brett Butler | 3 comments Taking Back Sunday - Flicker Fade
It fits Darrow and Mustang.

Also, when Cassius stabs Darrows gut. I always think of this song...
Bell X1 - In Every Sunflower

The end.

Hannah Dawson | 1 comments I actually recently made a Spotify playlist just for this trilogy. Some songs don't fit perfectly, but whenever I hear them I can't help but think about the books. Here is the link if you wanna check it out https://play.spotify.com/user/hdawson...

Lauren Evatt (peerlessscarred) | 14 comments I was listening to Unstoppable by Motionless in White and I thought the lyrics could be the anthem for the Sons of Ares and Darrow.

Victoria | 1 comments This song reminded me of Red Rising and Darrow

Julie | 4 comments you should DEFINITELY listen to Dark Matter of Mark Petrie. he makes very awesome game music but this would be THE BEST for Red Rising, every song I think of scenes of Red Rising. Let me know what you think!

Maxwell | 30 comments I was listening to "Don't mess with me" by Temposhark and the lyrics were actually starting to make me think of the Jackal and his subtle climb to power.

Then Centuries by Fallout Boy started playing while I was at the gym and, since I was already thinking about the trilogy at the time, I realized how appropriate the lyrics are.

Maxwell | 30 comments Just heard the song Ten Million Voices by Shaman's Harvest and the lyrics feel like a perfect fit for the world and the rebellion in general

Denise Alcaraz (inkshoe) It hit me today while listening to Music. I found the perfect song for Red Rising: Iron Sky by Paolo Nutini.
