suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Dad keeps on moaning that he only wants some Beans on Toast for Tea?!! ;oO

He WILL be having his favourite Chinese Takeaway which WILL be followed up by a choice of either Waitrose Tarte Aux Fruits, Farmhouse Fare Sticky Toffee Pudding, Bramley Apple Pie or Ginger Cake - served with Waitrose Cornish Ice Cream and/or Birds Custard!

And there WILL also be lit Candles and Sparklers decorating his Dessert!!! ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Does anyone else on here understand what all of these 'Black Friday in July' and 'Payday Deals Flash Discounts' are all about online today?

I've come across several Sites quoting these reasons for having a 24 Hour Sale and have managed to save myself quite a bit of money on some essential household buys - but I do wish that I could work them out in advance on my Calendar instead of often finding them out completely by accident ... and after I've already bought a few things this week that I could easily have waited a week or two more on and then saved even more money on them by buying them all in the Sales today as well.

message 5403: by [deleted user] (new)

Just another way of trying to get people to spend their money as soon as they've got it, in my cynical view. On a par with 'manager's special', 'last chance to buy', 'clearance' and so on that you see in stores.

Ohhh, I get that ... it's just if I knew a week or so in advance then I could potentially save so much more by waiting for the Websites I often use to have such Sales.

I nearly bought several rather expensive (but SO worth every last penny and then-some) bits of Bedding off 'Soak & Sleep' just the other day for the new Bed that we have just bought for the Spare Bedroom - but I was so tired and it was getting far too late in the day and so I decided to leave them in my Basket and come back to them in a day or two.

4 of the 8 items were on offer at between 10 to 15% off but it was still going to cost me an eye-watering amount all the same. However, I went back to my Basket today and found all 8 of my Items were now showing up as 10 to 15% off and their total cost allowed me to claim an extra 25% off because today is 'Black Friday in July' ... !

Needless to say I bought them all as quickly as I could before they ran out of stock - which everything that I have bought now is.

I vaguely remember coming across 'Black Friday in July' for the first time last year and so I'm wondering which day it might be next year? ... is it always on the last Friday in July? ... Hmmm, I shall have to go Google it now - LOL!!!

With the last Friday of the month being payday for a lot of people, I reckon that's a fairly safe guess.

As for putting a party hat on your dad, I'll add that to my 'to do' list, right underneath getting that new collar onto Phoebe. Even though she is sluggish in this heat, I still haven't managed to get the job done yet! :)

Mrs Grizzly is such a scatterbrain at times;
On Tuesday, when I got home from work, I noticed her car was parked at an angle to the kerb (not on the pavement) so when I got indoors I asked her if she had parked her car or just abandoned it. She said that she had parked in a hurry and was just about to go out and straighten it up, as soon as she found her car keys.
Looking back out of the window, I noticed that her car wasn't even locked (mirrors not folded in) and made comment on this too. Mrs Grizzly never said a word, instead rushing out of the house - it turned out that, having been out in the morning, she had come back home and left her car not only unlocked, but with the keys in the ignition for about seven hours! On top of that, she had also been out again with her son in his car, and still not realised what she had done until I tried teasing her about her parking!

We must live in a nice area :)

Ignore Amazon....they're killing the retail business everywhere. I've stopped buying from them. I saw on the business news last night, that Amazon were disappointed that they didn't reach their predicted quarterly profit margin target.....and yet...they still gained 20% over the previous quarter! That's 2 billion squids in their bank account...for 3 months 'work'! F&@k me sideways!

Who does that today??!! Only bloody Amazon!

Amazon is soo powerful now..they can actually afford to mass dump stock on their site, at dirt cheap prices..and kill off their competitors for good....they're that capable now. Something needs to be done to halt their plans to wipe out the global retail industry for good...they can do it, if nobody stops them.

And the only reason they didn't reach their target, tis cos of the heavy investment they've been putting in for this guaranteed one day delivery service for Prime members.

Have we..as consumers....become so impatient..that we can't even be able to wait a couple of days for an item to arrive?

This world is going to the dogs. At this rate, we'll want an item at our doorstep, before we've even thought of wanting to buy it!

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments It's SO very sad, isn't it Duke?

My Dad has never been a particularly happy man and he doesn't ever seem appreciate just how incredibly lucky and blessed he is to still be here and with family who still care about and take care of him. He's been pretty 'orrible to me and my Mum all day long - but nevertheless we have still gone all out to give him a proper and a happy Birthday all the same.

Never has two VERY VERY large Port & Lemons been SO badly needed by two worn-down and worn-out women as the ones that we are sat enjoying drinking out here on the Patio right now while Grumpy is sat indoors snoring loudly in front of the TV! - LOL!!! ;o>

Dad was 'playing' around inside the new Car-that-has-never-been-driven yesterday morning - and I've ended up in spending the best part of almost three hours today in mopping and cleaning up all of the Water inside it ... because he left the Sun Roof wide open afterwards and it has rained heavily several times since then!

Tis a shame he's like that..i wonder why?

I try these days, to be more optimistic as i get older. In the past...i did use to pick faults with myself & over analyse my short-comings, as the once ever self critictising pesimist that i was, that i wasted my youth on.

These days...i've more or less accepted that i am what i am, not perfect by any measure & perhaps that i'm not destined to follow the typical path in life, that most tend to; i'll never be a dad..and probably won't ever get married..so be it.

But i do try to appreciate what i do have..while i've still got it! :)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments It all felt very weird for us for a while after his major Stroke - his whole personality changed and he became really loving and caring and so full of gratitude just to be alive. The slightest thing would suddenly cause him to get overwhelmed and over-emotional and burst into tears ... but over that year the Brain Damage became more and more obvious and he gradually turned back in on himself again and he is now even more challenging and miserable than he ever was before.

Some things and some people improve with age and life-changing near-death experiences ... and some don't. My Dad has sadly gone from a glass half-full to a completely empty glass kind of a person - despite me and my Mum constantly making sure that his glass is always kept filled to the top at all times.

He's had a really great Birthday despite all his best efforts to opt out of it all - LOL!!! ;o>

Lez | 7490 comments I never got on with my dad. He was in India with the RAF from 1942 (I was 2) till 1945 so missed my formative years - walking, talking, starting school. I think he always resented not being there which was understandable. I think this happened with a lot of children at that time. It was great when my sister was born in '46 - I was the opposite of jealous, just delighted to have his attention diverted!
I always felt sorry for my mum who was usually on my side in all the rows but couldn't be seen to be disloyal to my dad. My sis at 6 years younger usually didn't know what was going on but she's told me since that she never forgave my dad for the way he treated me.
Anyway after never a day's illness in his life, as soon as he retired he developed very high blood pressure and started having TIAs (mini strokes) which had the effect of making him almost mellow and he started hugging people which I found really hard to cope with!
He died aged 76 , not that old really. My mum made it to 96.

At 6 o'clock this morning it was absolutely tipping down here, so I had my breakfast indoors :)

It was only just spitting down here at around 6am and so wonderfully cool and refreshing with it. I opened up the French Windows to air the House and sat just outside, under the Table & Chair Set Umbrella all by myself, as the Girls weren't interested in joining me and had already toddled off back to their Beds for a lovely long lie-in ;o>
