Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Half-Point Progress Report
1) How many books have you been reading? Have you finished any? Are you on track with respect to your readathon goals so far?
I've only been reading from one book so far and I haven't finished it.
2) Have you eaten real food today? (Not just junk food, ACTUAL HEALTHY FOOD) What was your favorite food or beverage so far?
I haven't eaten anything *during* the readathon yet since supper was before and I got up at 10am so I've just had coffee. About to have a bowl of Frosted Mini Wheats though.
3) Are you growing sleepy? Do you plan to nap, or stop early, or are you extending the readathon hours to include sleep?
Bastien slept 10pm-6:30am and I read until 11ish. Fed Bastien and took him into bed with us and he slept for a little bit. Rick got up at 8:30am with Bastien and I slept till 10! Much happy.
4) 5 senses check-in- What are you seeing, hearing, tasting, touching and smelling now?
Seeing-Computer screen and sunshine
Hearing-Bastien babbling
Tasting-Coffee.
Touching-The keyboard and mouse. And coffee mug!
Smelling-Coffee
5) How is your readathon going, overall?
I'm mostly enjoying my book and hoping to get some more "me-time" today.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Good morning post-Dewey's! I'm doing 24-in-48! I took a break last night after Dewey's officially ended and watched a couple of episodes of MasterChef Season 10. I now just have the finale to watch tonight after 8pm. lol. So I'll have 2 wrap-ups, one for Dewey's and one for extended.

I'm now reading Life’s Too Short (The Friend Zone, #3) by Abby Jimenez and listening to Vacationland True Stories from Painful Beaches by John Hodgman .

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Closing Survey
1) How many books did you read during this readathon? Did you have any favorites?
Two. No favorites.
2) How many books did you finish?
Two.
3) Did you accomplish your goals for this readathon?
Yes because I had no goals!
4) How did your snacks and meals work out? Are there things you would change about the food and beverages side of your readathon for next time?
Hey, I had breakfast, French fries for lunch, an early supper, and ice cream. So, yes, they worked out great. 🤣 Next time, drink more water. I drank a lot of Arizona tea - sweet and unsweetened mixed.
5) Did you enjoy this readathon? What was the most successful part of your readathon? What would you change for next time?
I always enjoy it! I'm pleased with my amount of reading. I'll hopefully get more sleep beforehand next time.
6) Will you be continuing your readathon reading past the end of our official readathon?
Yes, I will be doing 24-in-48!

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments I did read 2 more books for my extended 24-in-48 readathon:
Life’s Too Short (The Friend Zone, #3) by Abby Jimenez (369 pgs) Vacationland True Stories from Painful Beaches by John Hodgman (267 pgs)
I read for a total of 23:33! So darn close! But we went to the lake with my SIL and niece and nephew on Sunday afternoon so it was time well spent.

message 1216: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 451 comments Nicely done Elyse. I am half way through the first Friend Zone, but had to return it to the library (too many people also want to read it, darn them). I'm guessing you enjoyed them since you read the next couple. I am about halfway through the book and am a little on the fence about it.

I didn't participate in the readathon this time. My family had a reunion and it just wasn't going to work. But I hope to "see" you all in October!

I thought The Friend Zone was the worst of the 3 actually. And I had been told that by my SIL so that's why I kept going. lol. I didn't love any of them but the second 2 were better than the 1st. They're all on KU if you have it.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Helllllo everyone! I am not prepared for Saturday. lol. And Bastien was invited to his first birthday party and that falls on Saturday, naturally. It's my former boss's daughter's 1st birthday. An hour and 10 minutes away. So that takes a good chunk of my reading time away! If my husband was not going with us, I would definitely be listening to an audiobook on the drive but since he is going, that's rude. lol.

Speaking of Bastien, my boy is 9 months old now! He crawls but like a walrus, mostly using his upper body. It's pretty funny. He's pulling himself up onto his knees and has once pulled himself up onto his feet! He says mamamamama and dadadada and even said Ezzy last weekend (the dog is Ezri). You can see his antics on my Instagram story highlights http://www.instagram.com/winesaboutbooks though I do cover his face. Sleep is a struggle. He has five teeth already and THREE more are coming in at once right now so that's part of the problem. Plus the general 9-month sleep regression I've heard about.

We've added another baby/parent group to our schedule so Mondays we do Moms Club and Tuesdays we do Baby & Me. It's so fun to see how the babies interact, ages from weeks old to 13 months, steal each other's toys, crawl over the immobile young'uns, while the adults commiserate with each other. lol. So good for Bastien and also good for introverted me. lol

TBR and food stuffs to come tomorrow if Bastien gives me some time. He's a busy boy!! I've got a lot out from Libby and Hoopla so those will be the focuses. Either both e-book and audio or audios of physical books I own. I've learned to get all the formats possible to get through books these days! lol.

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Good to have you join us even though you also have a birthday party to go to.
Join the club, I’m totally not prepared either!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1444 comments Aw the updates with Bastien sound precious. That's a lot of teeth coming in at once! The walrus crawl sounds adorable and sounds lke you have joined some nice clubs - or support groups? - unsure, maybe both! :) The birthparty DOES sound busy but hope you get some time in - otherwise there's always next time. hard to believe he's 9 months already!

message 1224: by Susan (new)

message 1228: by Susan (new)

Susan | 678 comments Something I do when I’m going to be in the car with others is keep an ear bud in one ear to listen to the audiobook. The other ear remains open to engage in conversation. Usually there are times in the car when no one is talking and I listen to my audiobook via the ear bud.

message 1229: by Vavita (new)

Vavita | 159 comments So sweet! My son never did the normal either. He went from what you call the walrus to walking. Keep an eye on him. They change from one way of moving to the other in a second!

New Hampshire.
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
Finishing The Pumpkin Spice Café.
3) Which snacks are you most looking forward to?
Caramel M&M's.
4) Is this your first Dewey's Readathon?
Not even close!
5) What are your goals for this readathon?
To enjoy my reading instead of reading as many pages as possible.
6) Which book are you starting with for this readathon?
Bone White.
7) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I have a 9-month-old busy boy so my hands are very full every day as I'm a stay-at-home mom. He's getting to be so much fun!

TBR
Finish The Pumpkin Spice Café (Dream Harbor, #1) by Laurie Gilmore (e-book) (66% through)
Bone White by Ronald Malfi (audio/e-book)
The God of the Woods by Liz Moore (hardcover/audio)
Mirror, Mirror (Creepers, #10) by Edgar J. Hyde (paperback)
Doctor Death (Creepers, #9) by Edgar J. Hyde (paperback)
A Stephen King shorty, maybe a re-read, will update when I go upstairs to my library and pick one out lol. I HAVE to include a King during Kingtober Dewey's! Especially when all I've read for Kingtober is Fairy Tale! But it was a biggun. EDIT: I've gone with a re-read of Elevation by Stephen King.

Funny, I created a Dewey's thread in my personal challenges Goodreads group back in August of my TBR and now that we're here, nope that's not going to happen! lol. It's all good, we are ever-changing!

Oh I definitely have been that kind of competitive in the past. lol. But in my old age and momhood lol, I'm like meh, I will take my time because I don't know how much I'll get with Bastien being a troublemaker. lol

I picked out the book “Misery” by Stephen King for this 24 hr readathon but I put it at the end of my TBR pile in hopes that it will give me motivation to read more to get to it lol!!

Also…… I’ve never read a single Stephen King book in my life up until this point, so I’m sure that I’m in for some good reading.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments I forgot to mention that Bastien woke up at 6:15 this morning and decided he didn't want to go back to sleep (usually I can get another 2 or 3 hours of out him if I take him into bed with us) so we've all been up for a long time today. lol. The birthday party was had. Bastien had a blast and napped on the way there and the way home. We got BBQ pulled pork pizza on the way home and now Rick has D&D downstairs and I have Bastien. He's currently enraptured with a Switch controller so I'm going to try and finish The Pumpkin Spice Café (Dream Harbor, #1) by Laurie Gilmore ! I did take Susan's tip and had an earbud in during the drives and that coupled with a slow-voiced narrator caused me to listen to all of Bone White by Ronald Malfi today at 2x speed. Needless to say, when Bastien goes to bed, I will not be very far behind him. I don't think I have it in me to stay up later. lol
