What are you currently working on?

Are you writing for CampNaNo?

What is your summer project this year?

Brian Basham (brianbasham) | 390 comments I'm still working on my first novel. At least the finish line is in sight. It's off in the distance over there. *points* I have all the usual stuff like my blog that I am now trying to do daily updates for. With daily updates I'm getting a lot more hits and posting links to the new stuff twice a day on social media seems to be working better than what I was doing before. I have my current serial story on wattpad called Grim that I am updating weekly. This week has been crazy with new ideas for stories too. I have 3 really amazing story ideas that I just got within the past 2 days. I'm going to turn at least one of those into a short story to post on wattpad. Hopefully I can finish all of that this summer....

Current project...does munching down on the to-read list count?
Well...I don't know if reading one while adding 5 helps any though but that's what I'm doing this summer. I'll start on book 3 this fall. I have a paragraph written for a side story so I'm just not sure which one I'll work on first: the sequel or the side story.

message 4: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Lawson | 91 comments I'm procrastinating on writing a guest blog post for my book blitz in 2 weeks. I've been mostly working on my book that is coming out in December, but I have a little writing ADD and keep getting distracted with 2 other projects. I would feel guilty, but I'm ahead of schedule so I can get away with it.

I considered doing CampNaNo because I told people I would try to get a fourth book out this year, but i'm not really sure that one is going to be novel length. Oh, and my husband is already nagging me to start sleeping more.

Kevin Moore (kevmoorewrites) | 63 comments I'm afraid I'm not doing CampNaNo. In fact, I'm not doing any new writing this summer :( I'm revising book 2 of my Witches of the Water trilogy, which I will hopefully be able to publish by summer's end. I wrote the whole series as one massive novel in '07-08' and just kind of let it sit. My New Year's resolution this year was to finally get the project off my desk and into readers' hands, so I revised and published book 1 over winter break (I'm a professor), book 2 is the summer project, and hopefully I'll wrap up the series after fall semester. Once this is done, I can get started some fresh writing next year...maybe I'll even CampNaNo!

message 6: by David (new)

David Thirteen (davidjthirteen) It would be fun to be part of CampNaNo, I envy my friends who are taking part. It's ironic that I have to much writing to do this summer to join up. I'll be continuing with my new serial novel (The Things We Bury), while working with my publisher on the edits for my first book (Mr. 8). And I would love to get a few short stories written, but I don't see that happening.

Best of luck to all those taking part!

Neil Bursnoll | 109 comments I've been tweaking the novel I started during last years NaNo! I've finished the second draft, so I'm now at that quandary of what to do next.

message 8: by David (new)

David Ciccarelli (scifi_writer) I am editing a MG supernatural book I finished the past spring and trying to market a science fiction book I self-published. Both are the beginnings of series that I'll probably never continue. I'm also trying to be more active on Absolute Write and Goodreads since I let that slide during the school year.

message 9: by Emma (new)

Emma Lindhagen (emmalindhagen) Right now I'm doing Camp NaNo, working on a paranormal romance (which I am not entirely sure will actually turn out to be a romance). It's been a slow start but I'm going to be spending the weekend catching up.

message 10: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Willows (brittanymwillows) I'm struggling to get the second book in my sci-fi trilogy finished and ready for a December/January launch. I have a goal of at least 200 pages with this story (because anything less seems really tiny to me) but I am currently at 114 and running out of content, so I'm worried I might not make that goal. :I

I'd love to join Camp NaNo. It sounds like a lot of fun, but I just can't come up with a good enough idea, let along write it up fast enough. xD Perhaps some day, though!

message 11: by Giulia (new)

Giulia I guess my current project is working on what I hope is my first novel.

Other than that, my reviews and blog posts.

message 12: by P.D. (new)

P.D. Workman (pdworkman) 46,000 words into my Camp NaNo novel. Coming along nicely!

message 13: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Strong (samanthalstrong) | 206 comments I'm doing CampNaNo as well. Seven months pregnant and I'm proud of myself for cranking out 2k words a day. I wasn't sure when I decided to do it whether it would be just what I needed or a complete disaster. I had a rough day yesterday (oh, the joys of pregnancy) but having the commitment to do my word count helped take my mind off things. Tomorrow I'm taking a break, though, since I'm a day ahead.

Anyway, I'm writing the sequel to the book I released in May. The plot was done last November and I wanted to have it written and revised by the time the first came out. I've been soooo demotivated this year with writing. I'm hoping that I get it finished in July and then get another revision on an unrelated book in August that I'm waiting on CP's for. We will see how I feel, though. And when the baby comes. She's due Sept 3.

message 14: by Giulia (new)

Giulia I've written about 1500 words today for what I hope will be my first novel.

message 15: by P.D. (new)

P.D. Workman (pdworkman) Yay S! Go for it!

message 16: by David (new)

David Thirteen (davidjthirteen) @S. That's a great way to use the camp. Best of luck with both your creative endeavors!

E.A. Lake (ealake) | 17 comments One third done with book 3 of my WWIV series. Plotting point for second third. The final third is still playing in my head like a spastic movie. Should be clearer after the next fifteen chapters.

message 18: by Camy (new)

Camy (camytang) Hi everybody, I'm new here. I'm also doing Camp NaNoWriMo! I'm working on a cozy mystery for Guideposts books, in the Secrets of Blue Hill Library series. I want to finish the book by the end of the month, but it's been slow going so far. I've really got to ramp things up.

Hi Camy, things have been going pretty slow for me too, I think it's the heat :x

message 20: by Camy (new)

Camy (camytang) Haha okay I'll blame it on that. :)

message 21: by Michael (new)

Michael | 2 comments I've got two. The one that's taking up most of my time at the moment is the upcoming (July 21st) launch of Zeus Is Dead: A Monstrously Inconvenient Adventure, which is my first non-self-published book. (I'm excited!!) :D

The second, which I hope to spend more time on after the ZID launch, is A Dragon at the Gate, which is the third book in my New Aeneid Cycle sci-fi series.

Devrie Spaulding | 13 comments Hello everyone! I am new here as well. What do we post about? How does this work? I just love connecting with people who share the same hobbies. What is everyone's? Mine is reading and writing.

Hi Deverie, you can head on over to the introductions post to tell everyone alittle about yourself if you want, each thread is a topic and you can answer the questions there and read through other people's posts. And you can make a new thread if you want to ask a specific question :]

message 24: by Devrie (new)

Devrie Spaulding | 13 comments Oh ok. Thanks, Bisky! Still learning how all this internet social stuff works.

message 25: by J. David (new)

J. David Clarke (clarketacular) | 418 comments Still working on book 3 in my science fiction / super hero series. It's been moving very slowly, although in the last couple of weeks I've been having much more productive writing days. Not participating in Camp NaNo or anything else right now. Will be participating in November's NaNoWriMo as I did last year. (With a sequel to last year's NaNo book, to boot!)

message 26: by Shannon (new)

Shannon Pemrick I'm working on marketing book one of my trilogy, editing and expanding on book 2, and finishing the first draft of book 3. I'm also coming up with a crazy amount of other books to start working on that are related to the trilogy and aren't related in the least. My brain really doesn't want to stop when I could use a break!

I'm not doing the NaNoWriMo. I admire those who can accomplish/tackle those challenges, but I can't. I just don't have the time to dedicate to them since I work a full time job and have to write around that and other things in life that take priority over my writing. Plus I can't write under pressure. I need to go at my own pace. Otherwise I get blocks.

message 27: by P.D. (new)

P.D. Workman (pdworkman) I would say that the majority of people who do NaNo have either full time jobs or schooling, so don't let that stop you. But I agree that NaNo is not for everyone. It has to fit your writing process. And I knew about it for a number of years before I did my first one.

One of my most popular blog posts is about finding the time to write, amidst full-time job and all of the other commitments:

Samantha Strong (samanthalstrong) | 206 comments I totally kicked Camp NaNo's butt. I got done with the book on July 25 and now have 78.5k (58.5k written during NaNo) to mold and shape into something resembling a half-decent book. I have to say that I'm really proud of myself, more so than I have been on other projects, just because I was stuck in a rut so much. It was definitely what I needed.

But I agree--not for everyone. I've never participated in it before and never felt compelled to since I was always working on something else. It just came at an ideal time for me, and I'm so glad it did.

Also, I have a full-time job. I did most of my writing on the train (45 minutes to/from) or at lunchtime. Sometimes at night when my husband was working, I'd get the words in. I find that even though I'm a night owl, I need to get words out of the way in the morning. If I don't, then I feel like I'm dragging behind all day and it becomes a mental block. I might have less time overall in a day, but if I start early in the morning, I get more done. So you just gotta figure out what works!

I have no idea if I'll do it again or not, but it was a great experience. I just wish I'd had a cabin that was active. I got recruited into one and everyone said they were active. But I and one other person were the only ones writing, and she never came onto the message board. So it was a bit lonely. I had to cheer myself on.

message 29: by P.D. (new)

P.D. Workman (pdworkman) Yay S! Good job!

Even fifteen minutes of writing sneaked in throughout the day can help!

message 30: by Brian (new)

Brian Basham (brianbasham) | 390 comments @S if you ever need a cheering section hit me up on twitter or on here. I know you're working extra hard on whatever project you are currently working on. Sometimes we all need someone else to tell us that we are awesome even if we already know it.

message 31: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Strong (samanthalstrong) | 206 comments So true, P.D. Sometimes I'm too much of an all-or-nothing person, but I have to remind myself that one more word is one more word.

And thanks, Brian. :) I'm hoping not to lose my momentum, but with the baby coming, I might be needing it!

message 32: by Shannon (new)

Shannon Pemrick That's a really well done blog post P.D. I'll have to remember it.
