Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I think it'd be a clear blue sky here if it wasn't for the contrails.
So many planes in and out of Cardiff airport!

Shouldn't complain. We do appreciate it being so convenient.

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Morning everyone.

Intending to tweak a few bits here and there in the garden this morning before it gets too warm. We're forecast a week of high temperatures which means all exposed soil will dry out like concrete. Just as well on the heating front though as the programmer for the heating and hot water has died. We haven't used the immersion for years and there was an ominous groaning when I tried switching it on - so it's kettles for what doesn't go in the dishwasher. Just lucky the shower is electric!

message 5853: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments We've not had a working immersion here for years, Elizabeth.
I'd like to have it removed. It would almost double the storage space in the flat.
We use the kettle for washing up, but I'd love to have an on demand thingy fitted. And a new power shower. The water pressure in the one we've got is disappointing. Takes forever to get shampoo out of my hair.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Morning all, woke up at 5.40, didn't think I'd get back to sleep, but then woke up at 7, unfortunately I set the alarm before I went to bed last night! So that was my cue to medicate Lucy and feed the fosters. Tried to get back to sleep but couldn't, now feeling a bit tired, but loads to do and would like to do it while it is cool, so this afternoon I can sit on the sun lounger and read my book, might snooze on there too.

At least you have a dishwasher Elizabeth, I do need a new boiler while it is warm. I'm in the same position as you with an electric shower, when the old boiler went, the shower died days after, that was a tad inconvenient!! Bridge driver sounds a great job MT. Hope you are OK Benjamin

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all, going to be a cracking day here today. I've been out early and given the baskets their first feed - noticed that we've missed one of the brackets when we hung them last week or someone has nicked a basket! I tend to water in a kind of zen state so must have not noticed :)

My daughter went to Gray's in Aberdeen and is now at the Royal College of Art doing a Masters Patti. I feel so sad about the Mack though, they'd already raised close to £60 million for the first restoration! And only a couple of months away from completion

message 5856: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I hope you missed the basket, Rosemary. I'd hate to think one was knicked.

Do they know what caused the fire? They didn't say on the news.

Maybe there’s a laundrette with a drier.

As for bridge driving. Yeh. Snortle. I love the idea. Hope a few cups of coffee get rid of the pain fo whatever dodgy sleep it was you had. This is probably not the time to say I slept like a baby and had a lovely lie in.

Morning all!

MTM

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I don't think they'll know what caused it for some time, until the investigators have sifted through the ashes :(

Reading laundrette has made me remember my favourite name for a cafe in Edinburgh - The Lost Sock Diner. It's next door to a laundrette. I had a lie in too Mary - till 5.45! Haha

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning each. Himself suggested over breakfast that they should let students design the replacement art school. Great showcase for talent, cheaper...

Today is 'pressure wash the paths' day. It's warm enough that it won't matter that we'll get soaked. If we don't, they get slippery in winter as they pass down the shady side of the garden.

Have a good 'un.

message 5860: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Can't be arsed taking stuff to a laudromat. I bashed the pillows against the doorframe a few times. They're good enough now.

My neck is fine now, thanks. Coffee and some stretches sorted it out.

It's a simply lovely day here. Wish Dave was here. I'd drag him down the island. Oh well. It'll be quieter if we go tomorrow. It'll be overrun with kids and dogs today.

message 5862: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Morning - like the idea of the students designing the art school. Put it in the suggestion box.

MT, Nice one- I've only seen the bridge open once before and it was awesome. We were staring as only tourists do.

Was really hot in the garden at 7.30 this morning so got myself all set up outside, laptop etc, under a tree. Now it's clouded over and even a wee bit chilly. Sigh.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Have survived an Open House by the realtor. There will be no energy for anything else for days, but at least a bunch of people came (at least 4 with agents, another 8 on their own).

Amazingly, they managed to tromp through the house - starting with a lady with two little girls as we were leaving to get out of the way - without making anything look as if we'd had visitors.

We came back to a very tidy house - and no evidence of the whole thing. I am beyond wiped, even after a two-hour nap. Cross fingers.

Morning, everyone. Hope Monday's not too much of a shock to the system after yesterday.

Best of luck, Alicia.

message 5871: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Ergh, Alicia.

Shame you can't stay somewhere else. But that would just add more upheaval, I suppose.
Fingers crossed it sells really quickly!

I gave the kitchen a thorough clean while Dave was away. No idea how it gets so grubby when there's no one here.
Dave walked in last night and made himself a cuppa and a sandwich and totally demolished it. I pushed his mess aside enough to make coffee this morning.
It can sit there and rot. I'm not cleaning it.

Lots of running around to do today.
Gotta sort out eye and dentist appts, collect three parcels, make inquiries at the registry offices, tout around town to find the best dollar rate, order dollars, print documents at the library and buy food.

I'd rather read.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Morning all, sunny again. Podiatrist this afternoon, wonder what will come of that!

Sorry you are so drained Alicia, at least they left it clean. That doesn't sound a fun day Patti. Good luck with the new job Lindsay

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning!

It's gorgeous weather today, I'm raging that I'm stuck in the office and can't sit in the garden with the kids and enjoy the weather. You've been welcomed back to Wales gently, Patti! Weather wise at least.

Good luck today Lindsay!

Hope you sell quickly Alicia.

Hope you feel better today Benjamin.

Glad you enjoyed your time in London Mary.

That's all I can remember.

Got a meeting in 10 minutes better go get myself sorted

My solicitor hates me... I've made them go and look for some documents of mine they wanted which were in a file in their own basement. (They wanted me to search back in my files and find copies for them and post them on instead, but I refused)

message 5877: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Hope it goes well, Lindsay - starting a new job's always a bit overwhelming.

I turned up to the office to find everyone stuck in the car park for an hour because the front door was broken.

You should have explained that there is a fee when you have to do a document search, and didn't expect to see it reflected on the itemised bill they send you at the end process :-)

message 5887: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Best with the new job, Lindsay.

Thanks, Desley. And fingers crossed for the podiatrist visit.

Good for you, Will. But won't the solicitor charge you more for doing their own work?

Being productive is good, Patti. And you won't read much if your tummy is too hungry to focus, so at least the food part is necessary. There is a bad fairy who sprays everything with dirt and grime.

Thanks, all, for the good house wishes. Maybe we should have moved more than twice in a lifetime. 37 years in one place is enough to accumulate a lot of stuff. The sun is shining and someone already drove by slowly twice, looking deliberately at the house. The agent warned us not to let people in randomly, and that's fine with me.

Happy day!

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Eh up everyone - good luck with all your endeavours. Just flitting in here in passing. Been up to Scarboroough to donate a collection of fossil lobsters to the museum. Now got to collect teddies from a mate in the village before tomorrow's trip to the fire station with another couple of dozen.
Writing may not be on the cards today!

Fascinating. Where did you get a collection like that? I have a fossil fish my husband got me for a birthday - love to know I'm looking something that lived millions of years ago. Kind of puts things in perspective.

message 5890: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments We've now got various appointments tomorrow, Wednesday, Thursday and next Monday.

I'm returning only about half of the clothes I ordered off ASDA last week.
Result.
I've got my outfit for the wedding in a couple weeks sorted.
Result x2.

I've now got time to sit n read for a few hours. Or nap.

Bets on which is gonna happen?

Those fossils sound interesting, Kath. Did you get photos before you donated them?

message 5892: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments We've got photos somewhere. They were collected over many years in the Speeton Clay. We donated a few to Hull Museums some years back but the bulk has gone to Scarborough where our son works. You can keep stuff forever and the danger is that a study collection like that gets thrown when you die. They are about the size of king prawns.

message 5893: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments My fossil fish is in a shadow box. Did you keep one?

I remember Ursula Le Guin mentioned somewhere that she had the skull of a musk ox and something else (a stone age club?) on her desk. Something to connect her solidly to history.

There is a rock shop in New Mexico which I use when I want to give someone a unique present. It sells a lot of junk to tourists, as well, but will send me pictures of fossil fish and sandstone formations (cut in blocks), and ship them to the recipient very carefully padded.

A few things i can already see that i can potential help improve.

I could definitely go for an ice cream right now

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Urgh, another wasted appointment! Ultrasound didn't show anything, and as my bruising, swelling and pain has improved, I got to choose whether I want a steroid injection or not, I said yes, but now got to wait for an appointment. Only consolation is I have a works do on Wed that I couldn't have gone to if he'd done it today. Got home early, but couldn't take advantage of the weather, my neighbours car wasn't back so needed to take her to the osteopath. Car said 30 when I left work, 28 on the way home!

Glad your first day went well Lindsay
