I'm confused. Which task are you asking about? I don't think I wrote any that requires the zodiac signs to be in the title.

As long as the face is in profile, it can be attached to a whole body.

Sorry that I missed your question about the Dutch author. I'd say he's Dutch enough. :)

No worries. I was still half asleep when I read your question and couldn't quit wrap my head around it. Now that I've had a cup of coffee, I'm more alert.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Janice - for the task setting in New Zealand (Libra-Raven), I have a book that takes place on Auckland Island, which New Zealand claims. Is this book acceptable to this task or does it need to take place on the two main islands? Island of the Lost: Shipwrecked at the Edge of the World

Jannene | 3124 comments This may seem like an obvious question but what if a book goes through many months? I was going to pick Deviant Ways which starts July 4th but goes through Thanksgiving. Now, I was going to pick November. :o) Am I to count the pages after I finish the book?

At least half of the book needs to be set in November.

I'm not sure what you mean about counting the pages after you finish. You're counting the pages to determine how much is set in November? If this was a book I was gophering for my personal challenge, I'd probably give it a pass and slot something else in there that would be more obvious.

message 167: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments I think it will work. It sounds like the main character drives a truck too, so you're covered both ways.

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments Please note that if you copied and pasted the challenge instructions into your personal thread, you may not have the right links.

It's come to my attention that the link to the list "Best Western Books" for the Bull task in Taurus did not copy correctly. I've checked a few threads, and what ended up being copied over to personal threads was "Best Books Ever". I suspect the link was truncated during the copying.

You may want to check other links as well.

Laura (lauradragonchild) For black cover will this one work?
Gardens of the Moon (The Malazan Book of the Fallen, #1) by Steven Erikson

If not I could I go with this?
Wizard's First Rule (Sword of Truth, #1) by Terry Goodkind

or perhaps
An Echo in the Bone (Outlander, #7) by Diana Gabaldon

And for Cancer – Rose Quartz
- Read a book with a rose(s) on the cover, or the cover is 75% pink in colour.
would this be ok? Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell

Also for Scorpio – Copper
- Copper is a metal, not a stone. Read a book with a metal weapon or tool on the cover.

Would this go? Songs of the Earth (The Wild Hunt, #1) by Elspeth Cooper or should it be a cover where there is only a weapon without the man holding it?

Sorry to trouble but it's my first challenge like this and I'm not quite sure if I'm doing it right.

message 170: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments Laura, they will all work. Just remember that when you are doing a task that species something with a cover, it must be the edition you read.

message 171: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) Gardens of the Moon, Cloud Atlas and Songs of the Earth are the exact editions I have on my shelves. Especially for Cloud Atlas, I think my book is a less published edition cause I had to look through the GR lost for a while to find it. So I can go with those even if Gardens of the Moon has the background black and Songs of the Earth has a guy holding the weapon?

Saar The Book owl | 2653 comments I've still got a question. I put it a few pages back, but can't find it. I read most of my books in English, but if I read a book in Dutch, do I need to put the English title between brackets, so it can be verified?

I noticed this, Janice. I thought the problem was perhaps because I accidentally didn't copy the full link - ? but not sure about that.

I had to correct a couple of other links with same issue. Again, I think I maybe I didn't cut and paste full link first time. Hopefully, got that fixed.

message 175: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I know links don't always copy and paste well. So I copied the bulk of the text but opened the individual links Janice provided us with and copied the URL directly from the page and pasted it in my thread. I've only done that for the lists that were recommended to use for certain tasks but not the actors. I've not bothered with those links now that I've gone through and picked out which films (and therefore books) that interest me.

Night at the Museum: The Junior Novelization ,adapted from film which was adapted from a children's book The Night at the Museum

or Sex And The City: The Movie Movie Companion , a romantic comedy film, .and a sequel to the HBO comedy series of the same name, itself based on the book Sex and the City by Candace Bushnell Two separate books. I'd rather read the original by Bushnell.

Just one word is all that's required. You can have a book with Japanese or Spider in it. Doesn't need to be both. There is no "sally lightfoot crab" listed in the options. Only the words specified in the task will be accepted.

Here's the task again for your convenience - These are the names of common crab varieties: Coconut, Hermit, Horseshoe, King, Japanese Spider, Dungeness, Rock, Snow, Blue, or Fiddler Crab. Read a book with any of those words (other than “crab”) in the title. I’ll get crabby if you try to sneak “Crab” in.

I did a ruling on that question, or a similar one. If a specific word is required in the title, and you are reading an edition in another language, you will need to translate the title in your report. That falls under the "explain anything that's not obvious" guideline.

If you are reading a book in Dutch and the title isn't part of the task, you don't need to translate it - but it would be nice. We're a curious bunch.

Bring me coffee, and I can answer these. Why did I not sit down with a cup of coffee this morning instead of a glass of water? Seriously.

The movie is to be an adaption of a book, not the other way around where the book is written as a result of the movie. If you are not reading the book from which the movie was adapted, then the title of the book you read must match the movie title exactly.

So no, to both your questions. However, you did mention Sex and the City. That is the adapted book, and an exact title, so you don't need the movie companion.

See, I need coffee.

No, the pressure!

I have to admit that I hardly ever read books by Dutch authors.

The Miniaturist and Girl with a Pearl Earring are both set in the Netherlands. (not written by Dutch authors though)

I read The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen, 83¼ Years Old and the sequel this year and thought it was fantastic.

I have no idea how many Dutch books get translated to other languages. One of the GR lists is probably more helpful than me ;-)

Laura (lauradragonchild) Please don't get very angry Janice!!! I have quite the list of questions this time.

If Sean Penn acted in the movie The Warriors can I read the book Into the Wild The series title is The Warriors.
or Rise of the Fallen with series title All The King's Men for the movie with the same name?

I would also have the same question for Glenn Close who acted in Warcraft. Can I read Day of the Dragon for which the Series name is WarCraft?

And does Sunshine go for Ralph Fiennes?

For Aquarius – Turquoise Read a book where the main theme is magic. Will any of these 2 do?
Practical Magic
A Darker Shade of Magic

For profile on cover can I go with this?
Days of Magic, Nights of War (Abarat, #2) by Clive Barker

And for Taurus – Jasper Read a book where illness (mental, emotional or physical) is a major theme would Keeping Faith be ok?

For Water on the cover will this do? The Last Light of the Sun by Guy Gavriel Kay .

For the fire on the cover will this be ok? Renegade's Magic (Soldier Son, #3) by Robin Hobb
