suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments And back to my own personal favourite topic ;o> ...

https://www.independent.co.uk/life-st...

"Whether you prefer a cupcake, multi-layered slice or traybake, cake is undeniably a crucial part of British culture. From a classic victoria sponge to American imports like brownies, we’re spoiled for choice when it comes to ways to indulge our sweet teeth. But which is the nation’s favourite treat?

A new study has found that the most popular cake flavour in the UK is in fact lemon drizzle. The zesty treat is the most-loved cake of 40 per cent of Brits, according to the poll of 2,000 people by Protein World.

In a close second place came chocolate fudge cake (38 per cent), followed by carrot cake in third (37 per cent). Chocolate brownies took fourth position, with the British teatime staple victoria sponge cake coming in fifth.

The UK’s favourite cakes :

1. Lemon drizzle, 40 per cent
2. Chocolate fudge cake, 38 per cent
3. Carrot cake, 37 per cent
4. Chocolate brownie, 36 per cent
5. Victoria sponge, 35 per cent
6. Chocolate muffin, 31 per cent
7. Sticky toffee pudding, 29 per cent
8. Coffee and walnut cake, 28 per cent
9. Black forest gate, 26 per cent
10. Blueberry muffin, 26 per cent
11. Fruit cake, 25 per cent
12. Swiss roll, 23 per cent
13. Battenburg, 19 per cent
14. Madeira cake, 18 per cent
15. Fairy cakes, 18 per cent
16. Angel cakes, 18 per cent
17. Butterfly cakes, 17 per cent
18. Chelsea bun, 16 per cent
19. Red velvet, 15 per cent
20. Date and walnut loaf, 12 per cent

Peculiarly absent from the list are banana bread, cheesecake and cupcakes though. The research also found that Brits love cake so much that as many as 55 per cent of us would choose a slice of cake over sex, with women more likely to do so than men (73 per cent).

The average Brit eats three slices of cake a week and bakes an impressive four times a month. In true British fashion, 77 per cent of people agree that “there's not much that can't be sorted with a cup of tea and slice of cake.”

Same here, and almost all of our Trees are still very much all in their greenery too - but our two Acers have turned Scarlet in this last week and so that means that Autumn is definitely here now ;o>

message 2028: by [deleted user] (new)

Half the leaves on one of the trees in our back garden have turned a dark red/scarlet colour and will probably be falling off soon, giving the Sparrows nowhere to hide :)

It's hard to believe that we are almost into October, given the weather round here. Temperatures this week have been into the mid twenties and we haven't had much in the way of rain either. Nighttime temperatures are getting cooler, but that has been due to clear night skies and gave some wonderful views of the stars and the full moon. The weather for the coming week is supposed to be warm, with temperatures predicted to be mid to high teens all week, cloudy on alternate days but no rain until Friday.

At the moment, our grass is still being mowed once a week as it is still growing fast. Mrs Grizzly seems to have taken over mowing duties - she started doing it while I was recuperating and has just carried on doing it. Earlier in the week, she said that she was going to get the laundry in, but was gone for ages. Wondering what was keeping her, I went to have a look and there she was, in her pyjamas, gardening gloves and my flip flops, mowing the grass :),

Martin O' | 2196 comments A sharp drop in temperature is forecast from tomorrow with a waft of Arctic air about to push it's way across the country despite it remaining fairly bright and sunny. According to latest estimates seasons move in a south west to north east trajectory across Britain at approximately 1.9 mph, around forty five miles a day. Records indicate that this speed has increased from 1.2 mph since 1890, most probably due to global warming however other factors can also have an affect on a yearly basis. For instance this year has seen some unusual weather from the severe cold snap in March and April to the long hot summer of the last few months but such abberations are a normal feature of our climate.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments OMG!!! - I love it! - HA HA HA HA HA!!! ;o>

Thank you, Lez Lee ... x ... I'm apparently very hard to buy for as I am quite unmaterialistic in my nature and I'm also used to being self-sufficient and independent due to staying single and just buying anything that I need for myself.

I've always been the one in our family who enjoys 'people-watching' and getting to know folk well, and then often spending months in researching, resourcing, planning, booking and paying for special gifts or treats - however the downside of this, very sadly for me, means that I rarely ever get treated or get to open any presents myself ;o<

M&D usually just go for the safe and easy option and give me a Cheque or Cash for every occasion - and, without ever wanting to sound at all ungrateful in any way, my Heart simply sinks at the sight of only just a couple of Cards these days - with one of them having some money in it. I so miss the thrill of gift opening.

Seriously? - anyone could just wrap me up a bag of Toffees or some Milk Chocolate Brazils from Poundland in a bit of wrapping paper and I'd be such a happy bunny just for having something to enjoy getting to unwrap - LOL!!! ;o>

So, I'm going to be buying this Book for myself now (with absolutely no peeking inside on it's arrival!) and I'll be giving it to M&D so that they can wrap it up and give to me as something fun for Christmas ;o>

EDIT : it has some very good Ratings and Reviews on here as well ;o> ...

Have you tried sometimes making it up with some Thick Cut Marmalade as well and a little extra Orange Zest, Duke? ... it is seriously yummy! One of my God-daughters doesn't like Dried Fruit so I've made it up with Chocolate Chips for her - and, a few Easters ago now, I used a left-over Terrys Dark Chocolate Orange which also worked well ;o>

Have you tried..."

That's exactly what I used! So simple to make...just 4 thick cut marmalade sandwiches, buttered on the outside too & crusts cut off...place in the first two in the oven dish, sprinkle sugar, sultanas & lemon (or orange zest) on top, then the other two sandwiches on top. 1 & half pint of milk, two eggs & a good helping of nutmeg, whip up, & pour on the sandwiches..and a final sprinkling of sugar, sultanas and zest.

Stick in the oven @ 160C for 35-40 mins...and watch that baby rise! :)

Never thought to ever use choclate in it though..sounds a wee bit sickly for my liking...but interesting twist on the recipe.
