Hello...you! Gone awful quiet you had...how're you?
Still battering away at those three heavies? Btw, i think December is the best time of year to read Dickens.

Em Lost In Books (emlostinbooks) | 2388 comments yup, bff was not here na...

lolss... yeah. I have to wrap up Steinbeck, Dostoevsky, Dickens, and Dumas this month. If i am still alive after achieving that feat, I will definitely read it. :):)

Em Lost In Books (emlostinbooks) | 2388 comments have you read any Edith Wharton?

message 105: by Zaara (new)

Zaara | 4273 comments I swear I was just gonna gatecrash you and Syl's lifetime thread...
Also *glare*
Why haven't you signed up for the reading comp yet? You don't really wanna, do ya? Its not that scary Manu. Tis just points for the books you're already gonna read anyway.
Or did you already sign up and I missed it?
*brings some oaths*

I've read House of Mirth, if I remember right. Social commentary. I wouldn't recommend starting it now with the three you're already reading. Why?

It = Wharton or Dickens, gal?
But hey be careful, don't sign up for too many buddy reads ok? Or it will get too messy and you'll lag on all of them + all the characters and stories will get mixed up in your head (if you have a head like mine) + you will get sick and tired of reading only fantasy.
Like a dumbass I went and did that n now I'm rather thinking I will pare down on my Jan too. Don't wanna be starting another mega series and dragging my feet on it forevaaaar.

Dickens. :)

i will check BRs but I don't think I will be taking part in many. have promised Ini, Sri, and Syl many BRs. Will read books and see how many points they will earn.

You flatter me gal, you do. And my head is too swollen already ;-) okkkkk since I have a special pass, I promise to haunt you and Syl thru 2018...you'll get sick of meeeeee...
Honestly, I join every grp I'm invited to but don't participate equally.
If you can finish Dickens, Dumas, and Dostoyevsky in December you da dunkin'est donut evaarrr, mah suga + I promise to hero worship you (with a capital D) for 365 days.
And you better join the Tome Raiders. Cuz you #majorswoons also finished WoK and WoR this month, no?
I still have one open October read.
Are you reading all these classics for a group?

message 112: by Zaara (last edited Nov 29, 2017 03:29AM) (new)

Zaara | 4273 comments I haven't done a single BR with Iniya to be honest.
I've 2 with @Sri and @Syl. They're the best, as is Dickens. I can't decide whether I like Great Expectations more or Bleak House.
But my fave Dickens will always be A Christmas Carol. I also like his earliest...Sketches by Boz. It has an unpolished innocence about it that is missing from his later work.

Btw, I'm really enjoying :-) the quotes on your (Dickens) status updates. Keep 'em coming...

message 113: by Zaara (new)

Zaara | 4273 comments That'll work Manu. Any book in any format is allowed. But the Buddy Read bonus is given only to FBR buddy reads, I'm pretty sure. But you'll still get the basic points per book depending on page count + if you create a (FBR) challenge for yourself the books will also get challenge bonus points. You'll still rack up an impressive total.

Zaara | 4273 comments Manju wrote: "gifted The Age of Innocence myself last year. planning to squeeze it in December... "

I believe it is widely considered a companion to House of Mirth. I been neglecting my other reading these coupla months...
Enjoy. I'll prolly just *yerk* thru the rest of Malice sometime in Dec and then we will see. Its always fun deciding which books to take on a trip...aaaaand it looks like you've logged out and I'm that idiot woman talking to myself agn?

Ahaan!! will start today then. i have crossed 50% mark in all except EoE but am sure i will finish it over the weekend. it's a breezy read. Anything to be your hero!! *play Enrique's hero in background*

And you better join the Tome Raiders. Cuz you #majorswoons also finished WoK and WoR this month, no

yes, ma'am. yes! and I just LOVED it. fell in love with them all over again.

Are you reading all these classics for a group?

not for any group but it is my personal challenge. check https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Zaara | 4273 comments Checking your thread now...
And yes yes...ima start Stormlight in April...with Morte, Dan, Sio and fellow timezoner Sarah and really really hope Mayim will come and Ron will drop by just to say hi.
On;y do I really wanna get myself into the angst of starting not yet half-finished series that will make me eat my heart out waiting for the next book cuz I'm already doing that with Martin, Lynch, Rothfuss...
#thebig3
So I will prolly give myself a big break between WoK and WoR. By then Oathbringer will be out in paperback...heh!
Ohkkk really checking out your thread now..

sounds interesting. will check with Mods before putting any challenge for myself here. :)

message 119: by Zaara (new)

Zaara | 4273 comments Ahhhh I missed that you'd also posted here.
Read the individual chalkenge rule threads...they're easily navigable...yeah then chat with the mods...I've on;y ever spoken with Niki, Scott, and Angela a coupla times. Never with Jenna I don't think but hear she's the sweetest person. From personal experience...Marge's (Margret) lovely. They're all very helpful. All the best. Looking at your personal reading log, I'm sure you'll crush every challenge. I really hope the Tome Raiders get you.
Or the Blood Eagles cuz they're my I have a soft corner team...so many of my best gals are there. And then Lala's in Mordor and then wait...Siobhan and Anni are in Jaghut, no? Goombye Bloodbirds. Youz no longer my soft corner team. I will fight you toooo the last page. And *sigh* I will lose bcuz of my abysmal page coutn.
Heh!
You'll be fine anywhere really @Manu. They're all real nice but *glares* Raiders for the WIN.

0.o i need to learn how to make cute faces using typeset symbols from The Mellificent.
Depends on the doc, no? Will it be the scary creepy kinda doc with needles (xcuz I hate needles) or will it be a nice jolly jumbly Santa of a doc? Or a McDreamy or whatever the Grey's Anatomy babe she calls him...never liked that Meredith gal...never get into the habit of watching anything long-running xept the Mentalist cuz...*sighhhhh* if he's the Doctor, Manu....I'll take the needles like a man...
Ok I gtg now but woooooop its nice not to be freaked out by GR anymore. See, no lightning bolts fell on me.
Thanks Manu. You're a sweetheart.

Martin, Lynch, and Rothfuss? why o why? O.o

Zaara | 4273 comments @Manu...checked your past. Cool. Two things sweetheart...there's a link which you can use to check your Hogwarts house, if you'd want to fill in that part of the questionnaire...
http://time.com/4809884/harry-potter-...

The other thing is you aren't allowed to choose your team...the mods just assign you one. I think I already told you that Niki assigns them based on some math? I really don't think they'd frown upon a friendly request (and heh @Niki is Team Raiders after all) but just keep that in mind ok?

(Also, this group's reading Mistborn #2. Were you able to complete it after our failed attempts of BR?
I read it in January.)

Zaara | 4273 comments Yeah. Sorry to preach. I hate nagging...allergic to it (and being serious) actually...but I'm also obviously terrified of mucking something up agn...but...they're really not all that strict here actually xcuz see...they even gave everyone a containment cell to play in.
I'm on parole tho' Manu dear...and I really don't wanna mess up agn.
I'm actually rather enjoying it. Well...the everyone talking about it bit was embarrassing and mortifying but luckily I habe a very thick skin + I've never been a felon on parole before and though this is a rather lukewarm imitation of it... I'm enjoying my stint as part of the criminal underworld.

Of course you do...you super popular and beloved mod of an uber huge GR group you!
You're very modest Manu. Me screechin' crow...youz a swan + then there's @Ron. She is you with guns GIFs.

Did you see Deej came? I think everyone I regularly interacted with @GR India is now here xept Rex and Syl :-(
@Sri's already here. Ab. Ani. Why doesn't @Ani say anything over here? He knows so much, reads so widely in the genre....
@Sachin I haven't checked. I just read his blog before I EVAAAARRR decide whether or not to buy a series. Dev is my fantasy yardstick.
Rex is too too a Marlboro Man tho' he reads fantasy. He won't come, you think I should ask him? Prolly not. Syl already has too much on her plate or I'd deffo ask her. Shall we ask Polo? Or just leave it? Everyone'll come if they want to.

@Deej...re Mistborn...no sweet. I didn't continue past Book 1 for the same reasons Veronica didn't viz.

message 140: by Zaara (new)

Zaara | 4273 comments 😘 big love + will be continuing the series...back to back is not something I usually do...the last was Gentleman Bastards. It kinda negatively influenced my read of Book 2 (Red Seas)...deadened the impact...then @Sri sat me down and xplained. Kinda feel guilty for not loving Red Seas as much as I do Lies of LL. I didn't know timing could be that important...

read at your leisure. :) GB2 was not as good as 1 and third pales even more in comparison. :'( Am not very excited for 4 and Lynch keep delaying the release, making it too hard love Locke and Jean.

That's not what I want to hear Manju... but the umpteen friend reviews this series seems to have agree... I think almost everybody on my friends list has read these books, or plans to at some point... 5x as many as half the things I've read...

message 144: by Em Lost In Books (new)

Em Lost In Books (emlostinbooks) | 2388 comments Sad to say but that's how that series went for me. from awesome to mediocre. :(

You should continue, Iain. Just not immediately after LiesoLL + don't expect it to be anything more than vaguely reminiscent of Book 1. It's a pirate-y...shipboard book which normally I'd love. Its well written cuz Lynch + it has great chars + a love story which someone of @800 sensibilities may like.
I didn't like a coupla minor tracks but those are just my inane head quibbles.
Its just...at the risk of repeating myself...don't you go and read it immediately after your Lies refresher.
That is...providing you still retain your sanity ;-) after your extremely sluggish December sked...
Me...I'll just be sorry to have missed Chalion and the rest of Sweaters :-( and with all the coolest ppl too.

Altho Manu darling I share your *yerk* feels abt Sabetha from Book 3. But then we already beat that one to the d.

message 148: by Anni (new)

Anni | 5066 comments I love all of them! I agree, you shouldn't read them too quick one after another. It also took me months to finish because I made some breaks in between. But I enjoyed the characters and Lynchs writing style very much. You are right Sabetha is such a brat sometimes, but there are other characters (which I didn't expected to show up) in book 3 I enjoyed immensely ;)
