We're both having it, and everyone here I know except two staff members. Don't know what's with them.Washington Post: "After 15 hours and rioters attacking the Capitol, Pence officially affirms Biden’s win."
I don't know what the next step it, but this is pretty definitive. I hope they hold all those domestic terrorists accountable - that is not how we want to do things here. At least I don't, nor anyone whose opinion I respect.
Well, fortunately I didn't get back to sleep, as my neighbour rang at 9.30, the consultant was sick, the only one they could find wasn't experienced enough in that kind of surgery, so I had to go and get her. Turns out it's a 4 hour surgery and she wouldn't be allowed out the same day! I'm keeping the day off, as I have enough left to take more time when she gets rearranged. At least I got to Aldi on the way home, and we got back just as it started snowing!
Roads not busy round here but not quite as quiet as in the first lockdown. Finally decided to get to grips with sourdough baking. I love the idea of having a yeast you perpetuate, and never have to buy again. I've jointed a couple of Facebook groups dedicated to the art/science. It seems that it's de rigeur to name your yeast starter. Someone has called hers Clint Yeastwood! Mine's just Sadie. First boule to go in the oven this evening.
Anna wrote: "I wonder what the history books are going to say about these last few years!"I wonder what the history books are going to say about yesterday! The US as a banana republic. And the horrible feeling we barely made it out by the skin of our teeth. Which is probably an exaggeration, but you guys DID manage to Brexit. I'm looking forward to history on that one, too.
Anna wrote: "I wonder what the history books are going to say about these last few years!"Remember the history books will be written by people who also saw what happened in the next few years as well
There are already some scathing articles, and the full fallout hasn't been revealed, and won't be for quite a while.Even better, there is video, where white supremacists tell you personally, and recorded at the Capitol, why it's okay for them to attack the seat of Congress with armed men.
Rather disappointed with the weather, the snow was so pathetic yesterday it didn't do much, and then it started melting before snowing again, so not sticking. I did at least enjoy my day off, despite it being a bit of a waste, and looks like it was a busy day at work! Two meetings today, so not much chance of catching up.
Morning all, been up for hours, but watching TV in bed with Lucy, apart from the fact my foot was burning, I could have stayed there all morning. Supposed to be going for a walk with a friend today, although it isn't supposed to get above freezing till 7pm! Not much housework this weekend, so I think I might go through my pile of paperbooks to read, and put them back in alphabetical order.
It’s warmer here but there’s s unexpected patches of ice under the damp so it’s a bit lethal out there. I’m staying in the warm like a good obedient citizen our devolved dictator wants us all to be :o)Have a good day all.
Not actually freezing at the moment and we've got contractors with a big digger and a couple of spreaders emptying the slurry pitLife goes on :-)

Morning all, was very happy yesterday, I tried ringing my telephone friend (have been ringing intermittently in the hope of finding out what happened to her) and she answered! She had gone in hospital with Covid, she was so poorly her family were warned it was touch and go, she spent 3 weeks in hospital and 2 weeks in a rehab facility, and came home on New Years Day. So will go back to ringing her every other day.
Morning all. Just been to the last church service for some time. Bit of a bummer as it's pleasantly social. We all stand outside two metres apart, bundled up in our coats, hats, gloves, masks and in a couple of cases, steamed up glasses and have a chat. I will really miss it. Although I might join zoom church as that's quite chatty apparently. Otherwise I'll just watch the streamed service at home.I think the churches should remain open but at the same time, if it's putting people at risk and we are being told that the responsible course is not to gather in groups then clearly holding services is not exactly setting a good example. Tricky ...
Cheers

Hello all, I've spent most of the morning attempting to write an artist's statement for a competition entry and it's not going well! Trying hard not to sound like a complete poncey git as apparently "I paint stuff" is inadequate both in terms of word count and indeed content. That's good news about your telephone friend Desley!
There's a nice wee programme featuring a segment on my home town on Channel 4 this evening - Julie Walters on the east coast train. (it's a bit of a stretch as the main line doesn't actually come here, we're on a branch line...) I think it's the one where she goes out in a boat with my friend Jane the lobster lady.

Apparently the classic answer is 'because murdering people and burying the bodies in the garden is frowned on' :-)

Then when the regulations came out, somebody can go to 'corporate worship' but not private prayer, but we decided that private prayer was safer so we cannot put anything on!

Jim wrote: "M.T. wrote: "Morning all. Just been to the last church service for some time. Bit of a bummer as it's pleasantly social. We all stand outside two metres apart, bundled up in our coats, hats, gloves..."We just shut today until lock down is over. :-( sad but we had to.
I thought churches were allowed to stay open? So glad to hear from my telephone friend, she seemed a lot happier too
They are but the rate of infection here is higher than it was in the first lock down. People are being asked not to gather in groups at all. The fact they're not taking any notice is neither here nor there ... I guess the non is that churches shouldn't be part of that problem.
Of course, someone will pipe up and say that the church is not the buildings but the people. But, being people we need each other and the fellowship of the church is a huge strength, though not the source of power.I don't understand why 'the church' did not meet outside for services, taking the message of courage, comfort and many other things to those who most need it. Now, in lockdown, it's not allowed!
Of course, I do know there are many obstacles to the above!
I watched the Julie Walters programme - really enjoyed it for a change, she’s very down to earth and genuine. It’s our region on itv tonight but not such a delightful subject. The Pembrokeshire Murders. We used to keep our horses at Scoveston (after the murders but while he was still at large) . There’s still more to it than will be reported

I think most of us felt quite safe and that the precautions were excellent but at the same time, the people who've been banging on about the schools will be after us next. Schools ... depends which one. McMini's was excellent and I had no problems with the precautions they were taking, which were extensive. They still closed though and actually even with the incredibly strict precautions they took, they still had four or five cases at the end of last term.
I just said that if the people providing the services, sitting in the church while other folks visited, swabbing it all down and generally keeping it all going were being put at risk or felt uncomfortable it should shut and if they weren't and it could it would be good for it to stay open. If you look at the holy tweets section on twitter (phnark) it's full of vicars going, 'with deepest regret we've decided to close.'
I now have to go to London for an appointment with the knee consultant. Wish me luck!
Eh up!I'm only seeing Jim's posts singly. I feel a little left out. ;)
Couple of days of the sort of sharp frosts that leave sheets of thick ice on the puddles have been followed with a slightly warmer day but the wind-chill factor doesn't make it feel much better. Keep warm, everyone.
Good luck, Mary!

Here there's no ice, it's finally thawed :-)
Ten degrees here today. Taps aff!I have realised today that I haven't had a decent face to face 'real life' conversation with anyone other than my husband since the beginning of September. So lockdown really isn't making much difference tbh.

My daughter commented that because the only people she'd had a conversation with were close family and close friends, she was struggling to talk to people she didn't know well because she'd almost forgotten how to have that sort of conversation

And yet disappointingly saw on BBC News some interviews with Trump supporters who insisted it was all down to antifa (I had to look that up) and the Democrats pretending to be Trump supporters.
Evening, had to go and collect my bedding and neighbours cat food at lunch, so didn't get chance to get on. Randomly we have a weather warning for ice, but it's currently 8, but wet and windy, I'd have thought localised flooding was more appropriate given some of the roads I drove down at lunch! Very few people in the office, some have been questioned for coming in every day! Only had a brief chat with my telephone friend, she has carers coming in at the moment, and I have my typical bad timing! She seems a lot more like she was before having covid though, and I'm glad she has finally got some help, it did sound like she needed it. Hope the app went well MT. That is a sad thought Rosemary and Jim, one advantage of living in a small village, even the people who run the coffee shop always ask how you are doing.
I speak to folk when I'm out Desley - it's a small town and I know a lot of people! - but it's just a quick hello how are you sort of thing rather than a proper conversation :)
'Antifa' doesn't exist. It is simply short for anti-fascist, and the Trump administration pretends it's something like ISIS.There is no organization - I'm an anti-fascist, and many others who oppose Trump are. I'm also against dictators in general.
Any reasonable person who remembers the lessons of WWII is an anti-fascist.

Watching Trump supporters is painful.
Sunny and dry out, but very cold, think we've got a high of 3 and it will be below freezing by teatime. At least I had enough inclination to go for a walk, had a chat with a couple of neighbours and cheered one of them up.
We've had snow all day, but between the fact that it is pathetic, horizontal and it had already rained, it isn't really doing much, the roofs are looking white but that's about it. The bulb went on my wax melt burner the other day, I ordered some new ones, they arrived yesterday, went to swap it to discover that you need a screwdriver to change it, I've never known that! And yesterday morning, I woke up early yesterday with a headache, went to get a paracetamol out of the drawer, which has been dodgy for a while and it completely broke. I'll have to swap it for the only unbroken one, will be a good excuse to go through it and get rid of some of the stuff.

What is happening in America is scary. Glad that you will be able to get the vaccine tomorrow Alicia, are you both having it?
