Hey, everyone. Melanie just added me to this team last minute. (So, don't kick me out; I'm not an imposter. :P) This is my first time doing this challenge, and I'm curious whose all done it before and how we plan together which books to read. Do any of you already have certain books in mind for the challenge so we can start narrowing that down?
I have a book that I'm already reading that will work for task #23 Nativity Elements. Is everyone okay with me taking that one for this round?
Sounds great,Karis. Nice start to the challenge.Anyone else have an idea of which task they will choose to do?
I will take this one for this round.#28. Christmas Sweets
*Read a book that has a CHRISTMAS COOKIE, CANDY CANE, GINGERBREAD, or APPLE PIE on the cover or found in its text.
BONUS POINT: if the author's first or last name starts with one of these letters: C, A, N, D, Y
Deanne wrote: "Hi Karis.welcome. Great to have you in our group."Thanks. I am too.
Will you be able to get the bonus point for the one you're reading for #28, Deanne?
Hey, I actually just realized that the book I just read will count for this one.#27. Blue Christmas
*Read a book using one of the following options:
- Cover has majority color of BLUE.
- BLUE is on the cover or in the text in word form.
The book I'm thinking of is Dissemble. The cover hasn't been revealed yet; I'm reading an pre-release copy. But the cover fits the category and within the text is the word "blue." (p. 12, and a couple of other places).
I'm going to review that one. And if an extra book needs to be read than I will also review the book I'm currently reading that fits the task #28.
Also, Deanne, do you know any of the other members of this team? I would love to get sorted out for sure which books everyone was reading for this first round now that it's officially started.
As some of you may have noticed, we have review discussion threads for each of our teams, found
here
. When we have finished reading and reviewing a task, we will post our task submissions in the review thread specific to the team we are on. These posts will be similar to previous challenges, and will look like this:ROUND # : TEAM NAME
TASK NUMBER & TITLE
BOOK COVER
*Read by: NAME
*Page Count:
*Date Finished:
*How it works:
*How it works for the BONUS POINT [if a bonus point is attached to the task]:
*Link to review:
When there is a word in the text task requirement, in the "How it works" section of this post, be sure to give a quote from the book with the keyword in it, and include the page number.
For example, my post in my team review thread for Round One, which I finished this morning, looks like this:
ROUND ONE: TEAM CRANBERRIES
#2. Thanks-giving (November 23)
*Read by: MONIQUE
*Page Count: 208
*Date Finished: November 15, 2017
*How it works: “GRATEFUL” is in the text. "As we become increasingly grateful, God exchanges our worries and sorrow for his peace, joy, and abundant life" (p. 87).
*Link to review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I spoke with Melanie (CFB and challenge moderator) about this, and she gave her approval. :)
Be sure to post your task submission within the dates of the round you wish it to count for. Also, keep in mind that the review threads are only for our task submissions. All other discussions will be in the chat threads.
Happy reading everyone! Round One has officially begun! :)
Thanks, Monique! I just realized this earlier today and am planning on posting as you modeled on the review thread as soon as I type a review for the book I just finished!
#27. Blue Christmas
*Read a book using one of the following options:
- Cover has majority color of BLUE.
- BLUE is on the cover or in the text in word form.
Read by: Jamie
Page Count: 343
Date Finished:11/15/17
Yall I was sent this book from the publisher as a ARC. i was so ecstatic. I just finished. You have to read it!
This works for #27 Blue christmas... blue cover.
#27 complete!
Jamie wrote: "

I went ahead and posted for you Jamie on your team's review page, found here. Well done! :)
I'd love to help anyone everyone get used to this challenge these first few weeks. :)
Hey, Deanne. I was checking out your profile to see what book you had in mind to read for #28 Christmas Sweets and saw that you were reading Christmas at the Candied Apple Cafe. That one works perfectly for number #28, but it doesn't give us the bonus point that it would if one of the author names began with C, A, N, D, or Y. So, I was wondering if you would count it for #14? That way we would be able to do #28 and try to get the bonus point, and you would get the bonus point for #14 category. #14. It’s Beginning to Smell a Lot Like Christmas
*Read a book that has PINE, CINNAMON, or PEPPERMINT in its title or in its text.
BONUS POINT: if the book has stripes somewhere on the cover.
Also, since Jamie did task #27, I'm going to count Dissemble as #5. I need to type up my review and then I'll post all the info in the review thread. #5. Winter Beverages
*Read a book using one of the following options:
- HOT COCOA/CHOCOLATE, HOT COFFEE, HOT TEA, or HOT CIDER is in the text.
- A MUG/CUP used for hot beverages is on the cover.
Is that okay with everyone? If I needed to I could count it for #8.
#8. Winter Garments
*Read a book with someone wearing a JACKET/PARKA, SWEATER, SCARF, WINTER HAT, or GLOVES/MITTENS on its cover or in its text.
Hi, I was thinking about doing task #1#1: Fall Colors: Red/Orange/Yellow/Brown
*Read a book using one of the following options:
- Cover has majority color of RED, ORANGE, YELLOW, and/or BROWN.
- One of the above colors is on the cover in word form (author name, title, etc.).
BONUS POINT: if the book contains the word "LEAF" in its text.
I was thinking about reading The Beautiful Pretender by Melanie Dickerson for this one. It has red, brown, what I think is orange on the cover. The author's name I think is also in yellow. It just wouldn't get the bonus point because there is no "leaf" in the text. =(
Is everyone okay with me doing this one for the challenge?

Hey, Grace! I love the cover of that book; the back blurb is really intriguing. I know nobody else has mentioned wanting to do task #1, so you'd be good that way.
But as you said you wouldn't be able to get the bonus point. It might be able to fit one of the other challenges to leave #1 open for the bonus point. Would you say that it had a majority color of red? If it did, then it could work for #24 or #26.
And I'm sure that it has a horse in its text so you could count it as task #29.
#29. Winter Carriage Ride
*Read a book that has a HORSE or CARRIAGE/SLEIGH on its cover or in its text.
I'm just trying to see if we can't get as many of those bonus points as possible!
Karis wrote: "Hey, Deanne. I was checking out your profile to see what book you had in mind to read for #28 Christmas Sweets and saw that you were reading Christmas at the Candied Apple Cafe. I don't know if PINE, CINNAMON, or PEPPERMINT is in the inside text. I'll have to read it to find out!
I do word searches for specific words on my Kindle books all the time, Deane? And you would think the book would mention one of those because of its settings. And, of course, you can count it for the other task if you have to.

Yeah, I agree with getting as many as the bonus points as we can. =)
I will go ahead and start reading The Beautiful Pretender and count it for TASK #26
So does anyone have a book they can use for the bonus point? It needs to have a BASKET or CORNUCOPIA on its cover or in its text.I have a book (The Hunger Games) that I can reread that has cornucopia in its text. However the book is not Christian. Does anyone know if we are supposed to only read Christian books for it to count for the challenge or not?
Books read for this challenge do not have to be Christian books, however it would be best to read books that are known to be clean/moral. The Hunger Games, from what I can remember, would work great for this challenge! :)
I know a couple of books I own that would fit for the bonus book (because they have the word "basket" in their text), but I'm not currently reading them. If you have been wanting to re-read the Hunger Games, and I'd go for it and take that one. Is everyone else fine with that? Monique, is the bonus book an extra book that the team reads or is it supposed to also fit one of the categories and be one of the five books we read?
Also, I'm currently reading a book that will count for #23, if the round comes close to ending, and we still need a fifth book.
#23. Nativity Elements
*Read a book using one of the following options:
- Characters: MARY, JOSEPH, JESUS, or ANGEL can be found in the text.
- Animals: A DONKEY, LAMB, COW/OX, and/or CAMEL can be found on the cover or in the text.
Hi everyone. I’m sorry. I just realized that we’ve started. I’ve been recovering from a very difficult surgery

Thanks Monique! The Hunger Games is pretty clean. It does have some fighting in it, but it is not very graphic with it in my mind. If everyone is okay with it, I would love to read The Hunger Games for the bonus point!
Tiffany wrote: "Hi everyone. I’m sorry. I just realized that we’ve started. I’ve been recovering from a very difficult surgery"Hey, Tiffany! I hope you are recovering well from your surgery. Will be praying for you. =)
And don't worry about it, we still have lot's of time left for the reading on this round. =) Is there a book you would like to read?
Karis - To answer your question, each round 6 books need to be read to have a chance at the max available points, including a different book for each of the five required primary tasks, and for the bonus point task.Tiffany - I pray that you recover fully from you surgery as soon as possible and that God eases any pain you may be experiencing and comforts you in your recovery process. *hugs*
Thanks for explaining, Monique. And, yay, Grace, for reading to get the bonus point. :)And, Tiffany, don't feel badly for not realizing that the challenge had started. I'll be praying for your recovery.
Thank you so much, Monique and Karis. I honestly wasn’t expecting the recovery to be this bad but there were a lot of complications. I’ve only read 4 books so far, this month and that’s totally not like me.
1: Fall Colors: Red/Orange/Yellow/Brown*Read a book using one of the following options:
- Cover has majority color of RED, ORANGE, YELLOW, and/or BROWN.
- One of the above colors is on the cover in word form (author name, title, etc.).
BONUS POINT: if the book contains the word "LEAF" in its text.
Is this one ok? The book I’m reading even qualifies for the bonus point
With task #1, I thought I'd mention how Melanie has responded to some of our questions about the bonus point "leaf" task. The word "leaf" must be in the text without modification, so "leaflet," "leafed," "leaves," etc. will not count for the bonus point. I spent hours searching for a book that fits both the primary task instructions and the bonus "leaf" instructions of task #1 with no luck. I commend you Tiffany for finding a book that works for what I think is the most difficult task in this challenge. :)I hope you are feeling better than you did yesterday Tiffany.
My book uses “leaf”, I’m pretty sure. I’ll check again to be positive though. If it does, I finished last night so I’ll be able to post today. Do we have this week’s bonus task yet?
Tiffany wrote: "My book uses “leaf”, I’m pretty sure. I’ll check again to be positive though. If it does, I finished last night so I’ll be able to post today. Do we have this week’s bonus task yet?"Yes, Grace is doing the bonus task this week and also taking task #26.
Monique has a nice list of whose all reading what that I've noticed her keeping updated in an above comment. So, here it is so you can see it down here:

BONUS POINT TASK: Grace? (The Hunger Games?)
Hey! I can't believe round two's already started. Great job at getting yours already read, Deanne. I'm okay with you taking #7, Tiffany. Does your book have a snowy cover so we could take the bonus point on that one?
I'm thinking about taking task #2. I'm almost finished a book that would work for it. #2. Thanks-giving (November 23)
*Read a book using one of the following options:
- “THANKFUL” or “GRATEFUL” is in the text.
- THANKSGIVING in the title.
But I also have a book I really want to read on my kindle that would work for task #4. It all depends on how much reading time I get. :(
#4.Thanksgiving Meal Staples
*Read a book that has a TURKEY or PUMPKIN PIE on its cover or in its text.
Hey Karis, I'm okay with you doing either task #2 or #4.I was thinking about doing task #24
#24. Poinsettia
*Read a book using one of the following options:
-Majority of cover is either red or green
-Has a poinsettia on the cover or in the text
-Title starts with a letter in the word “poinsettia”
And using The Golden Braid by Melanie Dickerson for this one. The cover has the majority of the color red.
Tiffany wrote: "I can do the bonus task if y’all need me to"Go right ahead Tiffany! =) I can't think of any books I have right now that has a wreath on the cover. I was going to ask if anyone had a book for this task, so go right ahead. =)
