julie (julielizabeth14) Finished Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire sometime this past week. I think it was Tuesday morning? I'm not sure. All I know is that it is finally done. I didn't update my progress until today, though. I enjoyed it and I would recommend it to someone who's debating if they want to carry on with the series (although I don't know why someone would even consider that!). I would write more about how I felt about the book, but it's been a couple of days and I'm currently trying to make my through the last three books before February 1st! Is that humanly possible? Probably! For me? We'll have to see, but not if I don't get off the internet!

Little Bee (littlebeesreads) | 199 comments I read Hot and Bothered by Serena Bell by Serena Bell. This is my first Harlequin Blaze book I have read. I was a bit disappointed. The book was just over 200 pages and it took forever to even get to a sex scene. Seriously....Harlequin Blaze...book called Hot and Bothered, which is accurate. There was a LOT of burning chemistry. I just felt it took too long. And then once the steamy scenes did occur...the book was just about done.

If you don't know where to start with steamy reads, i think this would be a good one for someone interested in that type of genre. But, it just wasn't enough for me.

@Julie I really love that series, so much!

@Bridgett Good review! 200 pages seems like a big build-up! XD

Sainabou Hey guys :)

I read Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning which was really good; about a girl whose sister gets murdered whilst in Dublin studying so she travels there to find out why and realises that she has powers which might explain why her sister was good. Its really good but only start it if you are willing to start an elecen book series lol

I also read The Mirror & the Maze (The Wrath and the Dawn, #1.5) by Renee Ahdieh , The Crown & the Arrow (The Wrath and the Dawn, #0.5) by Renee Ahdieh and The Wrath and the Dawn (The Wrath and the Dawn, #1) by Renee Ahdieh . The first two are novellas, one based on the Calipha's maid and her meeting of the head guard and the other one is about the Calipha seeing his bride for the first time. Wrath and the dawn though is loosely based around the Arabian nights tales in which the King used to marry a woman and kill her before the next morning. Its a really good book I highly recommend (its also a series but only two full length books and three novellas which are really short, not even 50 pages)

And then I read Dr. ER (St. Luke's Docuseries, #2) by Max Monroe which is the second book in the docuseries and is the story of the head of the ER departmant and a gossip columnist that tries to catch him the act doing something bad for his image

I read King's Cage (Red Queen, #3) by Victoria Aveyard , third book in the Red Queen series about a society ruled by the colour of peoples blood (red and silver), the silvers have powers and the reds were their servants but then some reds start to develop powers which makes them able to fight back finally

And then Crazy Pucking Love (Taking Shots, #3) by Cindi Madsen is about a university hockey player and one of his teammates' sisters which they saw as forbidden lol
This is one of the naked men covers but I promise I am just finishing the series I already started

I read You Are a Badass How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero . I want to read more self helf and non fiction books as a personal goal of mine :)

I read Autoboyography by Christina Lauren about a bisexual boy that likes another guy in a Morman community. This was so heartbreaking though :( but so amazing honestly

I read Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1) by Cassandra Clare which is a spin off of the Mortal instruments and its based in the 18th century and is speakpunk which is a genre I am trying to read more of. It's about shadowhunters and a downworlder thats trying to go against a code that was decided upon between them

I read Brisingr (The Inheritance Cycle, #3) by Christopher Paolini which I have been reading for months and months but finally got through. It was a reread though and in this book Eragon and Saphira and the Varden are gaining ground and heading towards Galbotorik towards their final battle with the evil king. Reading this again, I realise how pompous this whole story sounds but I've started now so might as well finish lol

And finally I read Dr. NEURO (St. Luke's Docuseries, #3) by Max Monroe which is the third book in the docuseries and about another doctor that falls for a woman that has history with someone in his family. Yikes ;)

Okay thats it :)

Anne Vivliohomme (annevivliohomme) Ooh I loved King's Cage, I thought that it was so much better than Glass Sword. I also adored Clockwork Angel! Especially Will's bookishness:) What did you think of the books?

Sainabou Anne wrote: "Ooh I loved King's Cage, I thought that it was so much better than Glass Sword. I also adored Clockwork Angel! Especially Will's bookishness:) What did you think of the books?"

YES! I carried on the red queen series but I thought the storyline was so stupid but finally I really liked this book! I really liked the chapters with Evangeline, she was so much more than what we thought seeing her from Mare's eyes you know and Carmen was also really good, in the second book I thought she was just really whiny you know?

And yeah I love Will but he reminded me so much of Jace- the same recklessness, the same boldness and the way he has a comeback for everything :)
So ireally cant wait to carry on with the series

message 108: by Anne (new)

Anne Vivliohomme (annevivliohomme) Yeahh!! I agree to everything! I really disliked Evangeline in the first two books but in King's Cage I actually really liked her!! And there is no book series that I have read as often as the Infernal Devices :D

Hah! I have been planning on reading it for ages but I forgot the Mortal instruments so I wanted to read it in the order that recommended which was the first three of the mortal instruments and thn alternating between infernal devices and the mortal instruments

But i felt so sorry for Evangeline; the silvers really have no life outside alliances

Little Bee (littlebeesreads) | 199 comments Ugh I was so over the Fever series! I think I stopped around book 3 because I just couldn't anymore. I felt she was too whiney . I also have a hard time with stories where the main female character is made to be slow because she is southern.

I liked the Wrath and the Dawn, but I felt like it didn't live up to it's hype. Around the time I also read A Thousand Nights (A Thousand Nights, #1) by E.K. Johnston which is another retelling of the same story and it didn't do it for me either. I felt like the Arabian Nights storyline is too massive for these books to really allow readers to get a good retelling. I still liked Wrath and the Dawn.

I started listening to You are a Badass, it was narrated by the author. I stopped though, havent picked it back up in years.

I added Autoboyography! Sounds good and I am not sure if I need heartbreak right now, but I will put it on my list anyways!

I loved the Infernal Devices series...I liked it better than the Mortal Instruments. I really love Magnus Bane!

I have not read the Eragon series, though I keep hearing great things about it!!

Looks like you have read a lot of books while your computer has been out of commission LMAO

Well I didnt give the wrath and the dawn 5 stars because I feel like the you know what did not justify the actions of the Caliph at all, if I was told that was why my daughter died I would you know what him even more (view spoiler)

Hah! Okay you are right about "southern Belle" characters lmaooo Im still intrigued though

Autoboyography is actually amazing but I have loved everything written by this author so maybe I am biased but I really liked it

I loved the first three of the mortal instruments series but it goes downhill (view spoiler)

LOL I did thankfully which is good :)

Allison Finished A Most Novel Revenge (Amory Ames Mystery #3) by Ashley Weaver in a day. This series is set in England during the 1930s so it’s right up my alley. The MC isn’t a stupid woman either (which really gets my goat). I love the setting, the language, and the playfulness between the main characters (a somewhat happily married couple).

Jack | 13 comments Read Jandy Nelson Slipcase (I'll Give You the Sun/ The Sky is Everywhere) by Jandy Nelson - a book that Sam and I picked up totally randomly at Powell's.

It was hard to get into at first, but picked up about a third of the way through. I ended up liking it and was pleasantly surprised by the way the story came together. The language was a bit flowery for my taste - I think I prefer more direct prose.

Little Bee (littlebeesreads) | 199 comments Piece of Tail (Paranormal Dating Agency, #13) by Milly Taiden

I finished this book recently. Installment #13 to the Paranormal Dating Agency books by Milly Taiden. It is paranormal erotica.

I really enjoy this series. I love listening to the audiobooks because the narrator is fantastic.

Piece of Tail is about Becca and Jaylon. Becca is a leopard and the prowl leader of her leap. She is told she will have to find a mate, so she goes to Gerry Wilder to do so. Jaylon is a new alpha of a local wolf pack who is told he has to find a mate in 30 days, or the elders will find one for him. So he goes to Gerry Wilder. Gerry, the paranormal matchmaking werewolf, decided these two were just what each other needed. Unbeknownst to them, they literally ran into each other at the train station when Becca was on her way to meeting Ms. Wilder. It goes off from there. When they were ready to introduce their mates to their packs, it came to Jaylon's attention that Becca was already mated. He sets of to where her leap is located to find answers. Becca was forced into a mate situation against her will when she was 18. Further, when she got back to her leap to discuss her new mate, the brother of her forced mate from when she was younger came to claim her, through the Right of First Refusal. Well, this didn't work. Jaylon and Becca were permitted to mate officially and they got married. During the wedding, death occurred, and Becca and Jaylon almost died. There were some doozies at the end of it to, but I won't go into that. The sex scenes are always fantastic as well.

It was very good and filled with excitement, sexy times, and each book in the series has its own drama the characters have to get through.

Sainabou Hey guys!

the groups seems so quiet! I hope you are all okay :)
I had exam revision and that why I was gone so long :( but finally I did the exam on Thursday so Im free for a bit until I have to do the next one

During that time I read Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) by Leigh Bardugo - I wanted to read this for ages! but I finally got to it and its about 6 thieves that are sent by someone to rescue a prisoner from the enemy. But this book was so good honestly and I'm excited to read book two :)

I read #1 Crush (#1 Series, #1) by T. Gephart - a girl has a crush on an actor and she does everything she can to meet him to see if he is as amazing in person as on the screen but when she meets him, she just keeps lying and then it just gets complicated lol

That Thing Between Eli & Gwen by J.J. McAvoy - this was one of my favourites :) Eli's fiancee ran away with Gwen's fiance so thats how they know each other and so they start off hating each other but it gets really good :)

Confessions of a Former Puck Bunny by Cindi Madsen - this was a series that I was finishing off. It was okay I guess but not the best book in the series

Annihilation (Southern Reach, #1) by Jeff VanderMeer - this is a very weird and creepy book. Its set in a dystopian world. Four women are sent to explore an uninhabited place that they call area X and really weird things happen. I recommend it lol

Wasted Words (Austen, #1) by Staci Hart - this was a really sweet book that was inspired by Jane Austen's Emma and well I love Jane Austen so I had to read the whole series. A Thousand Letters (Austen, #2) by Staci Hart (based on Persuasion) and Living Out Loud (Austen, #3) by Staci Hart (based on Sense and sensibility). This whole series makes me want to binge on Jane Austen as I haven't read all her books yet

More Than Love You (More Than Words, #3) by Shayla Black - I was excited to get to this book because I am happy that I was at the end of this series but then they found out that they have two long lost siblings lol I give up. I don't recommend this one, the men are chauvinists until they get married and then they realise that women have feelings

Hunt Me Down (Fight for Me, #1.5) by A.L. Jackson - this is a 1.5 of a series I started that i loved. In the first book this couple is already together but this is the story of how they met :)

Stuck-Up Suit by Vi Keeland - my favourite author duo. I always recommend their books, they are always really good

Charged (Saints of Denver, #2) by Jay Crownover - a series I started a long time ago that branched off and now this is the spin off series

Playboy Pilot by Penelope Ward - a girl meets a pilot and they decide to travel together while they figure their lives out

Allison It has been quiet, Miss B :/

I finished two more books in series I already have going: The Jungle Pyramid (Hardy Boys #56) by Franklin W. Dixon and Fearless Fourteen (Stephanie Plum, #14) by Janet Evanovich .

Both books are much of the same. Neither series really goes anywhere but they are still worthwhile reads. The Hardy Books just take me back to a different time and the Stephanie Plum books always make me LOL. It just a good & relaxing time reading these books, something we all need once in a while!

Anne Vivliohomme (annevivliohomme) Hiya! I just read The Sun Also Rises by Hemingway and I was wondering whether any of you have ever read another novel Hemingway and liked it? Because I was so looking forward to reading "the greatest American writer", but he kinda disappointed me... sooo much drinking and whining and repetition and repetition...

But I don't want to give up on Hemingway so if anyone has read a better book by Hemingway, let me know!

That’s my opinion on the dreadful Hemingway.

Erin Troyer Kieffer | 16 comments Just finished Pet Sematary. Creepy! I read a lot of Stephen King and it rarely gives me the creeps but this one has slipped into my dreams every night this week. Not sure if this is partly due to Mr. King himself claiming this is the scariest book hes ever written or that the house with the highway out front and the path out back that leads to an actual pet sematary are all real. A place he lived when he was younger. Loved it! He made me believe. I know a lot of people feel Stephen Kings books can be edited way down but i find the extra info on characters makes them more real and I think he is a phenomenal writer even if you dont really enjoy horror. I was actually trying to remember when i had seen Kings Liseys story as a movie because i can still picture it all clearly in my head when i realized, its never been made into a movie. its the book i can picture in my mind years later because he did such a phenomenal job. Highly recommend... as long as you dont scare too easily or sleep alone close to a graveyard.

Erin Troyer Kieffer | 16 comments Also recently finished Wizard and Glass which is #4 in the Dark Tower series. It took me a bit before i really got into it but by the end it had really picked up. i love how these books cross over so many of Kings other books. Not ready to really give a firm recommendation until i am finished the entire series.

Hi! I like Hemingway sometimes, but he's definitely sort of stark and grim, and I have to be in the mood. You might like to check out some of his short stories. I find his style good in short doses. I read "A Clean Well-Lighted Place", and it's bleak but I like it a lot. At some point in school, I read a few of his Nick Adams stories, which I remember as being more outdoor adventure themed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Nic...

Erin Troyer Kieffer | 16 comments Just finished Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine. Can't say i would recommend. It felt more like a YA novel to me. I don't know, maybe it is? The story had potential but the foreshadowing and misleads were so obvious I didn't feel I needed to read it to find out "who did it". But worse, I found the main character to be kind of annoying and very repetetive. It felt like the book was rushed to be written and like the author doesnt think her readers are very intelligent. It was a quick read and i may read the rest of the series anyways. It wasnt the worst book in the world... I am surprised this book has such good reviews.

Erin Troyer Kieffer | 16 comments I re-read Salems Lot and Misery by Stephen King. Both were excellent! One night just after midnight, about 1/3 of my way into Salems Lot on a very windy night I actually left my library and checked the entire house for vampires. LOL I also just finished Roadwork written by King as Bachman. it was a good book but not one of my favorite King books. I do feel i should mention I do actually read lots of authors! I want to re-read as many of Kings novels as i can before Castle Rock airs this summer.

message 129: by Anne (new)

Anne Vivliohomme (annevivliohomme) @Erin Glad to know I'm not the only one who, after reading a certain book, checks their house for monsters😂

Erin Troyer Kieffer | 16 comments Just finished 2nd Chance by James Patterson. It was ok. I felt like there were some pretty big holes in the story. I also felt the main character that is supposed to be seen as a hero is just an idiot that cant be bothered to call for back up and only survives her God complex by sheer luck each time rather than by skill or intelligence. My mom gave me a bunch from this series so I will read the next 5 books just because i have them. It was a quick somewhat entertaining read anyways.

message 131: by Erin (new)

Erin Troyer Kieffer | 16 comments Finished The Dead Zone and Cujo both by Stephen King. I read both a very long time ago and I think i enjoyed them even more the second time around. All these years later you can see that King had been starting to form ideas for later books all the way back in the 70's. I love how so many of his books cross over. Cujo has always been one of my favorites. Throughout all Kings books there has of course been a lot of dead characters. Being horror and all. I can honestly say the only one I have ever cried over losing is that poor dog!

message 132: by Erin (new)

Erin Troyer Kieffer | 16 comments Finished the dark half by stephen king. While its not one of my absolute favorite SK books or what I would consider scary its still an excellent read.

message 133: by Erin (new)

Erin Troyer Kieffer | 16 comments I finished reading "Slash" by Slash with Anthony Bozza. As a die hard GNR fan it was very emotional! At the beginning I couldn't put it down because all the magic was about to happen but then towards the end I didn't want to pick it up again for a few days because I knew it was all going to end. (This was written long before GNR started touring together again.) If you love GNR or just want a look at what the rock scene was in the 80's and early 90's give it a read. If you are going to be offended reading about strippers, porn stars and drugs... maybe skip it. It may not all be pleasant but it's a piece of history.

message 134: by Little Bee (new)

Little Bee (littlebeesreads) | 199 comments I have read several random books but have not posted them:

Beyond the Gloaming (Sebastian and the Hibernauts #1) by Brendan Murphy This book was different. Sometimes it took me a couple of re-reads on paragraphs or sentences to make sure I understood it. It is based in this place where the boy enters in a dream state. He ends up in a coma, which puts him in this place for a while.

Her Stepbrother is a Monster by Trinity Blacio I like Trinity Blacio, even if she needs a better editor and the stories tend to be the same. Maven's mom is a dragon and Maven does not know it. No one told Maven she was a dragon, and then suddenly her dragon shows up and it is a Royal dragon that hasn't been seen for centuries. It was interesting take on dragon shifting...the dragon is its own being that resides within the person, unlike a shifter being one with the animal.

Asa (Marked Men, #6) by Jay Crownover This is the final installment of the Marked Men series by Jay Crownover. It was a bitter sweet ending, but it was such a wonderful way to say goodbye! I can't really go into detail as each story follows a particular character in the story line and this was Asa's. His sister married Jet in the Jet (Marked Men, #2) by Jay Crownover installment. Asa is a bad guy but trying to be good and struggles with it.

White Trash Zombie Unchained (White Trash Zombie, #6) by Diana Rowland This series is so good. I love it for Audiobook!!! Must listen to this series! The narrator brings all the characters to life and makes it so much more enjoyable. I am not sure if this is the last installment for this series or not, but it follows April who was turned into a zombie in book 1. Zombies are normal people unless they do not get brains and then they start to decompose and fall apart and become mindless brain eaters until they get a brain. April works in the morgue so she can easily get her supplies. She was a drug addict in her human life and zombies cant be drug addicts, but she got addicted to a mod enhancer in the previous book and ate someone who was attacking her, but he came back to life and caused a some weird shambler version of the zombie. Alligators got infected as well. So they have to work with the bad guy from the series, Christie Charish, but she has her own plans and tries to be secretive in her methods. It was really good! Hope there is more!

message 136: by Allison (last edited May 28, 2018 09:02AM) (new)

Allison Read two books this weekend:

A Murder at Rosamund's Gate (Lucy Campion Mysteries, #1) by Susanna Calkins I started out really liking this....and then it meandered away from the mystery and went off into these different tangents. The last 20 pages wraps up the mystery but it’s pretty much coming from nowhere. Like “oh yeah, it’s the end of the book and we have to solve this murder”. The charcaters are all likable except the love interest is kind of spacey and I never really felt the connection between them. 2 Stars because I didn’t hate it but I won’t be continuing the series. 4 books off my tbr!!!!

Shadow and Bone (Grisha Verse, #1) by Leigh Bardugo I loved. Usually YA makes me roll my eyes and throw the book haphazardly onto my bed or couch in frustration (and yet I keep reading YA...) but this book wasn’t like that. Usually a bookworm always wants to be reading but this book I couldn’t wait to get back to. Like I didn’t want to go eat lunch (and I’m a hungry girl) because that would take me away from it for a few mins. It did start lagging three quarters of the way in but they were secluded in one setting so I get there’s not much to do with that but it dropped from a 4 star book (I’m a harsh rater) to a 3.5 star book. And I never once rolled me eyes, yay!!

Erin Troyer Kieffer | 16 comments Finished re-reading Stephen Kings The Green Mile and Thinner. I absolutely loved The Green Mile. Bit of a tear jerker. The characters in the mile are very vivid to me. Thinner isn't one of my favorite King books. Its one of the books he published as Richard Bachman and I don't tend to favor them as much although I do love the ending.

Erin Troyer Kieffer | 16 comments Re-read Bag of Bones, Needful Things, The Sun Dog, Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption and The Body. All by Stephen King. All great stories. I set out to re-read all of Stephen Kings books that take place in Castle Rock before the new show "Castle Rock" starts on Hulu (in 6 days!) and I don't know why I haven't done this sooner. I am enjoying them so much I think I am just going to go ahead and re-read the rest of his books too. My recommendation... read them all. Pick up Carrie first and read every book he has written in order.
