Man gets lost walking home, ends up in a scary swamp. Finds an Inn where he wants to stay the night. He only has to tell a story to be allowed to stay but he can't come up with anything so they kick him out. There are other guests that tell stories about the disgusting way a girl's favorite ice cream is made and about a guy who dives to the bottom of the sea to rescue his fiance's engagement ring. Out in the swamp, the man meets a group of bandits and has to steal treasure from scary monsters. Towards the end of the book he meets the leader of the group of bandits who wants to keep him prisoner.
