Clarkesworld & Lightspeed short story records
#563 - changed titles and combined to prepare for mergeEmy - there are just 2 titles here, Corinne got excited and posted Good Boy twice! ;-)
#561 combine done, merge 1 pending#562 combine done, merge 1 pending
#563 combine done by Elizabeth, merge 1 pending
#564 combine and merge done already - did you do this one too?
#565 combine already done, merge now pending.
Think I need to go back and inspect editions on the magazines though because some seems to have a mix of OK and not...
#570 - First appeared in The Starlit Wood: New Fairy Tales, so going to merge it to that one - the URL was added to the record a few months after its creation, so I am not going to assume it was intended as from Uncanny in this case.
#574 Merging down the shorts and then will combine and start the overall merges. The others should be sorted or acceptable - ask if you're not sure why though :)
Fictionwise are former validly published works that are no longer available, as far as I'm aware. I'm up for correction if I'm wrong though.
EDIT: Last one pending for Daniel Abraham, and I've found someone has readded ALL the shorts from Unfettered yet again, so gradually getting rid of them...
Not necessarily more diligent, I just had a source for the anthology so I could check the listings to be sure. I think I'm spending enough time in the short story whack a mole that some names are starting to become Very Familiar... :) And certain anthologies.
To merge: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...with
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
FYI, there are some Italian editions of the story here:

Emy wrote: "Fictionwise are former validly published works that are no longer available, as far as I'm aware."
Correct.
Correct.
Re #576 - AFAIK it's valid if published on the author's site, which this is, and it's not a scan.Fictionwise stories are valid, per Rivka above.
Requeued House Beyond Your Sky - sometimes a merge seems to stall part way. I usually keep them open but my husband helpfully closed all my windows the other night so I lost track, sorry! :)Expanded the details, and all others have identifiers.
Noted. I'm not feeling terribly brainy today, which is why I've not commented so far. Will see how intelligent I feel later ;)
EDIT: NOTE:Per the first post in the thread linked here, member is contacting staff to deal with this issue.
against policy short story, available from author via subscription. (See this post: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...)
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
merged with full novel mentioned in linked blog post as the most likely to receive the merge. Sorry, if that was wrong.
Corinne wrote: "another shot at getting that merge to go through? https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio... See the third from bottom "The House Beyond Your Sky" is still there."
Even weirder, according to the log, it deleted on 4th...
Re-requeued
*done*I am still unclear on the merging process, so if someone else could please look into the following?
Short story added against policy:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
Should be merged into Clarkesworld Magazine, Issue 100
Thanks
Emy wrote: "#599 merge pendingNB Only a Super can merge anything with more than 5 shelvings."
Thank you! (And thanks for the info. Here I thought I was missing something entirely.)
ss added against policy:A.) https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
Belongs to Apex Magazine Issue 99, August 2017
B.) https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
Belongs to The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, May/June 2016
C.) https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
Belongs to Apex Magazine Issue 56
602 ASeparated the Italian translation (true standalone publication) and added links to Apex 99
Merging edition #2 of Welcome! into the main edition then will combine and merge into Apex 99
Corinne wrote: "kk I'll be interested in the outcome still building my librarian knowledge for some reason."I think it might be viewable from the edit page or from the award page. I've not heard back from her so I'm checking now before it gets "fixed"
EDIT: As I tried, it seems that if two awards are identical, it merges it, but if one award is slightly different it remains. This meant we had:
Nebula Award for Best Short Story for "Jackalope Wives" (2014)
World Fantasy Award Nominee for Short Fiction for "Jackalope Wives" (2015)
Coyotl Awards for Best Short Story for "Jackalope Wives" (2014)
WFSA Small Press Short Fiction Award for "Jackalope Wives" (2015)
WSFA Small Press Award for Short Fiction (2015)
Cóyotl Awards for Best Short Story (2015)
I merged the incorrectly named WSFA award, and that deleted it automatically from the record. Using the EDIT link next to the second Cóyotl award, I was able to delete that attribution (wrong year). I then noticed the accent difference, and merged the now empty Cóyotl with Coytotl...
I believe the awards work just as the series do. In any case, the same awards are on the merge target as are on the edition to be merged, so everything should work out OK, but I'll leave a window open so that I can verify when the merge is done.(I've been gone visiting my new great granddaughter ( who is, of course, marvelous!).)
Corinne wrote: "Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: (I've been gone visiting my new great granddaughter ( who is, of course, marvelous!)"How awesome! Just the one? I'm glad you reported in, I was getting worried ;)"
Yes, just the one. She will have all the advantages (and disadvantages?) of being an only child, which includes all the heaps from grandparents (and great grandparents).
Emy & Elizabeth, thank you both for all your work on this. As I've been reading through this thread, I see that there's an established process that I've missed for combining/reporting short-story records for merge; I'll try to do better about that if I run into any more.
But that brings me to a quick question: 602B was merged into a 'preferred anthology' instead of the magazine of first publication. I've checked the manual, but I'm still unclear on how the merge target was chosen. Can I get a clarification
This is my rough order (rough because it's from experience, past comments, and so on, not fully defined policy) in order of most to least preferred:1. Another stand-alone publication of that work in the same language
2. Author's own anthology
3. An anthology in the correct language
4. Literary magazine with ASIN/ISBNs (e.g. Apex)
*new*5. Perfect bound literary magazines (based on recent discussions)
6. Stand-alone publication in the wrong language.
7. Author's anthology in the wrong language
8+. Anthology in the wrong language, etc.
It's fairly unlikely (to vanishingly impossible) to need to merge into a wrong language anthology, but just about possible when the Wrong Language is English.

Working on these now.#619 - Slowly going
#620 - Waiting for first merge before combining for second merge.
#621 - Pending

#623 - First one pending
#624 - Moved to correct profile and merge pending
#625 - Moved and merge pending
Corinne wrote: "re: msg 619 if you see here https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio... there are still two SS that aren't fully merged. do you think it timed out or just needs more time?"Oh, don't worry about that. It just takes a couple of days sometimes to get them all through as you should only queue one at a time. So it goes Queue, Wait, Queue, Wait. Go home. Queue, Wait, and so on :)
I came across this short story from Lightspeed- https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4.... I think this fits the bill for the ongoing deletions/merges?
Corinne wrote: "the merge target for msg 634 https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1..."Thanks, Corinne! :)
Corinne wrote: "Cassandra since your a librarian you are able to prep it for the supers by combining the short with the merge target. I’ve not been given the privileges so I post the story and merge target but can..."Thanks, Corinne, you're right, I suppose I just haven't done these specifically before so I wasn't sure about the merge target. I guess I could take care of that one myself- thanks for letting me know!
ETA: #634 queued for merge :)
Hello! I had a novelette that I created merged with a publication, and I found it confusing, because as stated on the "not a book" page, any short story published online counts as a book. Perhaps a clarification can be made to that list, so there's less confusion? I had to do a fairly thorough search (after I re-added the novelette, and then subsequently deleted my new readd) to find out the difference in policy.See: https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/1...
It was published originally in an anthology called Logorrhea, in Lightspeed, and online on Lightspeed's website under it's own url: http://www.lightspeedmagazine.com/fic... The online url version is the way in which I read it.So it seems it's simultaneously both a book (if you go by the NAB page) and Not A Book (if you go by the Non-Book Items page.)
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If that is the case, then those two help topics need to be merged into one, because it is extremely confusing otherwise. For example, why is TOR publishing separ te short stories online (and then later in anthology) more valid of a publisher and therefore worthy of a separate book record than Lightspeed Magazine?Edit: I don't "care" per se one way or the other, and I'm honestly not trying to make a big deal about it, I'm just trying to get clarification is all. :)
No you're right, it sort of started out as a need for clarification, and then the more I thought about it, the odder and inconsistent it seemed, so I've taken it to that other thread. My apologies for gumming up this thread!
