D.G. | 1 comments Hi Lanelle - The Bride has many tasks where you actually need to read the book/look around for a description to find if the book fits. That adds some stress to the process because it takes longer to figure out if a book actually fits ...can we use Listopias /Shelves as options?

i.e. for genius, we could use either of these (there are more but some examples..)
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2...
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2...

i.e. for wedding, we can use either this listopia or the 'wedding' shelf
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/3...
https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...

Obviously this wouldn't work for everybody but it would be great to use them as options.

I'm sorry. I'm not sure what you mean by 'options'. D.G. wrote: "...can we use Listopias/Shelves as options?"

You can certainly use Listopia and GR's Shelves to help you find books that match the tasks. They are a good resource. Those links you provided look helpful. Does that answer your question?

message 154: by D.G. (last edited Oct 12, 2017 04:21PM) (new)

D.G. | 1 comments Meaning, that I'd like to be able to pick from the listopias that fit the task without then having to double check in the story or with you whether the book is OK.

For example: The Lies of Locke Lamora is in one of the "genius" listopias. I've read this book and I can tell you that the MC is a genius con man and he's certainly super smart. But does it fit what YOU mean by genius? (After all, this is fantasy so we don't know his actual IQ.) Maybe not but I'd say if we go by using books from listopias, it should be still be allowed because it's in the "Genius Protagonist" listopia.

Denise, Deb, Lanelle, you have to watch the movie when you finish. My 10 yr old daughter told me that she felt like she could be anything if she worked hard and uses her brain.
Personally, it was motivation. Women can be engineers, mathematicians etc. I loved it

For the wattage does any books count or does it have to be related to the tasks? Just to confirm

I think it's great to use Listopia and the shelves to find potential matches for the tasks, but I have come across many books that should not be on a certain list or shelf. I feel you should still decide for yourself whether the book qualifies for a task, and not assume that whoever put the book on the list or shelf knew what they were about.

I'm sorry. I hope you don't think I'm being picky. I just worry that anyone can put any book on a list. Unless someone complains or removes an unacceptable book from a list, folks can get the wrong idea about it.

You're the mod and you have the last word on rules. That was a suggestion to make things easier on the participants. I'll let everybody on my team know that they cannot use listopias to pick books unless they can verify in some other way that the book actually fits the task.

Bride of Frankenstein:

I want to read The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah which is being made into a movie. It’s not out yet. Would this be acceptable?

D.G. | 1 comments Lanelle - I have a book where the MC gets his prominent scars in the last third of the book (he's tortured and they take one of his eyes out with a knife...I know this because it's a re-read for me.) Does that still count?

(If it isn't, I'll just read the next in the series...)

message 172: by Tallyho (new)

Tallyho | 35 comments Ok, to beat the medical MC horse just a little bit more....

This MC is NOT a doctor or nurse, but spends the majority of the book caring for victims of the black plague--as in, the entire village she is living in comes down with it. Brewing medicinals, lancing boils, diagnosing, etc. She's a time-traveler that had to study all of this historically before traveling. She is up to her elbows in bandages, graves, illness and is sleep deprived for nearly the entire book.

Doomsday Book Does this work for MC medical?

Alison (Lady Coffin) S | 2318 comments So, if we have built a Monster and are most of the way done with building a Monster a Bride. Do you think that maybe they could have a Monster Baby?

*grin* Nope. No babies.

But did you know that Victor Frankenstein created something before the monster?
He made a cat. And the cat got it's own BBC animated show!

Frankenstein's Cat by Curtis Jobling by Curtis Jobling

The cat's name is Nine because it's made out of nine cats:
American Shorthair - read a book set in the United States
Cheetoh - read a book within 24 hours
Dragon Li - read a fantasy book
Foldex - read a book with 'X' anywhere on the cover
Maine Coon - read a 400+ page book
Munchkin - read a book with a small child in it
Norwegian Forest cat - read a book with a tree on the cover
Russian Blue - read a book with a blue cover
Snowshoe - read a book set during the winter
plus 1 book for wattage ('cuz cats are small)

Obviously, I did this just for fun. BUT... if you want to look at your extra wattage books to see if it's possible to accomplish, you're welcome to do that :)

If the cover is at least 1/2 red, it's good. I like the first book better. There's too much yellow on the second book.
