C I think she did. She could've prevented death and a whole lot of other trouble yet she decided not to.

Nikoleta Alexiadou yes she did ! like girl knew everything but did not say a thing. Like she should have gotten in some kind of trouble!

Robin yes! i think if she had spoken up about everything sooner it would have avoided most of this but then again there wouldn't have been a story...

quq Yeah but she did confess and then she helped them at the end. . . so. . . idk. She should have told the truth though.

Ella Definitely, it took her way too long to speak up and she could have prevented so many bad things from happening, but she didn't. In real life I think the police would probably talk to her a lot more about it and she would have faced more consequences.

Me too! I feel they would have asked her a lot of questions In real life because she was Simons one friend.

✌︎ lua ☺︎ I think that the courts would at least charge her with aiding and abetting. Like assisted suicide if it's illegal in that state lol. Otherwise, she's a minor who was threatened to stay quiet or be falsely accused. I can sympathize that her hands were tied to a certain extent without evidence to prove that she didn't murder Simon.

Summer Well the book never said exactly what she was charged with, just that she was working on a plea bargain. I assume she'll see some jail time for her behavior.

Francesca Adams Omg yes I get she was probably deeply depressed and scared but still;I just assumed she would do so jail time 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yesssssssss I think she got off entirely too easy. The entire time everyone was suffering she knew the truth. I completely understand it must have been hard on her when Simon was planning this but I still don't think she should have gotten a pass on it all. However, I think at the end we almost giver her a pass because it was clear that she wan't enough of a friend for Simon in his eyes.

Mandy Yes, like there wasn’t even like any consequences for her and yet she caused a lot trouble for the 4 main characters.

Whitechoc10001 yeh she probably did. she new the entire scheme but didn't speak up. she was happy to frame other people for simons death. she didn't help simon even though she knew he was suicidal

Gemma I feel like we don't know enough about Janae to make all these assumptions, hence the comment section. Janae may as well have her reasons for everything she does. If herself and Simon were tight, and she tried to stop him, this would eventually anger Simon into posting her secrets. We also don't know what happened to her too much after the book ends. Jail time would be a necessity, if not, public service. We have to admit, Janae isn't that much of a big character and depending on the situations she's in, we have no reasoning to be a judge. I'm currently reading this book for my English class, and I'm writing a diary entry on Janae. Trying to get into this character has actually enlightened a lot of things about her. She's really not so bad. Remember, she's been depressed for a while and was probably depressed with Simon, feeling helpless because of his behavior. Perhaps we should see what she's got on her mind before we judge her.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* I think mixed with teenage insecurities, hormones, fear and influence of the killer, and being loyal to Simon but being an outcast to others made her hesitate too long. I think she'll live with the guilt forever but sympathize.

Joshua Gibson I think that Janae didn't get off way too easily as punishments are for people who do bad things for a bad cause, but she was helping Simon even if the ethics of it all were in flaw. Good intentions, but bad ethical perspective.

Annie Rose considering the circumstances i think janae wouldn't get off scot-free. she probably would of made a plea deal with the police, so i assume she did get punished in some way. but i do think she should have spoken up earlier, however she was depressed and most likely incredibly pressured into the entire plan.

AnotherBooking_ Janae was a, to put simply, a difficult character. She was confronted with a difficult situation, blackmailed and is now forced to forever live with that guilt. I can't decide whether she deserves my sympathy or my anger. She may have experienced a series of traumatizing events but she left the Bayview 4 with punishments that they didn't deserve.
But she did play a pivotal role in the story, being the character that a) revealed what had to be revealed and b) being one of Simon's strongest connections.
Without her (agreeing with other comments) several events wouldn't be as significant.

So yeah. Sorry for wasting 1 min of your day, I just had to get that off my chest. Thanks for reading anyways :]

Brooke Yes! I do too! She was responsible for having exposed a lot about the Bayview 4 that it wasn't her place to do that! Especially with Cooper! I do have a somewhat soft spot for Janae and her odd peculiar self, but I do think she shouldn't have gotten off as lightly as she did

Yeah, sorry for the late reply, my account didn't notify me. But, yeah, probably a better description of our shared feelings towards Janae, "somewhat soft spot for Janae and her odd peculiar self."
Agreed.

Isabella Jasso I do believe that she got away too easily, even though she ended up confessing she kept the secret for so long as she saw how everyone was suffering because of it.

Brooke I believe she should have maybe gotten a harsher punishment, especially since she could have prevented what had happened to the Bayview 4, and more importantly what Cooper had to go through, although it did she gave information to the police, helping them prosecute Jake and therefore I don't believe she was a true accessory to the crime, and didn't participate enough to be sent to jail. However, she should have gotten another punishment like a fine or something for hiding evidence and not doing anything about it.
