Read-a-Thon #2- Team Ghost Discussion Topic
By the way, if we add books to the timeline/map, do they have to be books we read this week? I have a bunch from the past that I never added.
Kathryn wrote: "By the way, if we add books to the timeline/map, do they have to be books we read this week? I have a bunch from the past that I never added."I think it has to be an ATY Challenge book that we read during the readathon.
I just finished reading The Sun Is Also a Star, which was 345 pages. It featured characters eating and characters who get in a fight, and it also included characters travelling. I hope I haven't messed up the spreadsheet, but I've put it down for now in all three categories where it fits. I also played the Scrabble game today.
Great recommendations from you. The Hate U Give was one of my favorite reads this year and I thought about recommending it too ;) I'll post mine later.I've finished the novella Chess Story. There were alredy three in the spread, but I added mine just in case :)
Also I've read for one hour straight and finished one book. I can count it if it's only a novella right?

It should be fine because it said a book or a story in one sitting.
I have updated the spread sheet with mi graphic novel (change to black).Who is updating the squares with smiley face? According the spreadsheet, we have finished with the graphic novels, fight and eat squares, and I think also with person of color, because all of them are in black.
I started reading The Last Unicorn. I added in grey to the spreadsheet for the Children /YA/ Middlegrade category.
I'm the master of the smileys, I had a good training last year! I'll update with the new completed squares.I think some books are in black but not finished, so I didn't count them.
I have a book that is black and read on my list for this week. Does the cover need to be only red to count toward the rainbow? It looks like we also need violet to complete that section.
There's indigo and violet in the rainbow.Anastasia, can you show us the cover? If it's at least half red, it should work.
I just looked at the book cover again and it is black, orange and red. Not enough to count. I did find an ebook that has a gorgeous violet colour though and we'll start that next.
If no one finds a red cover by tomorrow I will be at the library.

Okay, thanks :)
I don't know how you make the titles grey or black-haven't finished Better yet. Here is Chilbury. Orange or not enuf?
Perri > you can change the color like this:- click on the case you want to put in a color
- click on the A in the top bar (it opens the colors)
- click on the new color.
For me, the color on the cover is dawn/twilight so pink-orangish with a touch of yellow.
You're welcome. Now time to kill Chilbury:- click on the case
- go to the text bar at the top, the one next "fx" (if it's not large enough, you can resize it if you place your mouse on the bottom line, wait for the 2 sided arrow, then click and move your mouse)
- select your book in the text bar and delete it.
OR:
- double click on the case and it should let you modify the text.
Welcome to the spreadsheet world :D
Samantha > smiley added (I put some at the bottom of the card, you can use them, just drag them on the card).Another 30min of audiobook for me today. I've still some reading to do, but won't finish anything as I'm at the beginnings.
I did a lot of scouring & finally found something I want to read for a red cover:
I have a book I hope to finish tonight, so I'll be able to start this red one tomorrow.
I finished with my novella Memories of My Melancholy Whores.Finished in One sitting!!!! Many more than just one hour straight reading, but I think that square is done :)
Thank you Zaz! Silvia that is quite the name for a book!
I finished The Expatriates and listened to two and a half hours of Audio book Girl Last Seen
I should be able to read more later tonight.
Since I'm reading the YA novel Masque of the Red Death I decided to read the short story that inspired it by Edgar Allan Poe, also called The Masque of the Red Death. I'll add it to the spreadsheet and hopefully not confuse too many people! By the way, we now have three short stories/novellas (I couldn't figure out how to add the smiley face). Also, my hold for Dark Matter just finished from the library so that's an additional red book.
I finished my first book of the read-a-thon, Sister Queens: The Noble, Tragic Lives of Katherine of Aragon and Juana, Queen of Castile. I started it before the read-a-thon, but I listened to 8 audiobook hours today, so that fills my 6 hours.Kathryn, if you want to read Dark Matter for the red book, that would be awesome. I have another ATY book I'd rather read than the red book I picked out. It's The Geek Feminist Revolution, which has a yellow cover. I'll have to look at the spreadsheet to see if we need a yellow book.
I started reading Matched. I got about a third of the way through tonight, and played the next round of Scrabble.
Katie your yellow book might be a better choice than mine. I have seen the cover yellow to an off white color ( mine is an e book and has no cover).
My recommandation: The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet (Wayfarers #1)It's social space scifi, with very well developed alien cultures and an excellent crew (often compared to the TV show Firefly). The 2nd is also very good, even if different and I'm looking forward to the next (and everything she'll write).
I just finished David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants for the nonfiction category. I'm also supposed to share something I learned from the book. Bascially, the book talks about how sometimes things that we see as disadvantages can actually be advantages, and things that we see as advantages can actually hinder us. I'm now going to start One Hundred Years of Solitude for the ATY challenge book category. It is also a green book.
I have two recommendations for you :)The first is The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment. It's my favorite non-fiction book. Actually the title says everything. It's about how to be more present in the now and how this will enhance your life for the positive.
I think everyone should read this at least once.
My second one is Stalking Jack the Ripper. It's one of my favorite reads this year, I didn't expected it to be this good! It's about Audrey who is 17 and loves forensic medicine, which she gets to learn form her uncle in his laboratory. They eventually get involved in the search for Jack the Ripper. The story is gripping and the characters are great.
The Taste of Fear
This is the book that I would like to add for violet. I think it works, but would like some feed back.
I just completed it today.
My recommendations arefor those who are completing the Around the World Challenge
Book Lust to Go: Recommended Reading for Travelers, Vagabonds, and Dreamers is a good resource. She lists books from around the world that she has read. It is a good place to start.
Four Secrets is a great YA novel. It has some interesting twists with grown up problems.
Michelle wrote: "If there are enough Graphic novels, I can move mine to a book in a series because its Saga Vol 4. Also, we need to start keeping track of our participation in other readathon games."
Have we decided how to keep track of our participation in the readathon games?
Anastasia wrote: "Michelle wrote: "If there are enough Graphic novels, I can move mine to a book in a series because its Saga Vol 4. Also, we need to start keeping track of our participation in other readathon gam..."
Yes, people have just been writing it on the spreadsheet when they've participated in a game.
I finished Sourdough and would recommend it to anyone who enjoyed Robin Sloan other book Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore. I listen to 2.5 hours of audio book Girl Last Seen.
I finished Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two last night--it has a yellow cover. It was actually quite a bit better than I was expecting based on reviews from disappointed Harry Potter fans. Also finished Masque of the Red Death and The Refugees (which I started before the read-a-thon). These were the last two of my ATY challenge, so I'm done!
I'm going to start Dark Matter tomorrow, which has a red cover.

Congratulations for finishing the AtY Challenge!!!

I added Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two to the series row.
I'm still looking around for red covers... I have Dark Matter on hold at the library (I'm second in line and there are 54 copies, so there's a good chance I'll get it soon), so I might read that this week.
