Katrisa | 4498 comments So, I am reading War and Peace and my copy is in two separate books (a vol. 1 and a vol. 2). Can I use volume one as a book, or do I have to wait until I finish both volumes?

That's a tough one, Katrisa. W & P in its entirety is over 1300 pages and generally published in one volume. However, I read up on it in Wikipedia, and the first half is the fictional story, whereas the second half consists of essays and commentary. I will allow you to count Volume 1 as one book since that is the edition you are reading.

Carla | 244 comments Hi Janice, I'm currently reading this and am wondering if it works for a cover that is mostly white?
The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton

Jenn | 3033 comments Hey Janice, no rush, I know you're on holidays . . . just wondering if
The City & the City The City & the City by China Miéville would work for Libra - Element - Clouds on the cover, or if I will have to use it for Scorpio - Superheroes - Stand alone Sci-fi?

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments I'm sitting in a railway station, lirterally! My train is delayed 6 hours. But it's the first time I've had reliable internet access.

I'm not going to be able to track anyone's progress on the zodiac challenge because I didn't bring my spreadsheet. I will catch up when I get home. Besides this one finger typing is tedious. (On iPad.).

Can one of the mods check this on tin eye for me, please? It looks like it may fall short of the 75% requirement. Thanks.

I can't remember whether or not I already ruled on a similar question. Is this for one of the actor tasks? I think you would need to go for a movie that has already been released.

Yes, for the Sean Penn task. Thanks, Janice. I'll pick another book.

message 1164: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4498 comments I’m glad you asked this question Amanda! That was my book for the Sean Penn task and I thought the movie was supposed to come out in November. So I have to pick a new book too 😕

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments You answered the movie question for me, Janice. I already read the book, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that the movie releases in November or before the end of the year. I have another picked out as my last book to read, if I make it that far.

Yes, it will fit that task.

What did you think of the book? That was my introduction to Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. I gave it 5 stars.

Laura - none of the questions in your spoiler were answered. If I have learned anything about the authors, is that you do not get any real answers.

Carla | 244 comments Hi Janice,

I have a question about the Virgo challenge where the protagonist must be a maiden (under 20). Is it necessary for her to be under 20 for the entire story? I finished Random Passage
The narrator remains unmarried but I believe by the end of her journal she is in her 20s, as she is recounting her life over several years. If yes no worries, plenty of books to keep me going.
Thanks

If she's in her under 20 for most of the book, I would count it.

message 1182: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments It could fit Canada. If that is the edition you read, it would fit profile on the cover. What years does it span? Will it fit one of the time settings?

message 1183: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments There's also water on the cover, if that was the edition you read.

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments Jenn wrote: "Oh my, you caught her in a good mood . . . anyone else have something dodgy to sneak by? lol"

My brother and I had pretty strict rules imposed on us when we were kids. There was a gap of 7 years and my little sister was born. She got away with all sorts of things my brother and I didn't. When I asked my mother why, she said that they were tired out by us so when the baby came along, they didn't have the energy to apply the rules.

It's almost the end of the challenge, and I've been focusing so much on the new challenge, that my energy is a bit low.

But don't think that changes things much. See what the wild rose looks like, and compare it to the flower under the title.

Read a book where the majority of it is set in Canada, or written by a Canadian author.

GR Author pages say that both the authors live in Canada.
