Sorrel | 9 comments I don't know the exact publication date of this book but I would guess in the early 2000s. I think it was an American book and it was about a girl who was about 13? It was called something like Guess Who and was about a girl who found a machine that when predicted who someone would marry in a basement. What follows is her best friend hearing about it and (I think) charging people to come and receive their predictions. The main character gets a prediction of a boy in the year below her at school who she finds annoying and is irritated at getting predicted with. The best friend writes down all of the predictions in a book.
Meanwhile her Dad is about to marry this woman who the main character hates. The Machine predicts that he will marry her.
The most popular girl in school gets her prediction and has a long line of husbands each with like a cross beside them meaning that she divorces them? Anyway so the popular girl steals the book when she leaves and plans to read out everyone's matches, including the main character's with the match that she's embarrassed about.
Meanwhile the main character is hoping to break the soon-to-be step mum and her Dad. Stuff happens with her trying to get her Dad interested in some woman from a Hardware store or something and her starting to like her predicted boy a bit more. And in the end

***********SPOILER**********

It finished with her checking the machine and seeing that her Dad isn't paired with anyone.
Any help would be really appreciated!
