Chapters 2-6

(view spoiler)[This book is terrifying! So we've had a couple of flashback chapters going back to when Malorie found out she was pregnant (which happened around the same time the pandemic started in Russia), when Malorie was a couple of months pregnant and the pandemic had hit America and was becoming more and more present, and when Malorie's sister succumbed to whatever was happening and took her own life.

Just the idea of looking outside and deciding to possibly harm others around you and then take your own life in a horrific violent way is just terrifying. The descriptions of some of the people who have killed themselves are so scary and unimaginable.

I think this book may have me staying up all night in fear ha! (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 7-9

(view spoiler)[Really enjoying this book. Love the chapters showing Malories life before the kids were born. I'm wondering why Tom and the gang weren't present in the first chapter so I'm thinking they're all dead.

The guy on the river was weird. Did he really have his eyes open? Was he really crazy? I don't know but he was weird. I'm pleased they didn't take their blindfolds off for him. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 10-22

(view spoiler)[I think the main purpose of Don in this book is to have that asshole character that you see in every apocalyptic book/film/tv show who is only there to disagree with every decision the groups makes and try to be the top alpha. He's kind of a dick.

I'm shocked at the fact that Malorie was actually considering blinding the kids when they were babies. Although I guess in the circumstances they are living in, maybe it would have been for the best. (hide spoiler)]

I feel super bad for those kids, can you imagine having to keep your eyes shut on your first really journey outside?? And they still manage to keep their composure... I would have died.

(view spoiler)[Waiiit.. what? This book, for me, was a 5/5 stars completely, up until the last 2 or 3 chapters. I felt the death of the housemates was rushed, and actually the last 3 chapters were rushed. I have a lot of questions: why don't we find out what is happening? Why doesn't Malorie name the kids until the last chapter (after 4 years!)? What has Malorie and the kids been living on for the last 4 years?

I enjoyed the book, but for me, I wanted more closure. I can appreciate the ambiguity of the ending, but I wanted to know! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 22(view spoiler)[ I'm happy that she found a group of people so that she wouldn't be alone and pregnant. So that makes sense that one of those kids belong to Olympia. Now I'm just wondering how all these people die....because obviously they all do at some point. When she pulled out the paint thinner to blind those babies I literally held my breath. The pace of the book is same and haven't taken a turn yet.It is switching between two timelines where we get to read about her past and whtever led to her flee.
iam enjoying the past version and am soo curious about wht happpened to her mates .
Also one of my small prophecy about her kids r may be one of them is olumbia's or both of them olumbia's and maybe thatswhy she call them boy n girl.

The most scary part about this is without knowing wht is out there they have to live a normal life by going out to do stuffs ,and the fear when they run out of food is immense.

Now there were many characters who I don't really deeply cared about and there weren't so many to start with... And was I only one who felt it unlogical how this other woman giving birth didn't end up being violent??!! EVERYBODY else killed others, then themselves. But a miracle happened and Malorie & babies were saved and Malorie is just "okay, what next". Hmmmm. I am still going to read the next book. (hide spoiler)]
