Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence - 2018 Shortlist

The ALA (American Library Association) has announced the shortlist for the Carnegie Medals of Excellence for Fiction and Nonfiction.

I thought that both the longlist for fiction and nonfiction was a strong list and thought it was a near impossible job to name just 3 books for both fiction and nonfiction.

Fiction:
Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders
Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan
Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward

Nonfiction
The Doomsday Machine: Confessions of a Nuclear War Planner by Daniel Ellsberg
Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann
You Don't Have to Say You Love Me by Sherman Alexie

The winners will be announced in early Feb.

The nonfiction choices are spot on. I haven't read the to be released book but the Alexis memoir and Grann book are excellent.
