I don't know about this, I haven't read it. But usually reading in publication order is good. That's how the ideas came to the author first, or it may even have been planned like that on purpose. And it works like a flashback in a movie: if you know the present, then the past is an explanation or a complement to the situation you already know. In some series, it even won't work well if if read in chronological order.

I second Dorian Gray. If Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe ends up being a buddy read, I'm so there. (Would also be interested in a buddy read for the whole series tbh.)
I second:The Phantom Tollbooth
The Picture of Dorian Gray
Auntie Mame: An Irreverent Escapade
The Invisible Man
Thanks
Dorian Grey is a big one--- I read it when I was in 5th grade. Haven't read Their Eyes Were Watching God OR the Godfather OR Animal Farm... I guess that's what this group is for, big books you haven't read. Definitely making a list for myself
Sunny,If it helps my, edition of Dorian Gray only has about 220 pages in it, so it's pretty short. I am almost positive it is The Modern Library edition which I think is Random House.
First, I'm new to the group so HI! I am an avid reader but I know that my go-to books do not normally involve the classics or the popular best-sellers so I am looking forward to starting to actively participate in this group come January (I have books lined up for the rest of the year already).I'd like to go WAY back and suggest Canterbury Tales. I have been meaning to read it and would love if the group read it too.
I'd also like to suggest Dante's Inferno or Tess of the d'Ubervilles.
I second Anne of Green Gables and the CS Lewis books.
I will also second Tess of the D'Urbervilles, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and All Quiet on the Western Front.
I'll second Tess of the D'Urbervilles! LOVED that book in high school-wrote my senior thesis on it. Would also like to nominate The Mysterious Affair at Styles AND/OR Murder on the Orient Express
I'll second Murder on the Orient Express, especially since I have a rule to read the book before I watch the movie and the new one is coming out. Then I can finally watch all of the versions of the movie!
I haven't read The Magician's Nephew I will second this one if it was actually a nomination. Otherwise I nominate it.I have read The Lion Witch and the Wardrobe several times and want to read a different one in the series.
Animal FarmA Wrinkle in Time
The Odyssey
Slaughterhouse-Five
Those are my faves so far. So many good suggestions!
There are way too many good nominations this month! Somehow I managed to narrow down my top 3, so I'll second:
Animal Farm
Slaughterhouse-Five
Anne of Green Gables
Animal Farm
Slaughterhouse-Five
Anne of Green Gables

I second Anne of Green Gables.
Jasmine wrote: "I nominate Emma by Jane Austen.I'll second Their Eyes Were Watching God."
I will Second Emma by Jane Austen.
Kimberly wrote: "I would also like to nominate On the Road by Jack Kerouac and Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov."I'll second Lolita.
I'll nominate To Kill a Mockingbird. Kind of surprised no one said it yet.(Side note: after you read Anne of Green Gables, I suggest watching the Netflix Original Series, Anne with an "E". It follows the storyline fairly well)

To Kill A Mockingbird is a selection for next month, I believe :) The bookshelf shows it.
Hi All, I am new to this group and trying to catch up with the discussion.I second "To Kill a Mockingbird". It's going to be an interesting read.
Hi Delaney and Mishica,
Daph is correct, we are actually reading To Kill a Mockingbird as a group next month (or rather, starting in a few days). Hope you can join us!
Thanks,
Kasey

However, a suggestion for everyone, especially new members. It is very difficult that a nomination made in the last week of the month gets enough seconding to make it into the polls. That's because people have been coming to see the discussion all along the month, discussing, choosing and seconding.
So, if you have a very good idea for a nomination, a hint: don't make in the end of the month. It'll have more chances to be seconded if you make it the next week, at the beginning of the month's discussion. :-)
