Only librarians and the authors can combine books, wich explains why you couldn't do it.
Please do not hesitate to post here if you have other books to combine.

I changed a book title and would like to update the ASIN to the current title. I also would like to combine the previous book to the new one.
The book in question is "Woodsmen" and now re-titled as "Claimed."

But I see two books titles "Claimed". Should they be merged, or are they different editions?

Hi Melissa
My issue was I can't find "Claimed" on a general search because it's ASIN clashed with "Woodsmen". I would like to update its ASIN, if that is possible, since it has the same one as "Woodsmen."

But I see two books titles "Claimed". Should they be merged, or are they different editions?"

Hi,
What is did was merge the two books called "Claimed". Then combines "Claimed" with "Woodsmen".
At the same time, I deleted the ASIN from "Woodsmen" and gave it to "Claimed".
Is that what you wanted?

Ok, finally managed to set the new one as primary edition.
Thank you so much Melissa. You're a gem!!

(Nothing to do with my original post; I just ran across this because was following thread.)

But if it is not allowed, sorry for the change, and I am ready to change it back.

I'm not official (or even still a librarian) but almost always any moving of isbn/asin information from one work or edition to another needs a very durn good reason other than "well that's the way booksellers currently have it on the product pages and authors get to change their product pages at will" [and reason should be put in a librarians note so the change doesn't get flagged or revoked back and forth although not required].
Librarian usual policies say: A new book title or new book cover is not reason enough to move. An edition no longer being for sale is not reason enough to move (gr has book data pages of all editions unlike bookseller sites that have book product pages of edition currently for sale). A completely wrong the original edition never used it but someone made a typo or the really weird occasions a publisher accidentally duplicated an isbn on two completely different works are good enough reasons to move (but should still have a librarian note so no one questions). Not uncommon that someone tried to shove an isbn13 number in the isbn10 field and last three digits got chopped off and you have to correct (usually indicated by the isbn10 starting with 978) and that's a valid reason for changing.
Most of the discussions about the policy are going to be on the alternate cover edition and "help changing my or I have a new book cover" threads. Ditto in the librarian manual where it talks about new editions and alternate cover editions. It is appropriate to add a librarian note (and to repeat in the book description) that the edition also uses that asin number. And, yes, it does cause issues for the purchase links when not moved but it's not goodreads responsibility that authors fail to obtain new isbn/asin for new editions like they are supposed to.
You might want to start a separate thread asking about moving the asin (in case no one realizes the "add an ebook edition – now been added" discussion has a librarian policy issue) to get a more official or consensus answer.
When bookcovers or asin/isbn info are changed or moved on an edition, you risk vandalizing member book catalogs who already owned/read/shelved the older edition in favor of advertising a product version that goodreads readers might never put in their book catalogs. Some goodreads members could care less which edition they shelve and quite happily shelve whichever edition shows up in search results, on author pages, series info, group BOTM shelves or wherever (and authors, unlike librarians, can choose to set which edition that is —author should see author FAQ #4 for directions if they want to pick which edition is the primary/default/featured). Other members are incredibly picky about specific editions.
The really big issue is just that goodreads database could care less what's for sale or what readers looking to buy will be searching for; it just keeps all editions of all books and members can make use of (think more library than bookstore). Authors or librarians are free to note when an edition is out of print or no longer available and are more than welcome to add their new editions; just usually it's not allowed to "vandalize" the older published editions.

Please do not change or remove valid ISBNs or ASINs on existing editions. The first edition listed in the Goodreads database keeps the ASIN or ISBN. (The very, very rare exceptions should ONLY be made by Goodreads staff members.)
