Challenges: Year Long Main 2021
>
When the Stars Come Out to Play with Lilisa in 2018
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...Reporting
Each time you complete a book, you must report it in an individual message in your personal tracking thread. Do not combine books in a message. Each book gets it own. Report each book as follows:
1. Challenge Progress: Identify where you are in the challenge – Badge 1, book 1 (2, 3, 4, etc.)
2. Task – List Zodiac Sign and Category
3. Link to book read. If the cover is part of the task, link the cover of the edition you read as well.
4. If not obvious, state how the book fits the criteria.
5. Specifications required in the task. Some tasks require that you report specific thing. IE – a) The “twins” task is to read a book that has two different titles. You are required to link the alternative title. b) If a task requires that you read a book from a Listopia, you need to identify which page number it was on so that it can be verified.
Sample: Say I’ve read 5 books in the Badge 1 section:
Badge 1, Book 5
Task – Aries, Month
Link – The Violets of March
March in the title.
Requesting a badge:
When you finish a badge requirement, you will need to post in the Year Long Reporting Thread as follows:
Badge Requesting (One, Two, Three or Four)
1. Aries, Category, Title
2. Taurus, Category, Title
3.
4…… continuing to 12
Sample:
Badge One completed
1. Aries, Month - March, The Violets of March
2. Taurus, Actor - Audrey Hepburn, War and Peace
3.
4….. continuing to 12.
Keep your reporting in your personal thread and in the general report thread neat and concise with no extraneous wordage. This makes it easier to verify.

Option 2: If the book is adapted, you may read another book written by the same author. This applies only to the adaptation.

I just saw your challenge title. Makes me laugh. ;o)I own Timeline and actually started it last year, but put it down (my book mark is still in it). It did not occure to me to add it under the Time Travel task.
:-) It's listed as science fiction and time travel as well. I think I'll run over to the other thread to get a ruling from Janice to be on the safe side. It's been a while since I read a Michael Crichton. The one I enjoyed immensely years ago is Rising Sun. I still remember it as a wow book.
And Janice gave the thumbs up for time travel so that's it unless I get distracted with another book...The Time Traveler's Wife is my favorite time travel book - I see you have it on your list - yay!

Catching up on your reporting? Three 5 stars out of 5 books is great! I'm glad you're finding stellar reads.
Lilisa wrote: "Autumn 2 stars"Was it the writing or the story? I saw the second book in this series recently posted by someone. I have this one on my TBR list and am curious.

I couldn't get into it - the writing didn't work for me. I liked the storyline of Daniel who is 101 and Elizabeth as a young woman reflecting back on her growing years when Daniel was there for her and her mother not. Theirs is a special relationship. But I didn't feel the characters came alive - her writing didn't speak to me. Lots of folks have rated it much higher than I did. It seems like I'm in the minority on this one.

Task - read a book written by a Native American author or about Native American culture (the book is also about Native American culture, including one of the main characters - Rene Sel, marrying a Mi'kmaw woman. The story is based on the lives of two men (Rene Sel is one) and their descendants through the ages from 1693 to 2013) living as Native Americans and colonists and the resulting tension and blending of cultures.

There are 12 signs of the zodiac and seven categories from which there will be tasks assigned. Those categories are:
Zodiac Category Spreadsheet
Month – Each astrological sign starts in one month and ends in the next. For this challenge, we will focus on the first month for each sign.
Symbol – Each astrological sign is recognized by a symbol.
Element – Each astrological sign is represented by an element. Although there are only 4 elements, there will be individual tasks specific to each sign. You are not allowed to interchange them. For example, you may not use the fire task for Aries and count it as the fire task for Sagittarius. You’ll get burned.
North American Zodiac Signs - The website shows different signs depending on which hemisphere you were born. I’ve chosen to use the northern hemisphere just to keep it simple. I’ve slotted them into their equivalent zodiac sign.
Stone – According to the Native American system, there are stones associated with each sign.
Superhero! – I’ll bet you didn’t know that each sign has a superhero! Well, they don’t. Because several people asked for a year long challenge with superheroes, I arbitrarily assigned a superhero to each sign according to an attribute that made me think they might be a good fit. That took superhuman effort, as did coming up with the tasks for them.
Actors – I waded through long lists and selected one actor with birthdays during each sign.

The Challenge
The challenge is to read 12 books throughout the year. You must select and read one book from each zodiac sign to complete the challenge. You may select from any of the seven categories, as long as you remember that you need to have each zodiac sign represented. If you wish, you may restrict yourself to one category. For example, you may choose to read all twelve tasks assigned to the superheroes.
Badges
There is a total of 84 tasks listed, so 84 books.
Badge One – Challenge Badge = 12 books completed. This is the only level you need to complete the challenge. Any additional reading is optional.
Badge Two – First Additional Badge = will be awarded when you read an additional 2 rounds of the zodiac signs (24 additional books). The same rules apply – each round includes one book from each zodiac sign. When you have completed this badge, you will have read a total of 36 books.
Badge Three – Second Additional Badge – will be awarded when you read 2 more rounds of the zodiac signs (24 additional books). The same rules apply – each round includes one book from each zodiac sign. When you have completed this badge, you will have read a total of 60 books.
Badge Four – will be awarded when the remaining 2 rounds have been read. All 84 tasks have been read.

General Rules: (please read carefully as there are some changes)
1. You must read 12 different books, one from each zodiac sign. Each book is exclusive to one task. You may not repeat tasks. The same rule applies to optional rounds.
2. You may not combine books with the Monthly Challenge.
3. The challenge is from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018. You must start and complete your books within the year AND within the time that you start the challenge. If you are late starting the challenge, you may not count books prior to your start date. For example, if you start May 1st, you may only count books read between May 1 – Dec 31.
4. Books must be at least 175 pages long. They may be any format (audiobook, ebook, hardcover/paperback). In the case of ebooks & audiobooks, use the hardcover edition to determine page length.. If there is no hardcover edition, use the paperback edition. From the book page, select “all editions”, then select “hardcover”. If no hardcover editions, select “paperback”. If more than one edition, sort by “num ratings” and go with the first listing. If you are still unable to identify, ask for a ruling.
5. Books may be any genre unless specified in a task. In the case of graphic novels or books consisting of a lot of pictures, the text must be equivalent to that of a 175-page book.
6. If a task refers to the title, the subtitle or series title doesn’t count unless specified in a task.
7. If a task refers to the cover, it will be based on the cover of the issue you read.
8. You will need to start your own reporting thread in this folder to track your progress. There will be a thread set up to report your success in completing the challenge and to request your badge.
Clarifications:
1. Order of Books read: There is no requirement regarding the order the books are read. Any book read between your starting date and Dec 31 is fair game. For example, if you read two books for Aries but haven't finished the round, you may "save" the second book for the next round.
2. Compound words/Imbedded words/Plurals: When a task requires a specific word in the title, it must match the required word as close as possible unless specifically stated in the individual task. It may not be included as a compound word or imbedded in another word. In the situation of plurals, you may add an "s" or "es", but you may not change the word to a plural form if it's different from the required word. Eg - Mice cannot be used for Mouse.
