In what was perhaps an unconscience reaction to my recent reading of so much science fiction set in the future, I am now reading 2 Victorian novels: Uncle Silas by J. Sheridan Le Fanu (listening to the LibriVox audiobook Version 2) and The Bertrams by Anthony Trollope on my Kindle.I am having a hard time trying to classify Uncle Silas. I suppose I should just stop trying and enjoy the book but I am so accustomed now to using multiple tags for my books that it feels wrong not to be able to pick more than one for this book. I have provisionally tagged it as 'mystery' as I saw in one of the reviews that it had a locked room mystery in it -- if it does, I haven't gotten to it yet! The Guardian newspaper's list of 1000 novels everyone should read put this book in 'science fiction and fantasy' but that seems quite inappropriate. So far, it is a Gothic horror story similar to The Mysteries of Udolpho - by that, I mean that the heroine is a very nervous & imaginative young girl and there are some menacing circumstances which may or may not be truly menacing but are certainly of this world.
About to start
The Companion by Kim Taylor Blakemore after finishing
The Other You by J.S. Monroe which totally creeped me out. My spoiler free review can be found at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

LauraT wrote: "I remember listening to it right from the same place; nice book ..."I have finally heard the details of the locked room murder/suicide and Maud has just moved in with her Uncle Silas. I'm pleased to see you thought it was a nice book because I was beginning to wonder if it was going to be an annoying book! I am enjoying the LibriVox narrator.
About to begin reading
The Man She Married by Alison James after finishing the very disappointing
The Companion by Kim Taylor Blakemore. My spoiler free review can be found at my webpage https://wordpress.com/post/sandysbook... and https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I have started Murder is Binding by Lorna Barrett. This first book in her Booktown series was written in 2009, so I am a latecomer. It'll be fun reading and catching up.

I started listening to the audiobook of The Radical King today in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I am about halfway through - so far, the parts written by Cornel West are far less interesting than the parts that are directly from King's sermons, speeches and essays! I am once again reminded why King is such a role model for people of all races and ages.
Leslie, the does look interesting. The book blurb says it shows the King was every bit as radical as Malcolm X. I don’t know much about Malcolm X - should I read about him first?
I don't know much about Malcolm X either & I don't think it is necessary in order to understand this book. King's radicalism is explained both by West, in introductory commentary, and by King himself in his essays.

I am listening to the audiobook of Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb. I am enjoying this fantasy very much so far!
I'm listening to As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride, and am reading Moon Tiger, Phineas Redux, Accidence Will Happen: A Recovering Pedant's Guide to English Language and Style and I think one or two others.

I'm reading Edward Adrift by Craig Lancaster. This is the 2nd book in the Craig Lancaster's Edward series. The series's hero is autistic Edward Stanton.
Karin wrote: "I'm listening to As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride, and am reading Moon Tiger, Phineas Redux ..."Are you reading the Palliser series? Trollope is one of my favorite Victorian authors; I liked the Palliser books but think that the Barchester series is better (though my mother and I disagreed about that).
Nichole wrote: "I'm reading Edward Adrift by Craig Lancaster. This is the 2nd book in the Craig Lancaster's Edward series. What is the difference between a narrator, a main character and a hero?
