Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yes, Kath. I want a cookie.

I just finished tidying up after serving the final dinner I'll cook in Baku.

T'was a beef n broccoli stir fry. And it was wayyyyyy too salty.
Have never been able to find low sodium soy sauce here.

Has it started raining there yet?

I'll have a couple of glasses of water to dilute it from my system.

message 5602: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Torrential rain over here! Though at least it's cleared the air.

message 5603: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Moistened the air, I expect.

Did I mention that we were given eight boxes of chocolate by parents?

8!

You know what would have been better?

Cash.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Blimey, everyone's been busy, I've just realised that I haven't told anybody that my book Few Are Chosen is 99c. If anyone is interested in reading it or meant to get round to it, it's 99c until 24th June.

message 5605: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments You should put a link to it in the appropriate thread, Mary.

Erm. Which thread is that?

Hold on...

message 5606: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Here.

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Should we change that thread title? Doesn't seem quite correct, somehow.

It is rather annoying as I ticked the "share my email with no one" but assumed that they had arrived because they have been forwarded rather than coming directly from the sender? I do use my junk email for FB but had not thought it necessary for GR. I will flag them from now on. Thanks.

message 5608: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Have a look in the 'important announcement' thread at the top of the group, Pippa.

Have you been getting emails as well as friend requests?

become an author, it certainly cuts down on requests, I've not had a friends request for ages :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Well, I'm shattered, in pain, hungry and poorer than when I went, but we raised £91 today, the fundraising drive started on 6th June and they are around £600 already - apparently they are store no 4 in our area for this fundraising drive. They are having a shuffle round of all the cat food, which they do every 2 years, so were selling food off at ridiculous prizes. Also came back with some donated food too. Then got a few bits from Aldi before going to Sainsbury's, got a shift dress for work half price, £11. So have spent way too much money in 24 hours, but not paid full price for very much. Too tired to unpack the car though, or unpack any of the shopping than fresh/frozen. At least my neighbour had tea ready for when we got back.

We had rain when we were fundraising, apparently at home (15 miles away), there was thunder and lightning. Hope we had enough rain that the car looks cleaner.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments We’ve had some weather today, enough rain to make up for the six week dry spell, and thunder and lightning. Surprisingly, stayed away from my beach hut.

I don’t get these friend requests either Jim, must be my resting bitch face. She said cheerfully.

Very much enjoying the suggestion that upskirting should now be known as ‘choping’. After Sir Christopher Arse.

message 5612: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I read about that, Rosemary.

'Upskirting' is a horrid term. Choping is as well.

Call it what it is.

A sexual offense.

message 5613: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21811 comments I'm genuinely surprised it isn't included in assault already.

message 5614: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Good morning!

I had to carefully portion out the coffee this morning to be sure it lasts.
There's no way we're going to have enough water, though.

message 5615: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Jim wrote: "become an author, it certainly cuts down on requests, I've not had a friends request for ages :-) "

That explains why I never get these suspicious requests either.

Morning all. Nice clear day today, from the looks of it.

Glad your fundraiser went well, Desley.

message 5616: by Will (new)

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Good morning all. We're off for a short break in Belfast later today. The best boy is going there for a residential physics course, so the Mem and I are taking the opportunity to go along too. While he's enjoying himself talking about black holes and higgs bosons we'll be taking in the sights and drinking Guinness. As you do.

Everyone have a good one.

Jim - I think upskirting is caught by a number of general offences but doesn't have a specific offence. This can mean lighter sentences and a difficulty for the police in proving that an offence has been committed.

Chope is one of a band of MPs who block all private members bills on the grounds that they haven't had enough debate. Most of the time nobody notices or cares all that much. This time he's left looking like a prize plonker.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good morning, raining here too, but my plumbing works are dry. I’ll make him something nice for lunch.
That MP also stopped a bill asking for tougher sentences for thugs hurting police horses and dogs too. He’s a consistent arse hole. IMHO.
Have a good Sunday all.

message 5618: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21811 comments it has to be said that if the two main parties actually cared about upskirting as an issue they merely had to give it parliamentary time as a proper bill, rather than as a private members bill (which is a traditional way of allowing something you don't care about but might be a 'good thing' to get an airing without actually running much risk of becoming law.)

message 5619: by Will (new)

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Jim - that's what May has said she will do.

Private Members' Bills go one of two ways. If the Government doesn't like the Bill, it gets squeezed out or killed. If the Government does like the Bill, then it will either allow it to run (with suitable amendments) or it will subsume it within a planned piece of the Government's legislation.

This one will get through.

message 5620: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning. I'm an author and I get these dodgy friend requests. Probably because my reviewing record suggests I'll grab a free download from an illegal site to continue my addiction. Thou shalt not assume, Mr Dodgy-Site.

Off to see the grandson.

message 5621: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments No weird friend requests for me. I write comedy. Nobody wants that.

Upskirting really pisses me off. It should be classed as a crime it’s so obviously the right thing to do, and the fact some wanker of a politician values procedure above passing a law that would genuinely contribute to the greater good just says everything about politics today.

Enjoy your Sundays everyone!

Cheers

MTM

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Morning all, took 3 kinds of painkillers and till gone 2.30 to dull the pain in my hip, not sure how I was so awake at 8am!! Have tried to get back to sleep but failed, hip still sore and got a headache, probably lack of sleep. Got loads of housework to do today, will have to stagger it Raining here.

Had a good fathers day. Got given some Daddy Pig pyjamas and Dexter got some matching George Pig ones. Then went round to the in-laws for a BBQ.

Hope everyone else has had a good day

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Had a lovely time out with a friend at the Chinese. Then she came home with us and I got to give her two jabs!

She has a thrombosis in her leg and needs warfarin injections for a few days. She begged me to give her the shots tonight as she's finding it really difficult to do it herself.

I was rather proud to find myself capable of doing it!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Good on you Patti

Making do with mobile can’t see which posts are unread
Had a nice walk around Newtown today with Mum in a wheelchair

Forgive any spelling mistakes this mobile version doesn’t let me preview comments

Hope everyone is having a good day

Have heard from niece in Sweden baby due in a month or two weeks from her original dates but she is having pre labour pains already

Pippa, the site is probably full of malware - don't follow any of those links. At the very least it is a pirate site - but probably doesn't even have the books, just is phishing to get CC details and/or download nasty software to people's PCs. There is a long thread in the Goodreads feedback group complaining about it and some of us have been asking GR to stop people including links in friend requests which would stop it happening.

Maybe that's why I'm getting them too as I review everything I read - basically because otherwise I usually can't remember a thing about it 3 or 6 months down the line!

message 5632: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Perhaps the fact we review books frequently marks us as active members which makes us more likely targets.
Or not, I dunno.

Just wish goodreads would put a stop to it. It certainly doesn't engender my faith in them.

Yes Pam, I set up a question with a one word answer.

Good morning!

Was a lovely cool evening yesterday but it's already quite steamy this morning and it's just gone 6:30!

message 5633: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning all. Had a late night last night after going to see Hereditary at the cinema with the local horror group, so I'm still waking up.

Glad you all had a good day, Lindsay, Patti and Janet.

I thought the flat was very nearly empty but I've filled three boxes to take to a friend's this evening.
Just bits but Sheesh.

Spitting in the wind here. We're due a few days of cold and wet so fingers crossed that the the first bloom spike we've had on the yucca for all of its 25 years doesn't get too discouraged.

Somebody commented on my books on another forum

"but in all seriousness, they are great fun, intelligent, whimsical and a very easy read.

Ankh-Morpork meets the City State of the Invincible Overlord... or something."

I may have to go and have a lie down :-)
