Clarkesworld & Lightspeed short story records
Other titles in a similar vein:Lightspeed
Uncanny
Magazine
Apex Magazine
Strange Horizons
Crossed Genres Magazine
Nightmare Magazine
Pump Six anthology
Correct. Publication as part of a magazine (online or not) is not separate publication of a short.
OK. I think I'm going to have to make this a project then as there are many many short stories astray from their parent issue.
I checked a few ones and merged a few less ones from the Clarkesworld list.not sure if I'm in the mood to kind of spam the supers thread with it ;) seems like most have to much ratings for me :)
I'm OK with you posting them here once you've got a few together and I can do them, to save clogging up the general Supers thread :) I'll get to a few more soon, but I get sidetracked on working through some authors who seem to accumulate short-stories-from-other-works...
Question then: This magazine, without ASIN/ISBN should not be on GR, even though it has a format of ebook? https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
I'm not sure I should be on this project, but will use it to further my librarian knowledge.
Ones like that are published I think, but usually as Kindle. However if it's no longer being sold it's a bit of a pain to find the ASIN now so I'll usually just leave them if there's not another more legit record...
1. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...2. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
3. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
that one https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... is also published in an own paperback with other short stories by the author herself - in which one should it go then? I would go more with the authors pb I think... which would be https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
but first published would be clarkesworld

Looks like it has a Kindle edition.
Looks like it has a Kindle edition.
If they're in multiple anthologies, I would usually go for the oldest / original unless the blurb indicates that the reader was going for a particular other anthology.Rivka: Sorry, was out walking and didn't check :) In that case, does it count as published online if it's freely available, or should we just merge it to the Kindle?
Well the cover on the cat pictures story indicates the Clarkesworld magazine where it was first published - but I must say I feel a bit sad for the writer (although I understand the logic and it was my first thought) having an own book with it - even with it in title not having the reviews for the story assigned to something that's not that "general".+ what happens with the awards? Do you know if they go automatically to the merge target? or do they vanish? (would be good to copy them before then)
I asked Elizabeth but she wasn't sure either but said she wanted to look at it when it's getting merged.
So perhaps we'll wait with that merge and get that clearer first?
(I'm going to bed now making lots of typing errors so it's time...)
Lachgas: I've tested and awards do seem to go across BUT I usually add something to identify which story before I do the merge (so I don't get the title slightly off).Same with series too - they merge across but it's wise to edit the story title in before the merge.
Rivka: Will do.

Yes, as Emy says, they *should* go across. (What was I thinking with my uncertainty before?) But, award for story within anthology should go to description of anthology. Because those three awards have a short story component, you may run into a lot of these. If you want help, let me know.
Let me see if I've got this right:https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6... (short story, awards fixed to reflect story title)
should be merged with
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... (Clarkesworld April 2017, but originally published in Asimov’s Science Fiction, February 1999.)
OR?
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... (Asimov's Feb 1999 as first published)
If that is correct, then I need to edit the story author so that merge can take place, but I don't want to start off on the wrong foot. (I'll look at the ones that need awards edited first - we'll see from there.)
In principle, I'd suggest Asimov's if it's there (and it is as you've said), Clarkesworld if Asimov's were not there. Assuming the Asimov's entry is OK - I think those count as Literary Magazine and are therefore OK even though they have no ISBN/ASIN.My way to do the pre-merge is:
1. Change author to editor of journal - e.g. Neil Clarke for Clarkesworld and John Joseph Adams for Lightspeed.
2. Amend the title to "Lightspeed #123456 Original Short Story Title"
3. Search for Lightspeed #123456 and combine
Leaving the short story in the title lets me see more quickly which one I'm merging, but your style may vary :)

No problem - and if you come across any similar lists, please do link them and we can expand the project :)
Touring with the Alien to be merged in Clarkesworldhttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
(One of these latter is an audio book, but it has no ID. it has been merged with the magazine. I'll wait until you've seen these before continuing.)
#20 Queued#21 I think this is a valid delete because they're Podcast episodes. Queued this one, but if Rivka disagrees we can add back an audiobook edition for the full (podcast) issue.
#17 I think the Asimovs aren't really ok ... (at least some of them) believe I read that lately in a post from rivka.. (will see if I can find it)edit: if that's the same Asimov ... https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Re: AsmimovsI'm sorry about getting that done, thought it was OK.
So, then I'm assuming that Clarkesworld and Lightspeed are OK for merges, and if see something else/earlier, I will inquire further.
Clarkesworld and Lightspeed both are published and sold as "books" on Amazon (as Kindle), so are definitely OK.
I've know combined the cat pictures with the Clarkesworld issue so all in #9 are combined now.The Cat picture story will need the addition of the awards to the description still. correct?
Lachgas wrote: "I've know combined the cat pictures with the Clarkesworld issue so all in #9 are combined now.The Cat picture story will need the addition of the awards to the description still. correct?"
Please.
is it okay like that https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...there were also 2 other stories with awards which I already listed and combined
also combined, no award
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Lachgas wrote: "I've know combined the cat pictures with the Clarkesworld issue so all in #9 are combined now.The Cat picture story will need the addition of the awards to the description still. correct?"
No, the awards should appear in the awards section.
#9 Fixed remaining awards adding short story to award in awards section and removed awards from the description. Also added awards to Cat Pictures Please and Other Stories.
Is the title of this issue of Clarkesworld correct? I don't see where it was ever Clarkesworld magazine, but I don't think it should be called Cat Pictures Please either.https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

That looks like the merge candidate :)
It's queued but at nearly 1000 adds it'll be a little while before it's gone. I'm heading home shortly, so I'll check it again when I'm in - hopefully I'll be able to queue the next one then!
yepp it's the short story - but at the moment the one with most ratings so it's shown as default.other merge candidates in this issue
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
ok I don't get that award thing so I'll just keep my hands of them
(bet there will be enough without ;) )
Lachgas wrote: "I don't get that award thing"I was planning on looking at all of the ones with awards first. Then we'll see.
This edition without ISBN is the default, but separated with the valid ebook for merge. (Do you have a preference for doing these? Moving the ISBN to the default and merging the lesser shelved edition? Because that edition has only 4 adds, so that I could do it.)https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
Then, can be recombined with the kindle:

Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "If Asimov's is no good, this one can just be deleted.https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2..."
And that is why I really hope that Asmiov's is deemed acceptable. I do not like removing all trace of an item :(
Emy wrote: "Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "And that is why I really hope that Asmiov's is deemed acceptable. "I think some are here with ASINs, so there is hope.
This one:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
does not have the ASIN on the record, but are apparently being reissued
https://smile.amazon.com/Asimovs-Scie...
Is there a reason the ASIN should not be added to the existing record?
I hope Rivka will see we are busy here, or else I could open a new thread with this specific question.
Clarkesworld 55 - The Cartographer Wasps and the Anarchist Bees to mergehttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
As I'm cherry-picking the award winners, am I correct that these will be removed from the list when they get merged (if Clarkesworld)? At that time, the ones remaining will be without awards?
A podcast referenced in the description, I think this just gets deleted.https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...

The Short Fiction of Clarkesworld Magazine.com
Just looking for confirmation that there should only be records for stories when also published separately from Clarkesworld - the web page for the story in a given issue doesn't count as a Goodreads record.
For the record, there are "proper" records for each issue as they were (re)released on Kindle.
