Thats exactly what's happening... and anyone can copy one of the empty no-show sheets for Lena to start adding her books until Rob or someone has time to add her to the team formulas...

Good idea! You have a scoresheet Lena :)

But doesn't that make it not a competition at all? I mean .... if one team has 2x as many members as another (not saying this has happened, but at this rate...) so their scores can be similar, then it's not competitive at all. If a team is falling behind, the team members don't have to get competitive, they can just sit back and get more members.
I remember at the beginning the mods used the questionnaire to balance the teams. Teams each had a similar number of high volume and low volume readers. I was of the impression that this was how it was supposed to be.

Our team is leading at the moment but only because everyone reads. If a few of us will not be able to keep the same pace till the end of the year ...? What happens then?
I'm not saying adding another member to the team that is constantly behind is bad because as it is that team doesn't seem to have any shot at winning. But perhaps the new member should instead replace an older member who doesn't really contribute.
My little kid was recently involved in a reading competition organised by our community. The members were set randomly in the beginning - equal for all teams, 8 to 15 year olds spread equally in between. My kid's team was loosing with a big gap after the second week but the kids got together and set up a plan and started to read more and talk to each other and plan for their books and their number of pages so they can get back on track. It was actually really cute and fun to watch. (OK I admit it - we as parents found it pretty difficult to hold it together at times because our kids were so serious and set to work and scolding each other for not putting some back into it! they were amazing!) And by the end of the 4th week their team won. With a minimal diffeence of only 12 pages from the second ranking team but they won because they worked together. That was a true competition for them. Not the winning part but the planning and working together. And all the kids want to compete again after the summer holidays, even the teams that lost, because they had fun!
All I'm trying to say is we seem to start focusing more on page numbers and first places instead of having fun working together. After all, team work is what a competition is all about, not just adding pages to the chart.

Truth be told, I am in fact 'sitting back'. I have to, because when I tried getting more competitive, I ended up burnt out and not having fun reading anymore. We had a discussion within the team so I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in this. But even going all out, we couldn't close the point gap... And well, losing even with your best efforts is no fun.
So yeah... I pretty much given up on our team being competitive without new members. I'm really enjoying our competition but more because of our team camaraderie.
I was going to say... the Tome Raider seem to be the most teamly team in the competition... despite their ranking... dunno if they're going to mirror the kid competition tho... too many other things take precedent over reading...

My goal was 3.5 books per week, or 182 books for the year at the beginning... but I upped it to 300 mid-February when I saw how ahead I was... and I just hit 100 today, nearly a month ahead of THAT schedule...

Fixed ;)

@Lena, you do know you can only add books you started and finished since you were added to the competition right?

The mods told her (in our team thread I think) she could add books from March 4th since that's when she 'applied' for the competition. She only joined now because her initial post went unnoticed.

Cool. I was pointing that out because I was snooping on her sheet and wasn't sure if she knew. Lot's of people are confused about the rules when they start off.

No that everything is set up, thank you lundos and Virginie, I can safely use my phone to update without fear of messing it up for everyone else.
Also I “read” many audiobooks and just use the first page number edition GR provides. I have no idea how to check if that’s the most popular version and don’t want to take the time to do so.
I hope that clears up what and how I inputted my sheet.

When you search for a book, goodreads should give you the most popular edition as the default, so your numbers are probably correct. To double check the most popular edition, just click on "All Editions" and goodreads should give you the list of every edition with the most popular being on the top.

Thanks Lundos and Virginie for helping out Lena. Awesome to see you are now set up Lena. Also, it is correct, that the mods agreed to backdate Lena's books as we had forgotten to add her to a team until yesterday.
As to how we put new people on teams, we as mods decided we would put new members on teams as they came up. Tomb Raiders started the year on the same number of members as other teams, however their points tally is way behind everyone else. Hence we made the decision to put new members into Tomb Raiders for a while to try to even up the teams based on reading counts. We are not trying to balance out number of team members, but number of books read.
In 2019 we will be adjusting the competition, but have made the decision for this year we are not changing how we have set up the competition. It took a lot of work and time (primarily by Niki) to set up the competition in the first place. Closer to the end of the year we will look to post a thread for any comments on how the competition should be adjusted for the following year. This is a learning experience for the mods as well. All feedback is appreciated and is taken into consideration for the following year's competition.

Welcome :D
We did the retroactive for those who signed up at the beginning but didn't start participating until later. New signups go from today forward with no retroactive adding.
No... retroactive was allowed back in January, when mods were too busy to add signups in time for New Years... and I think Lena got to backdate to her signup date, maybe...
Quinn was accepted in like 4 minutes, so she gets to start counting books from today on, like Scott said... just to clear up any confusion from the conflicting answers @Quinn...
EDIT: This is redundant, since Niki just posted :D

Quinn all the rules are explained on the Team Reading Competition thread. I suggest you check that out so you'll know what you can and can't do and how to fill out the spread sheet.
Happy reading!

Haha thanks for looking out Iain.
I don't think Lena got to backdate, she's just a reading machine.

Hi Iniya! Niki will place you on a team when she gets to this, but anything you read from the time of the sign up (now) will count so if she doesn't get back to you for a day or two and you read a book in that time, you can count it towards your total.
