i donated half my books so they were 100 app

I am running out of places for more shelving...

WOW! 5 bookstores!? I am so jealous! Growing up in Quebec, we did not have any option to buy any books in English where I live....French only. So, I could only buy books whenever we traveled to another province, or to a larger area, like Montreal. I went to university in New Brunswick, though, and totally made up for this! I went nuts! Thus, the book collection began in earnest....I also worked at a Chapters bookstore for 2 years, racking up tons of buys with my 30% discount (including 30% off ON TOP OF SALES PRICES also!) and then when I became a teacher, I got a teacher discount from wholesalers, as well as $1500 a year to spend on books for the book club I started for our high school students. I won a Quebec literacy award from the province, and then got that $1500/year as a result-- the students were/are SO happy that each year (at school at least) they can help me pick the books that they want to read and get - in ENGLISH! I am not sure of the actual # at the moment.....at least 1,000 books, for sure! --Jen from Quebec :0)

I just recently gathered up every book in the house in order to scan them on goodreads( I was curious about how many I had), organize them better or trade them for credit. According to Goodreads I have about 1,460 books. But I know that number is off a little bit, but not sure by how much...? Majority of them are physical. I think last time I checked how many ebooks I had it was something around 600ish? I’m not sure what my read total is...? Goodreads says 400, but I know that is wrong because I tried to just scan things as quick as possible and get them on goodreads, so to save time I just filed everything as TBR. One day I will go through there and clearly mark what has and has not been read so far.... I just haven’t gotten around to that yet >.>; and I probably have donated / trade for credit about 200-300 books, give or take. I still have several tote bags filled with more books to trade / donate. It is just a not very fun task because I hate carrying heavy bags of books ( unless they are coming home with me!) to the store and then wait for them to go through and check everything. I’m too lazy. :P

Those are all the unread ones I don't usually keep books after I read them. Mostly I sell them back to a used bookstore, leave them out places for other people to pick up (bookcrossing.com) or delete them off my Kindle. And yet I still manage to have over 1000 books that I haven't read yet. ROFL!

An ideal amount to own unread for me would be around 10. And maybe 50 favourites that I'll keep forever. I think I'm a reluctant bibliophile! 😉

A book/kindle is like a security blanket for me. I don't leave home without one even if I'm too busy to actually read it. As long as it's there, I'm calm and cool. For the most part anyway. It's a great way to ignore everyone around you without being rude. "
I am the same way! I do not leave the home without a kindle or book in my purse or pocket. I can't stand being somewhere (like a waiting room or out somewhere waiting on people to arrive, etc.) and having "down time". Sure, I could be just another one of the millions of people around the world with their face glued to their phone.... the smart phone is amazing, don't get me wrong... but it's just not as good as having a book to read. I am very NOT good in social situations and I would much rather sit somewhere and read my book then have to deal with awkwardly talking to people. D:
The other day I was reading my book in a coffee shop and this guy started talking to me about my tattoos (I have bright pop culture tattoos). And he was super friendly, very nice, it was nice that he recognized the show they were from, but............................ I just wanted to read my book and have a coffee. -.-;; That kinda makes me sound bad.....but, like, I am so bad at talking to people face to face. I never know what to say and I just have this awkward, scary smile on my face like i don't know what smiles are for, and then I say something that may or may not be coherent and I just sound like the kid, who when asked by the news reporter what he thought of the carnival, he slowly replies that he likes turtles. It is just..... BAD. -.-;

I might have a problem....
I am not seeking help for said problem :p lol

I have read most; but have quite a few that are still on the TBR.... :O

I recently did a purge of my books as well and only kept certain collections, including all of my King books. By the time I was done I had around eight trash bags full of books which I donated to my town library.

You did the right thing by donating them. Some people actually burn them...

Even in 2018 they still do that? I couldn't imagine. If I couldn't donate them I would at least try to sell them, like on Amazon.

As someone who's been where you are, I'd HIGHLY advise Library Thing. It lets you add about 200 books for free then asks for payment, but you can pay a lifetime fee (when I joined it was $25, I think it now allows you to choose how much).
I'm at 4.5k and counting, and I absolutely LOVE it, and you can add different tags and stuff so you could also add your ebooks and stuff.
As to my answer to the thread... I'm at 4,548 physical books, but I haven't added my ebooks to my catalogue... so more than that if you include all formats.

That's admirable! I wish I had that level of self-control. Though it'd be hard to try and keep up with that working for a review site. (At least... that's what I tell myself so I don't have to get rid of my books. :P)

Haha, yeah, I get that battle, too. We've been gradually acquiring more shelves over the years, but are at a point now where we've pretty much run out of walls against which to put shelves... but the landlord also sold the house, and the new landlord wants to put the rent up, so we'll possibly be moving to an area a bit further out, with bigger houses that cost a little less. So... more shelf space! :D
No problems at all. It seems we have some common interests and books in common. Not sure if you're asking about sending a friend request, but if you are, I'd be happy to stay in touch. :)
