SOLVED picture book containing strange poems, jokes, short stories, cartoons [s]

This is a children's picture book I read in the 1970's. It was illustrated with color drawings. Each page contained a different little story or poem. Many of the pages the text itself was unusual. For example, one page contained, "It was a dark and stormy night. I was standing on the deck. The captain said to me, 'Tell me a story my son.' And so I began. It was a dark and stormy night. . . " going on and on with words in a spiral.

Another page showed pictures of three "endless cat tails"
