Yeah, a good nights sleep is important for me too.
So how did you do overall? I read for more hours than usual but managed less pages.... :(

I did the same thing! I only got about 6 hours before getting up for the last hour. I tried falling asleep a lot sooner, but couldn't sleep despite being exhausted. Luckily I could just lay there listening to my audiobook. I did fall back asleep for a bit after that last hour, so probably got near 7 or 8 hours total. Definitely was needed to not put my week out of whack (since everything else pulls it out of whack, but I can control my sleep :))

Comments:
Personal health issues cropped up Saturday night and plagued me until Tuesday. So I took a bath, took some drugs, and went to bed. Woke up and felt a little better for a time so I read for the last hour of the 'thon. I was so disappointed. I was looking for a stress-free, relaxing 'thon! :( Instead I was in pain. Blahhhh.

You sure did read a lot though!

message 514: by Elyse (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Luckily was able to get the day off from work now that the Reverse Readathon is on August 7 instead of July 31! I had taken off July 31. I like to be able to sleep in and spend the day prepping for the Reverse Readathon since my start time is 8pm. :)

I've started to think about my potential TBR. I'm shooting for committing to ARC August so I've got some ARC graphic novels/comics and PLENTY of novels, physical and e-book, to choose from. Line-up will come closer to the day!

message 515: by Susan (new)

The title El Deafo and cover art made me laugh. That is exactly how many of us disabled people feel about our devices, machines, and other contraptions: We love/hate/gratitude it all. And the Spanglish "o" says it in one little letter. I have requested it from the library!

Abbey (abbeyhauser) | 194 comments I'm glad you will be back too (and got the day off work)! I was avoiding the threads lately, thinking that sadly my day of driving back to KY on the 1st would limit my participation severely, but it turns out the move of date makes this the perfect timing now!

I hope you feel better this time around too. I totally get how frustrating it can be when plans get overtaken for pain and managing it. No fun.

Oh yay glad it worked out for you! It wouldn't be the same without you! I wish there were some preventative I could do so that I could guarantee a pain-free weekend! lol. Actually, I did get surgery for the problem (endometriosis) in June so hoping that pain is gone for awhile yet! But there's always migraines...blah.

A Torch Against the Night (hardcover I own)
Take a Hint, Dani Brown (Overdrive e-book)
Akata Warrior (Overdrive e-book)

And now I am very excited for August to start and the Readathon to come!

message 524: by Leni (new)

Leni Iversen (leniverse) | 566 comments That's a lot of ARCs, and a lot of good looking ARCs. I'm excited for you!

Of your non-ARCs I've read Americanah (but I haven't tried the audio). It was really good (but I preferred Half of a Yellow Sun). Funny thing is, being European I've met more Africans than African-Americans, and my experience of the book, my approach to it, and my frame of reference is very different from yours for all that we are both white women from the west, so to speak.

It IS a lot of ARCs! And only a fraction of my total ARCs. I'm an ARC addict. lol.
That is very interesting! I think Americanah will be a very interesting and enlightening read (listen) and I'm looking forward to it. It may be my first audio for August. I've owned it for a few years now. I also own Purple Hibiscus.

Leni, that's an interesting observation. I am a European woman who emigrated to the US. I was able to relate to several of the concepts she discussed in the books and have certainly observed the various kinds of racism (both Euorpean and American).

A heavy block of audio. A lot of Goodreads checking in this block! Also started the crockpot for the pulled pork at 10am so it will be ready between 5-6pm. Not as much reading as I wanted but I *will* be reading during the next block!

Comments:
Ended up finishing my audiobook (This Is Just My Face) and probably won't start another one. I can't believe there's only 4 hours left! I feel like this 'thon went by SUPER fast. Faster than normal. lol. Hoping to finish This Is My America! Did Hour 18 reading sprint and read 63 pages of Dove Alight.

Check-In #6 - Hours 21-24 (4pm-8pm):
Check-In Time: 8:38pm
Breaks: 0
Food/Drink: Water, Dr. Pepper (what was left in the bottle after putting 12oz in the pulled pork!), pulled pork on brioche roll with cole slaw, mango peach iced tea, peanut M&M's, Skittles (sugar is keeping me awake)
Pages Read: 345 (total 1,207-including finished audiobook)
Time Listened: 0
Books Progressed In: 1
This Is My America by Kim Johnson
Books Finished: 0
Comments:
I participated in Hour 24 reading sprint and read 75 pages of This Is My America. It's also the only book I read in the final 4 hours. I'm 83% through and screw it, I'm finishing it tonight. It's really good.
I also changed up my check-ins, my stats weren't jiving so I re-did them so they only reflect what was happening in each 4-hour block because I realized my food was block-specific but I was tallying my total 'thon stats. No one may have noticed but it irked me. lol.
Wrap-up to come after a full night's rest! And I'll fill out my BINGO board.

Hard boiled egg & avocado on English muffin
Supper

Yogi sweet tangerine tea
Orange juice
Water
Mango peach iced tea
Pepsi
Snacks
Peanut M&Ms

message 533: by Elyse (last edited Aug 07, 2020 05:03PM) (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Hello! Today is the day! Woohoo! I was rudely awakened at 6:30am when my husband's alarm went off buuuut I was able to fall back asleep and slept till 10am! Woohoo! I feel good!
I've got a list of things to do today:
Shower
Wash bedding & remake bed
Run dishwasher & put away dishes
Walk dogs
Make supper menu for next 2 weeks
Go grocery shopping & put away groceries
Chop veggies for crudités & cut watermelon
Make cole slaw
Make tea (for iced tea)
Make supper
Steam eggs
Bake chocolate chunk muffins

I have made the tea! lol. I also plugged in my books for the BINGO square. The randomizer gave me this order (I didn't add in the audio because those are only for desperate times and I only put in the first Airbender graphic novel because starting with Part 3 would be silly so I just put Part 2&3 after Part 1):
Shades of Magic: The Steel Prince Vol. 3: The Rebel Army
Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Promise, Part 1
Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Promise, Part 2
Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Promise, Part 3
This Is My America
Dove Alight
The Wrong Mr. Darcy
Love's Recipe
A Torch Against the Night

I kind of like this order so I might try to stick with it! And I have other graphic novels if I do need to switch to them later on in the 'thon. But since it stars at 8pm, it might be a good place to start!

I *need* to be better about drinking water/liquids tomorrow, so maybe I'll need to track it here just to motivate myself (I usually track tea & coffee). I'm back in my apartment and my water filter pitcher isn't filtering well (and my apartment water has a weird taste and I'm usually not picky), so I've been HORRIBLE at consuming liquids and paid for it today with just feeling blah.
