The missing words!!!!!!!!! I hate using the app, I can't even read what people are saying. Also the links for books often don't show up if they are used.

Sarah Mcfarland (sarah_reads_a_lot) For week 16: the narrative nonfiction, would The Secret Holocaust Diaries: the untold story of Nonna Bannister work?

message 103: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
Sarah, it looks like it would based on the reviews.

message 104: by Lexi (new)

Lexi (readinglush) | 3 comments For #18, location in the title, is that a place, ie London, Paris, New York? Or can this be like Garden, Woods, Circus, Beach?

message 105: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
I’m using any location (I’m possibly using Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil)! I think it’s up to your interpretation.

message 106: by Zaz (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments Lexi > you can use both (a city, a place, a planet, etc).

message 107: by Shelley (new)

Shelley | 423 comments I'm going with First Grave on the Right. I mean, technically you can't get a much more specific location than that.

message 108: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 7 comments How/where did everyone create their post? I can't seem to figure it out. It isn't like the other Goodread challenges where everyone post under one prompt.

message 109: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments You'll find all the info on the first post of this topic!

Andrea | 456 comments I love this list and cannot wait to start preparing my reading goals.

What is everyone choosing for #4?

Hey Nicole! If you look at the 2018 Topics discussion thread, they have threads for each prompt, and you can see what everyone is reading! (Also, I have no idea what I'm reading for any of the elements, because they are tough!)

message 113: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Drake | 107 comments Can you help me find the threads? This is the first time I have ever used Goodreads for anything other than tracking what books I am currently reading.

Nicole, the bookshelf has also been updated for the year. If you click bookshelf on the right, then you can see the shelves for each week. All the books mentioned in either the weekly topics or A-Z have been added to each shelf.

message 115: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Drake | 107 comments Awesome! Thank you Laura! I don't feel like Goodreads has the friendliest of platforms so I super appreciate your help!

Sorry, we posted at about the same time so I missed your follow-up.

The group home page lists the topics, as Sophie said. The group is basically broken down into plans, weekly topic threads, and A-Z Folders. The plans are individual for each member so you can copy and paste the list (page 1 of this topic) into a new thread ('new topic' at top) to create your own personal plan. Then the "weekly topics" section has a discussion for each week where people list their choices or ask for help finding a book. Finally, the A-Z section is where people discuss specific books. So each section is simply "A", "B", etc. based on title of book.

There are other activities throughout the group but I'm sure you'll figure those out as you go along.

message 118: by R.K. (new)

R.K. Gold | 3 comments Is this list in order of topics to do for a given week or is it more of a checklist to tick off in whatever order you like

message 119: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
R.K., it's totally up to you and how you want to approach the challenge. I personally am a mood reader so I use it as a checklist. Others like the added challenge of reading in order.

There are two conversations right now for both options:
In order - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Random - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

readwatchrelax (readwatchrelax) i think someone already asked this, but can we go randomly without following the weeks.

Zaz | 2969 comments Yes, it's written in the 1st post of the topic :)

message 123: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Drake | 107 comments I don’t understand the purpose of the A-Z folder. Can you please explain why I need to put my book in one of those folders?

message 124: by Bryony (new)

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments Nicole wrote: "I don’t understand the purpose of the A-Z folder. Can you please explain why I need to put my book in one of those folders?"

The A-Z folders are where you can talk about the books you’ve read, or are planning to read, with other members of the group. As people might read a book for different categories this helps keep discussion about a book in one place so people can easily find it and join the discussion.

message 125: by Ted (new)

Ted (teddym) Can you read in less than 52 weeks or are you limited to one book entry per week?

message 126: by Bryony (new)

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments Ted wrote: "Can you read in less than 52 weeks or are you limited to one book entry per week?"

The original idea was one book per week but if you prefer you’re welcome to read more than one book each week and complete the challenge in less than 52 weeks.

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments Sheri Peters wrote: "Any ideas for number 39 and 43?? I think i have the rest mapped out..."

Sheri, if you go to the weekly posts for those topics, on the right hand side of the screen should be a list with all of the books people have chosen and linked to for those categories. You might get some inspiration there :-)

For #39 https://www.goodreads.com/topic/menti...

For#43
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/menti...

There are also links at the beginning of each topic for ideas.

Good luck :-)

message 128: by Lizzy (new)

Lizzy | 907 comments Tracy, I’ve been doing this for almost a year now, and never noticed the mentions list on the right of the page. LOL. Thanks for the tip.

message 129: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments You’re welcome 😊. I forget how I figured it out but it’s useful sometimes or even an easy way to see what people are choosing without having to read through a million posts ( even though I’m constantly on GR and read all the posts lol)

message 131: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
Melanie, that might be better suited for the weekly topic threads :)

message 132: by Heather (new)

Heather | 236 comments Would you consider week 15 a graphic novel to count?

message 133: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
If you want to be strict about it, I would say no, since graphic novels are a whole genre on their own. That being said, I used a graphic novel, because I never read graphic novels, so it was unique for my reading. I think it’s really your call as to what is unique for you.

message 134: by Heather (new)

Heather | 236 comments Awesome thanks!

message 135: by Maureen (new)

Maureen | 4 comments Okay, I just joined the group and am getting set up/started. So, my apologies if this is kind of a "duh" question: do you go along as a group? ie. Generally everyone reads topic one week one and discusses their choices together? (I have no idea how meaningful conversation would occur, but I imagine it could be possible.) Or is it really just for accountability with others?

message 136: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments Welcome to our group Maureen! 😊

Some of us read in order, some of us read out if order, but for me at least the best part of this group is that we cheer each other on. We discuss our books mostly in the A-Z folders, that way it doesn’t matter what prompt you’re reading the book for. There are also the weekly threads for each prompt, which are great to get ideas for what to read.

Hey Maureen!

If you want some insight into how it works for me, I typically finish a book, go to the A-Z folders to discuss it with other people who have read it, then go to the weekly prompts to talk about how it worked for the prompt I chose (I'm reading out of order, so I choose my prompts after I read the book).

I also update my Plan (in the plans folder), which is not necessary if you aren't a planner. And I add my book to our group spreadsheet! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

message 138: by Maureen (new)

Maureen | 4 comments Ah, okay. Much simpler than in my head. Makes waaaay more sense too!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! It looks like I have a bit of catching up to do :)

message 139: by Maureen (new)

Maureen | 4 comments Agh! Sorry, I didn't see Emily's response before I commented. Can I just add my name to the end of the spreadsheet? It looks like it will be really helpful in keeping organized.

Also, if the book doesn't have an A-Z discussion folder, can members add a new one?

Thanks for the help!!!

Yes! Just go to the end of the spreadsheet and add your name and your books to the first blank column. The numbers and percentages will update automatically once you add them!

message 141: by Maureen (new)

Maureen | 4 comments Thanks! So excited to get started on this!!!

message 142: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments Yep, we can add threads to A-Z if the book isn’t already there. 😊 We just need to make sure the title follows the “Title, by Author” format.

I hope you love it here!

message 143: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
It's also helpful to link the book by entering it in the 'this topic is about' box. Just enter the title and click on the appropriate book from the drop down. That is useful since it links the book to the thread and displays each commenter's rating of the linked book.

Hi Perri!
I haven't read a book for this prompt yet, but my selected options are "The Air Trust" by George Allan England or "Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer. Maybe one of those would interest you?

Perri | 886 comments Really liked Into This Air and also read When Breathe Becomes Air. Never heard of The Air Trust, I'll have to check it out, Thanks Breann!
