Anne Vivliohomme (annevivliohomme) description
This is the shelf I chose! There are only eleven books on these shelves that I still have to read and I will probably read a couple of books before starting, but I think it's nice to be ambitious!

Anne Vivliohomme (annevivliohomme) Oh, I think something went wrong with the image :(

Wonkybadonk | 33 comments I'm back and I've finished I, Robot!

I, Robot by Isaac Asimov

This book describes a future that's actually happening now, it's extremely relevant to technology today and a great thought provoking read!

Little Bee (littlebeesreads) | 199 comments Sam- I really like my owlcrate. January's box was so fantastic! I also love that the covers are different, and for the next 6 months the books are signed by the author (in the past they have been signature plates you can put in the book. I will upload a pic on here tonight of this past month's :)

Little Bee (littlebeesreads) | 199 comments I finished The Hearts We Sold by Emily Lloyd-Jones yesterday.

This story was nice in the sense that it was an easy read, but never got boring. It was original, had an inkling romance, but also fantasy and action. It is about a girl who is from an abusive, home whose parents are alcoholics. She gets a scholarship to a boarding school but the money has run out and she has to come up with the money for it.

In this story, Demons have made themselves known. They trade wishes for limbs. She stumbled upon one demon, but didnt want anything. Demons cant be seen unless you are desperate and are look for a bargain. When the scholarship ran out and she went home to see if her parents could pay, after the fight that ensued, she ran to look for the demon she had seen and made a deal with him. She asked for money, she got a lot of money, amount unknown. This demon did not trade in limbs, he wanted hearts. So he takes her heart, gives her a magic knitted heart that if it unravels she will die. She is basically in stasis, and it is a 2 year contract. He does this because there are voids popping up with monsters trying to get out and destroy the world. You cannot be living and enter the void. So this demon builds troops around the world to destroy these voids.

That is all I am going to tell you, there is a lot of story, and a lot of nail biting, some crying, and overall I enjoyed this story. I recommend it

Anne Vivliohomme (annevivliohomme) Whoops! I just realised that The Power (which is my first book for the Rainbow Challenge) is on the shelf that I chose for this challenge! I finished it, so that's one book less from my shelf!

1984 by George Orwell

Much better and more thought provoking now that I'm not thirteen! I understand a lot of the concepts and the mind bendiness of it.

Anne Vivliohomme (annevivliohomme) @Wonkybadonk

Ah yes 1984! This book gave me the creeps! (in a good way)

Little Bee (littlebeesreads) | 199 comments I finished Better When He's Bad (Welcome to the Point, #1) by Jay Crownover by Jay Crownover last week. I love Jay Crownover. My favorite series of hers is The Marked Men series.

Better When He's Bad is the first in The Point series. It follows Bax and Dovie. Each chapter switches to either one of their pov's. I felt this book was much darker than The Marked Men series, which some books had some dark stuff in it. Bax is a very bad guy, and it is very obvious. There were times I felt uncomfortable, because I wasn't sure where it was going with exactly how rough Bax could be, especially with how rough he tried to portray to Dovie he was. Dovie saw the good in him, and he begins seeing it also and as a reader, I start to like him more. He is still a bad guy in the end, but definitely a good bad guy. If that makes sense.

message 66: by Anne (new)

Anne Vivliohomme (annevivliohomme) "a good bad guy" hahaha
but I know what you mean though😉

Wonkybadonk | 33 comments I've finished The River of Dancing Gods!
The River of Dancing Gods (Dancing Gods #1) by Jack L. Chalker

This book has a lot of heart but is missing something I can't really place, like an oomph somewhere. Some of the character interactions definitely made me laugh though!

Little Bee (littlebeesreads) | 199 comments I finished reading The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue . It is about a young lord who sets off for his grand tour before being expected to go back to his family's estate and take up the family business. Him, his friend Percy (who is colored) and his sister Felicity all set off one morning. Monty expects that it will be the year of his lifetime because he gets to spend his time with Percy, whom he secretly loves. This all takes place around the 1700s. So this is forbidden. The father, who is tired of Monty's whoring with other boys and with girls, and tired of Monty's binge drinking and gambling, decides to send a tutor along with them so that they can only do certain activities and not allowed to drink, gamble, or whore around. The goal is to drop Felicity off at finishing school. But, as you may know, everything hits the fan one night when Percy and Monty had a fight and Monty stole something from the duke/right hand of the king.

This leads them on to a wild ride from being robbed by highwaymen, captured by pirates, nearly sunk on an island near Venice. It was overall an okay book. I will probably give it 4 stars, but more closely it is 3.5. I will read the next book, which is about Felicity and her desire to become a surgeon, which is unheard of because she is a female.

Wonkybadonk | 33 comments I've finished Running with the Demon:
Running with the Demon (Word & Void, #1) by Terry Brooks

This is like a Robert Jordan book, 75% detailed character developing buildup and the last 25% where shit hits the fan non-stop. Great read!

Catherine Hirsch | 36 comments I finished God Help The Child
I recommend it for a quick, easy read - anybody with even a shred of self awareness can appreciate it - youngsters might not.

message 84: by Anne (new)

Anne Vivliohomme (annevivliohomme) This challenge is really complicatedd for me because I keep changing the location of my books! So now I have put books that I have already read on this shelf...does that mean I finished? ;)
