This is my perfect book! It combines my love of baking, as it is a recipe book, and my love of reading classics, as each recipe is inspired by literature.
I recommend this for bakers who also love to read. I received this as a gift from my parents, who bought it from Chatsworth house (aka Pemberley in the Pride and Prejudice 2005 film).
As I'm currently taking A Level English Literature exams I might bake the ones that feature in my exams (Waiting for Gateau + Eton Mess of the D'urbervilles) to celebrate them finishing.
(Disclaimer: I haven't actually baked any recipes yet, as I only received this yesterday, but the literary references are fabulous and the cakes/desserts sound delicious!)
3 stars for a very punny, very delightful volume of recipes. It was given to me as a thoughtful gift by my dearest friend AnnaJoy, and it’s very charming overall. It’s full of references to the classics, and even if you haven’t read the books or plays or work that they reference, you’ll probably still understand it enough based on the capitalize name or having seen or heard other cultural adaptations.
A lovely book for any literary and cooking enthusiast. This cookbook makes a unique little gift and has a wide variety of recipes, a welcome twist to the world of cooking!
A book that combines my two loves, desserts and books. Each recipe is inspired by a book and have witty titles and descriptions that fit in the theme. Among some favorites are The Hound of the (Baked) Alaska-villes, Banana Karenina, and Tart of Darkness. I mean how cute is that. Makes a great gift for lit and dessert lovers alike.
This book is amazing because all the recipes have a literary twist! A coupled of my favourites are "Harry Potter & the Philosopher's Streusel" and "The Picture of Dorian Soufflé" but everything sounds amazing because it combines food and books!
