Meera Hi, this is my third year and 2017 was my worst! I only read 12 previously owned books out of the 100+ books I read all year. I don't know if I'll do any better in 2018. The problem is that I actually read most of the books I bought in 2017 soon afterwards but I still have some that I'm looking forward to reading next year. Good news is that I'm getting better at buying books that I will read right away and bad news is that I still own way too many books.

Jennifer | 34 comments Hello! My name is Jen. This is my second year in the Mount TBR challenge. Last year I hit the summit of Mt. Blanc so I'm going for Mt. Vancouver this year. (36 books) Happy reading everybody. I would love to connect with more readers this year.

message 160: by Krista (new)

Krista (booksandjams) This is my first year joining in Mount TBR and will be aiming for 50 specific from my shelves...but really hoping for closer to 75 altogether. I have no clue how many I have in total. I should count today. I'm positive it's hundreds.

message 161: by Jadetyger (new)

Jadetyger Sevea Hi! I'm JadeTyger (Erika), and this is my third (fourth?) year in the mountains. I have a huge TBR pile, both in electronic and paper books.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it ;) ) I went on a book buying spree last year and so my TBR pile has only grown.

I've chosen Pike's Peak to start my journey this year, though I'm pretty sure I'll end up climbing other mountains this year. My Goodreads Challenge is set at 70. Hopefully I'll meet the goal this time!

Good luck to all my fellow travellers!

message 162: by E (new)

E (ewillse) | 41 comments This is my first time officially joining Mt. TBR.
I have stacks and piles of books I'm meaning to read, going back to at least 2010! Eeesh!
I'm sticking with the 12-book Pike's Peak tier, because I know that library books will catch my eye (occupational hazard for a public librarian!)... going to try not to buy new books, if possible.
I'm not going to set up a defined TBR because I read so much by whim and mood.

message 163: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (purpleypumpkin) | 7 comments Hi all! This will be my first official Mount TBR climb. I read 90 books in 2017 and I'm determined to get to 100 in 2018. I own hundreds of unread books in various formats, paper, ebooks, audiobooks, and I'd like to make a dent in my tbr. Looking forward to participating in the Mt Everest climb and to following the climbs of others as well!

I have a problem buying books that I'm anxious to read and then hoard them!😲 I knew this year I wanted to read my shelf and what better way to do that then with this group.
I'm going to start off small this year with 24 books and see how it goes. I want to read 50 books this year, but knowing me, I need to leave half my list for new releases and library books. It takes time to change old habits.😉

message 175: by Marni (new)

Marni (marnitanya) | 12 comments My first time doing this challenge. One of my friends said she was doing it, and piqued my curiosity. Last year I realized that the majority of the books I read (if not all) were books from the library or books I bought specifically to read at that moment. I have soooooo many books, most I haven't read yet, so this seems perfect for me! I'm going to try for 12, because I'm currently reading a library book and purchased another book today for the Litsy challenge. My overall goal for 2018 is 24.

message 176: by Ron (new)

Ron (krnm) Hi, I'm Ron, I'm a steady but not huge reader (40 books finished in 2017). Between print, electronic, and audio, I own around 500 titles that I haven't read. Not that that's a bad thing per se, but I bought them for more than their looks.

This year I'm going for Mont Blanc (24), though if things go well I'd really like to tackle Mount Vancouver (36).

Neil Jon Louie Miranda (metamerism) | 5 comments Hi! My name is Neil. I have loads of books at home that I still haven't read (I don't even know how many there are--more than 500, I guess?) and I hope to knock some of them off before my mountain range grows again this year (just like any other year).

I tried scaling Mt. Vancouver last year, but got only halfway because life got in the way. This year, I'm aiming for the same mountain, and I hope reach the summit this time!

message 182: by Stina (new)

message 184: by GlassasDiamonds (new)

GlassasDiamonds | 6 comments Hi! I'm G.

This is my first Mount TBR challenge and actually my first ever GoodReads challenge.

After living in China for a few years which meant storing all my books, a huge number of banned books (generally all the ones that I wanted to read!), limits on the import of english language books and even heavily censored books, I found that I've gone a little nuts since moving somewhere with actual bookstores and online shopping.

My TBR got massively out of control in 2017, so I'm hoping to summit Kilimanjaro this year (60!) and tip the balance of my shelves more firmly towards "read" than "unread".

message 185: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (greeniezona) Hi! I’m Jen. I’d already made the bookish resolution to read two books that I owned prior to 2018 for every new or library book, and then I heard about this group! It seems like an obvious fit. I’m specifically targeting a small bookcase of three shelves where I collect the unread books that I’m most interested in reading soon. Hopefully I can actually get some significant movement in those shelves this year!

message 186: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wmaresca) Hi my name is Wendy and this is the perfect book club for me. I have hundreds of books on my tbr so I will be trying for Mt. Olympus. It is a far stretch but going to try. Finger Crossed lol

message 187: by Steven (new)

Steven (wyldemusick) | 189 comments Apparently I'm now dreaming about doing this, as I could have sworn I posted an introduction back when I started my challenge topic in Mount Olympus.

So, hello, I'm Steven, and I'm a biblioholic. I'm on Goodreads under my legal name, as that's also my byline as a writer, but in my daily life I'm mostly known as David Alexander McDonald, which is also the name I use on my music. Either name is fine to use, though; beats being the target of pejoratives.

I've been doing Mount TBR since 2012, with 2013 being, I think, my first shot at Olympus -- the transition from Everest to Olympus being marked, I kid you not, by my house being firebombed (more or less accidentally; I wasn't the target) while completion was marked by my going in to hospital for open heart surgery, after which I read *more* books. As I said, biblioholic.

Aside from the whole squad goals thing, I need to do Mount TBR very year because, well, biblioholic, and while I've mostly managed to quit acquiring the freebies, I've continued being sucked in by big sales, and smaller sales, and In Stock Trades giving me a loyalty discount just when there's a new omnibus I want.

I'm trying to buy fewer physical books these days, with the ones I do buy being careful choices. When it comes to digital books, though? "Oh, look, a sale!" *sigh* My apartment looks like a particularly rumpled bookstore, with piles of books everywhere.

Once again I've hit the ground running, though my pace may already be slackening. I also expect to start recording again shortly, which will slow me down.

message 188: by Robin (Saturndoo) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Hello All!!!!

I see a few familiar faces here but for those who don't know me my name is Robin and I am a 46 year old book hoarder :)

I have a very busy "real life" but in my down time I like to read, collect books, crochet and hang out on the internet. I own lots and lots of epubs, audios, and physical books.

For the last 3-4 months, I have been trying to organize all my epubs. I have a private group here on GR where I have been compiling lists of the books I own and need to read. So before signing up for this I had already decided that 2018 was going to be books I own :)

I heard about this challenge last year on Litsy. I signed up but just was not able to keep up with ANY of my challenges last year. I love challenges BUT I just don't have time to keep up with the posting, which is very time consuming. So this year I am only doing this challenge and the GR challenge. I pledged to read 250 books for the GR challenge and I want them ALL to be the books I own but one trip to the library will ruin that LOL I also have a couple of personal challenges that I will also be working on which are just basically a couple of lists I acquired(1001 books to read before you die, 2 YA book lists, and I want to read some more classics) No pressure on those challenges as they are my own lol

I have pretty much been on a book buying ban BUT not an epub ban. I did stop getting all the kindle freebies as I don't use my two kindles anymore.

I am climbing Mt Olympus so stop over and visit if you can. wish you all the best of luck in this challenge. I will be visiting your threads to cheer you on and see what you are reading.

Have lots of fun and Happy Reading.

message 189: by Linda (new)

Linda Hi! I'm Linda and this will be my first challenge. I love to read and really want to bring my the down. I will start at the 24 book challenge. My biggest problem is that I love the library and tend to read those books more quickly because of having a due date.

message 193: by Brave (new)

Brave (bravereads) | 22 comments I'm Brave (yes, legally, that is my name, and yes, I do know what my parents were thinking, haha!).

This is my first year doing this challenge, but I've been looking to find a structured but also low-key group to encourage me to read my own books for awhile, and this group seems like the best! :)

I think I'll be starting with Mt. Vancouver, simply because I don't know how many books I'll be allowed time to read this year (reading goal is only 25 on the Goodreads Challenge), though I have gotten off to a strong start, and typically read 80+ books in a year.

I guess I'll get my gear together and start climbing.

Structured but low-key. I think that describes us well! And hey, I like the name. My parents gave me a super common name with a different spelling; rather than being unique and interesting, I just feel annoyed that it always gets misspelled... hehe
