Pat Wagar | 3 comments I believe the book was written in the 60s and the premise is that a group of scientists have been working to develop time travel. They view the future first and it shows the lab destroyed and human bones strewn about.

A man is sent forward to the time they have viewed and he sends a skull back to the lab in the time machine. The skull turns out to be his girlfriend's, who also works in the lab. He is disoriented so wanders away and is captured by mutants. It turns out that there was a nuclear war, shortly after his time and he spends the rest of the novel trying to get back to the lab and return to the past to prevent the war.

Part of a series?
Anything about the cover?

Pat Wagar | 3 comments I read this in the later 60s or early 70s and it's a stand alone. I think the cover had an image of the time machine, with a skull in it and it was in the cave that the lab was in. Could be wrong on that, though.

I believe the book was written in the 60s, a cold war warning.

Pat, I added some details to the topic header, so your book might be recognized from that description alone. Many members only read the headers.
