Marlene | 307 comments I've read many historical Christian romance/fiction authors. Tracie Peterson is one author I haven't read much of, but it's on my list to try more of her books. I've given two of her books 4 stars.

My Valentine is one of them. I've found some of her books on Amazon for free , so you might want to keep your eyes open. Also, she's been around for quite a while, so you might be able to find quite a few titles . :-)

Gretchen | 41 comments I have a question for everyone.

There is a debate in the romance genre, the subgenre regency romance they are saying that Georgette Heyer has influenced it too much and the wrong kind of influence it is not authentic and too childish and she portrays the ton all wrong and that is a bad influence on writers and readers.
What do you think?

message 254: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Since none of us was alive during the Regency, who can say what is authentic and what is not? I've studied the period pretty extensively and find her work quite true to the class she's writing about, at least when it comes to pursuits and attitudes. What are the complainers wanting? More sex? More dirt and smells? More violence and suffering? More realism in general? Her works are true to human nature but basically fantasies, and I am content that they should be so. I'm happy to read Heyer's Regency romances and don't particularly enjoy reading non-Heyer Regency books.

I've seen little snippets of that here and there. I really cannot give an informed opinion. But I do enjoy Heyer's Regencies as well as other Regencies that don't feel "wrong." I have read a couple of Regency romances where the author admits that the language is not completely period, and that they've chosen to do that for the convenience of their readers. And since they acknowledge that openly, I don't feel bad about reading their books. (Erin Knightley)

For me, the bottom line is, if I see something that is most definitely WRONG, it kicks me out of the story. And avoiding that is what I think should be the aim of the Regency author, and I think that's more important than trying to debate whether Heyer was spot on. If other authors want to do something differently, that's fine! They should do their homework just as Heyer did hers. :-)

I agree let the authors be open about it if they do something different . Yeah Ms. Heyer really did her research. But in the end you're right it is up to the reader.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments Freebie: One Haunted Evening

28 Reviews: 64% 5-stars & 28% 4-stars

This is book 1: Three authors telling the same story through three perspectives. A gentleman hosts a Samhain Masquerade Party for his 5-friends at a castle he inherited in the lake district. A haunted castle.

I had to read the reviews to determine the rating. One review said it was not sexual at all nor was it occult, but it did have a ghost. So I guess we will just say it is paranormal. Also, this book only featured 3 of the stories and it was mentioned in a review that there was a book to follow with the story of the other gentlemen.

I finally found the next book: One More Haunted Evening at $3.99.

16 reviews: 69% 5-stars & 25% 4-stars
This one was rated as steamy. I'll wait and see if this price goes down.

Book 2 in a series of 9 books: This sounded like fun. I assumed it was MA = Mature Audience rating. With the word naked in the title, passionate in the blurb and sex scenes mentioned in a review. Yep, that says mature audience to me.

Kirk, I've only read books by two of the authors. They weren't amazing, but they were still good. These are novella-length so not too big of a commitment.
