PattyMacDotComma Something Happened in Our Town: A Child's Story about Racial Injustice by Marianne Celano and others is a new children's picture book to read WITH them about cops shooting blacks, slave history, and intolerance of foreigners. It's sad to think this is needed.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1415 comments I read Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. It's about a post-apocalypse world. It's not the type of novel I normally read, but it came highly recommended. So I gave it a try.

I thought it was fantastic. I loved the structure and the way the author weaves all the disparate threads together to create a vibrant tapestry.

This week end I've finished two books thatm even if not particularly long, were complex and that I've liked a great deal.
The first was Elizabeth Jane Howard   After Julius - that I unluckly I found only in Italian, and the second was Fernando Aramburu Anni lenti , sort of parallel of Homeland, one of my best read of last year.

I'm on hold for it in the library. Probably won't get my hands on it for a couple of weeks. It sounds like it is well worth the wait.

PattyMacDotComma I really enjoyed both of these! This clever Czech detective has an appetite and wardrobe and disregard for protocol like Mick Herron's Jackson Lamb without the farts. Loved and understood (!) the Eastern European intrigue.
Graham Brack,s first two in the series:

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1415 comments Finished Hotel Silence by Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir.

A quiet, subtle, and tender book by an Icelandic author who somehow manages to capture the poignancy and poetry of life in sparse, understated writing. It's quite amazing.
