That's what I was thinking, too. I still have my initial list of the possible books for each prompt, so I'll probably just go back to it & pick one that didn't make the final cut. A lot of those weren't because I didn't want to read that book, but because I had easier access to a different one, so I went with it instead.

I have either a lot of books I have been planning to read or none really because I don't really think like that, so this prompt feels a bit stupid for me... But there are a couple of books that I have been wanting to read (and fit in prompts for 2018) but I want to read the first book about the same character before those. It's not really a series, the books are standalones, but the person's background does get referenced. It also doesn't fit in other prompts, so...

Yes, for me this is basically a free space as well. So having Overdrive’s function of remembering what books I checked out is helpful. I often fail to get to books before the loan expires.

Ack! How am I going to do this one? I don't really set out lists of books to read ahead of time- instead I select books from the library that look interesting, and then see what prompts they fit into. By the middle of the year I was seeking out books specifically to fit certain prompts, but I was still making that decision on a book-by-book basis, getting help on this website and then reserving the specific title, or searching out the library with the prompt in mind.

So, since I never had a list of books "to be read in 2017" how can I have any that I didn't read?


Oh, I've got it! Take out a stack of books in mid to late December and don't finish them all before January. Whichever book I read first in January will fulfill this prompt. I just have to figure out which book to count if I'm in the middle of one on December 31st- do I count the book I started in 2017 but finished in 2018 or the first book I start in 2018?

I often don’t get to all my library books before hey have to be returned, so I’ll be reading one of those.

Though I also often see books and put them on my library wish list. I guess I didn’t 100% mean to read them this year, but clearly I meant to read them at some point, so that may work too.

Personally, I count when I finish the book and mark it as Read on goodreads. Last year a few of us started the 800-page book in December and marked it off this year's list when we finished in January.

Hahaha I was going to suggest checking out a book at the very end of 2017 but not reading it until 2018.

I started Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She's "Learned" at the end of 2016, and forgot about it when the 2017 challenge came into my life...so I'm going to finish it for this challenge. A bit sneaky, but it'll be a push for me to complete the challenge so any little helps!

I also wanted to read Lab Girl but I think I can fit it elsewhere. And What Happened, but I'm still not sure if I can read that without rage sobbing.

I'm reading Rogue Warrior by Richard Marcinko. It's an autobiography and he's the founder of Navy SEAL Team Six. It's an interesting book now that I got into it but not for people who don't enjoy military topics since so much of it is about his tours in Vietnam.

I read The Stand for this prompt. It is over 1400 pages long and I started it in December of 2017 so I definitely meant to read it then. I would recommend but be aware of the length of the book.

I just finished Gizelle's Bucket List: My Life with a Very Large Dog for this prompt and it was so very good. But it would fit for so many other prompts as well. A book about death or grief, a book with an animal in the title, a book about mental health?? Just be prepared to read it with tissues!

I meant to read this last year but I just wasn't in the mood for it. I started but quit after 50 pages. I definitely wanted to read it this year so I made it the first choice for a book club I was organizing. It was so beautiful and fun to read.
