Rachel Heaney | 210 comments Another title I have seen that would fit this prompt:
How to Find Love in a Bookshop by Veronica Henry

message 102: by Julie (new)

Julie | 172 comments I think my choice for this prompt is going to be The Bookseller of Kabul. Some other ideas that may not have been mentioned here yet are The Moment of Everything and Jericho (LGBT romance with protag who sets up and runs a new library).

message 103: by Leigh (last edited Jan 13, 2018 09:55PM) (new)

Leigh | 25 comments I read (listened to) The Library at the Edge of the World for this prompt. I saw it on Nov 2107 LibraryReads' list and it was available on Hoopla as an audiobook so I gave it a go.

message 104: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1301 comments I liked The Library of Shadows by a Danish author and just found out that it´s translated to English. I read it a while ago, but would just recommend it.

message 105: by Erin (new)

Erin (erinlovescats) | 25 comments I think I'm going to use the book my son and I just finished for this one. It's called Book Scavenger. A local bookshop and a publishing house feature prominently in the story.

It also mentions a lot of other books so it helps give ideas for that prompt too, which was a fun surprise to me while reading this!

Book Scavenger (Book Scavenger, #1) by Jennifer Chambliss Bertman

message 107: by Mada (last edited Jan 20, 2018 09:25AM) (new)

Mada (madelleine) | 13 comments Hey,

Here I really enjoyed If on a winter's night a traveller by Italo Calvino and The Name of the Wind, first one in the series by Patrick Rothfuss (I'm going to read the second book this year). Also from fantasy, I think any books from the Discworld series involving the Unseen University (therefore, the Librarian as well) could work without being too much of a stretch.

message 108: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 187 comments I also finished The Library At The Edge of the World on Hoopla for this prompt. For those who have access to Hoopla, there is also 'The Secret, Scone, and Book Society' where the main character runs a bookstore. I think would count as well for this category.

message 109: by Crumb (new)

Crumb | 395 comments I just read All the Beautiful Lies and in it the father who was killed is a rare book collector and he owns a book store which his son works at. It isn't a huge, huge part of the book, but I would say it made up a good deal of the book. Can I use it?

message 110: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Kim | 19 comments There is also The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco, in which the library plays a great role. And it is one great book...

message 111: by Crumb (new)

Crumb | 395 comments Can anyone tell me if this would work?
The Bookseller of Kabul by Åsne Seierstad

message 112: by Christina (new)

Christina | 1 comments Just finished Thief of Lies and it was SO good!

message 113: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sezziy) | 901 comments Lirael features a library pretty heavily in the beginning

message 114: by Trish (new)

Trish | 67 comments I'm sort of considering using Quidditch Through the Ages for this one since it is "property of Hogwarts Library" and it is talked about on the inside by Dumbledore how it is a book read from in the library. I don't know if I'll end up doing it after all since it's such a short book, but for anyone who's looking to be a little "loose" on this prompt, this is a suggestion!

message 115: by Carissa (new)

Carissa (bluelightningjeep) The librarian of Auschwitz, the world’s strongest librarian, or the Invisible library. I’ve read so many library or bookstore books. One pretty good one I read last year was the bookshop on the corner.

message 116: by Greta (new)

Greta Freeman | 1 comments Would - The Princess Bride - work for this category? Since one of the characters is an author and he is looking/ calling around multiple bookstores looking for a certain book for his son.

message 117: by Milaarquen (new)

Milaarquen | 11 comments Federica wrote: "The Neverending Story is a really really good book"

Does it count? I'm reading it now and the bookstore appears only in the beginning and now I'm not sure if I can list it in this category.

message 119: by Jaclyn (last edited Feb 07, 2018 04:52AM) (new)

Jaclyn (jayinbee) | 22 comments The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan
(A librarian loses her job and opens a bookshop run out of a van, moves to a entirely new place, and of course there's a romance aspect).
The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin
(A baby is abandoned in a bookstore and the grumpy, lonely owner adopts her and raises her in the shop. It's a mystery trying to discover who her parents are and how the events came to pass that led to her extraordinary upbringing. I sobbed at the end).

I just finished the first and read the latter last year. Both are great reads and fit the prompt perfectly.

message 120: by Den (new)

Den (alleise012) | 4 comments I recommend STRANGE THE DREAMER by Laini Taylor for those looking for a good YA read for this prompt.

message 122: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Eckler | 31 comments I had previously suggested Haruki Murakami's The Strange Library for this challenge, but as I was reading it I was reminded that my favorite Murakami book, Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, also takes place in large part in a library. Both are recommended!

message 123: by Patti (new)

Patti (pattiluvsamystery) | 7 comments The Bookseller

I just finished The Bookseller and I was surprised at how much I liked it.

message 124: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn | 6 comments For this prompt I will be reading Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore

But I also recommend: Words in Deep Blue, I read this last year and it was such a welcome surprise--and I think it well-captured the essence of bookstores.

I just listened to this audiobook and really enjoyed it.

message 126: by Lindsay (last edited Mar 17, 2018 07:23AM) (new)

Lindsay S I will be reading The Last Equation of Isaac Severy: A Novel in Clues by Nova Jacobs. The main character, Hannah, is the owner of a struggling Seattle bookstore.

If you'd like to double count this book as part of a celebrity book club, it was recommended by Sophia Bush via Book of the Month.

message 127: by Amalie (new)

Amalie Turner (amalieturner) A few less obvious options are You or The Nightingale, which both include a book store.

message 128: by Jess (new)

Jess Penhallow | 427 comments in The Time Traveler's Wife the time traveller works at a library.

message 129: by Melissa (new)

Melissa N | 11 comments Check out The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend. It will also help with the book mentioned in another book prompt because it has a whole list of books mentioned organized in the back.

message 131: by Kim (new)

Kim Erickson (madtroll) | 1 comments Ingrid wrote: "There is also The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco, in which the library plays a great role. And it is one great book..."

one of my all time favorite books, read this several times. May have to read again for this prompt!

I was looking to read this one for this prompt, too! Glad you enjoyed!

Shelby (shelbyreads95) Amalie wrote: "A few less obvious options are You or The Nightingale, which both include a book store."
I just read You and was wondering if that would count! Although, I do have quite a few books on my TBR involving a bookstore or a library. One that I read recently was "Dear Fahrenheit 451," which was written by a librarian, and includes notes she writes to the books in her life. Super cute and funny! Also very easy to pick up and put down because the letters are pretty short (aka lots of good stopping points).

message 134: by Jess (new)

Jess Penhallow | 427 comments I didn't enjoy Boy, Snow, Bird but one of the protagonists works in a bookstore and quite a few scenes take place there.

I read Ajax Penumbra 1969 for this. A good length novelette with a complete plot. I recommend it!

message 138: by Cyndy (new)

Cyndy (cyndy-ksreader) | 133 comments I read Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan. It was different, but I liked it. I'm sorry, but I just laughed out loud when I read the topic - "involves a bookstore OR a library," Since this book involves both a bookstore AND a library - it might cause some that are more precise in their interpretation of the prompts a little trouble.

message 139: by Jess (new)

Jess Penhallow | 427 comments I read The Historian and boy does it fit this prompt. So many beautiful old libraries (view spoiler)

message 140: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Burney | 4 comments I've just read The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry for this prompt. It's a lovely book. I really enjoyed it.

message 141: by Jenn (new)

I'm adding this one :)

I love this book. I heard that I've heard that it's going to have a TV series adaptation or something.

I just found it on imdb.com. Starts airing in September. I can't wait since I loved that book too!

message 147: by Crumb (last edited May 09, 2018 12:37PM) (new)

Crumb | 395 comments Has anyone read the sequel of YOU entitled Hidden Bodies? If so, would it qualify for this prompt?

message 148: by Tania (new)

Tania | 678 comments I just finished Dear Mr. Knightley by Katherine Reay. I'm not sure that I'll use it for this prompt (I'm planning to read The Shadow of the Wind) but I think it could fit. Though a lot of the book takes place outside of these venues, the main character works in a library for part of the book (and several scenes are set in there), and spends times in bookstores (where several significant events take place), plus she quotes the books she reads nonstop (this could sound annoying but surprisingly it is not).

message 149: by Agnès (new)

Agnès Denie I read The Little Paris Bookshop I finished it, but it left me a bit unsatisfied.

message 150: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline | 407 comments I have a heap to pick from to use for this prompt. I’ve read 84, Charing Cross Road, Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore, Little Paris Bookshop so far and I’m in the middle of listening to Contest by Matthew Reilly which takes place in the New York Public Library. Yeahhh just a few.
