Buddy Reads

The Ace of Skulls Oct-1
Guns of the Dawn Oct-16
Low Town Oct-22

and if it comes due from the library at some point this month The Pillars of the Earth

Other than that I'm happy to say I have no clue. After being so disciplined to accomplish my open series goals the last few months whatever happens, happens.

message 10: by Andrew (new)

Andrew | 653 comments Buddy Read for Ironhand's Daughter.

Finishing up Brent Weeks' trilogy with Beyond the Shadows.

Not sure where I'll go after that, but I did just score a hardback copy of the first three Black Company stories for $1.00 so maybe I'll finally explore Glenn Cook's world.

Saul the Heir of Isauldur (krinnok) | 209 comments I've been trying to track down the first of the Black Company books, but can't seem to find it! But I really want to read them.

It will be a great month indeed! :) The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance are in my top 10.

Is Midnight Tides as good as DG and MoI?

On a re-read it probably will be but the first 8 chapters or so are rough because you're thrown into the world with, after the prologue, only Trull as a point of reference. From that point forward after you get your footing it's as good. Along with being my favorite prologue of the series it's also my favorite epilogue purely from a humorous POV.

Also Tehol and Bugg are brilliant.

The prologue was awesome! I loved Tehol and Bugg's introduction. I am a bit lost on the Tiste Edur side, but I trust Erikson enough that by the end of the book it will all make sense.

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Slight change I hope to start way of kings this month as well since I'm reading hero of ages and hopefully get through it this time 😂😂😂

Chris (murphy44) | 710 comments You know, I've been a part of this group since February (I think) and you've always had this thread. Until tonight, I always read the title and thought... "Why the hell is the cut off for what was read on the 17th of every month? It's such a weird date/number to pick... That doesn't make any sense..." Yep, WIN!!

It comes together but both the TE and Letherii were confusing at first plus you're dealing with a lot of "old world" things.

I just thought that the reading period went from 17th to 17th...So that's the way I'd report my reads...Oh well, brain farts for the win!

I know I really missed having ppl to talk to while reading ASOIAF so I thought I'd just give you a heads up. It's ALWAYS better shared. But you do you...GRRM is great served either way.

They're also talking about doing it the way where you read Feast of Crows and Dance With Dragons at the same time jumping back and forth... since those 2 books happen at the same time and focus on different characters because they got too long to be 1 book... the reading order is: http://boiledleather.com/post/2590255...

Only 1 chapter in each book must be read out of order to avoid spoilers... otherwise it's a matter of switching back and forth between books, but reading in chapter order still...

:-O this man is networked!
I haven't read EITHER of those books. I'll definitely try it the freaky way if everyone's gonna do that.

(Not a buddy read though)

message 40: by Rob (new)

Rob (nefariasbredd) | 2418 comments I"m trying to play catchup before doing a buddy read later this month and at least two buddy-reads next month..sooo.

Right now its:

Elantris - trying to read everything Cosmere before Oathbringer! (So already finished my Words of Radiance and Edgedancer reread and first time reads this month.

The Walking Dead, Vol. 28: A Certain Doom

Reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - reread to me, but nightly reading to the kids.

I just got The Book of Swords and am jumping back to using Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection for the aforementioned Edgedancer and soon to the Emperor's soul. Also just bought Warbreaker yesterday. So Not sure how I am going to get this much done in a short time.

Originally I had planned October to be Washington: A Life month, but that is not happening and may be pushed back to 2018.

At least I finally finished bingewatching Battlestar Galactica for the 50th time the other night. Time to commit to reading :)

It is so good. I want to call it the best book ever because everything comes to fruition but all that foundation was placed in DG, MOI and TBH which were all just as good as standalones.

I second this motion and am tempted to join the reread starting in January. Though I finished MBOTF a year+ ago, it has probably been at least 3 years since I've reread Gardens of the Moon.

Chris (murphy44) | 710 comments Well I'm currently buddy reading The Pillars of the Earth and filling in snippets of free time with Rogues and L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 30. Since it's Halloween soon I've just started The Desert Spear to get my demon fill. But I'm feeling a little nostalgic and thinking of digging out my copy of Superstitious! And to round out the month I've got another buddy read: The Blade Itself.
My fluffy mindless read is Raven's Shadow. That's pretty much it.

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments I've just finished the desert spear chris and I enjoyed it for the most part but I you might need to be patient with the start of the book
