SOLVED. Book, at the beginning a girl and boy both die because of an explosion, he goes to hell but she is stuck in purgatory so they send her back as a ghost to help and old guy and if she suceeds she goes to heaven? [s]

The girl and guy die from an explosion, think its a petrol tank. he goes to hell, think he comes back as some weird dog hybrid thing i cant remember. She is stuck in purgatory and they cant decide whether she should go to hell or heaven. So shes sent back to earth as a ghost to help an old man and if she suceeds she goes to heaven. The guy from the beginning is also sent back to earth to try and ruin her chance and make her go to hell, cant remember why though. Thats all i can remember ! :)
