Same here. Waiting for my copy to arrive. Being that it's getting close to Halloween there has been a few King movies on TV so it's inspired me to read his stuff. Not to mention, I just watched IT!
Good one! At the end of the movie last night, someone gave me a red balloon....that was creepy, but I took it anyway and heard it pop early this morning (my kids).
Addy wrote: "Good one! At the end of the movie last night, someone gave me a red balloon....that was creepy, but I took it anyway and heard it pop early this morning (my kids)."As long as he wasn't dressed as a clown (well, a circus clown I mean, lol)...
Addy wrote: "Lmao...thank goodness he wasn't! Clowns freak me out. No thanks to Stephen king!"Ikr?! I wonder if the creepy clown sightings will be as big a deal this year as it was last year. Crazy!
I saw an article because I giggled the movie (hehe) and the title said that clowns everywhere better brace themselves for the release of It. It must do wonders for their careers (being sarcastic here)...Lol.

Latasha, I'm up to chapter 10, this is a very fast read. The wife, Heidi is a classic enabler in the relationship, giving lip service to weight loss but buying cheesecake and cooking a 1/2 dozen slices of bacon for Bill's breakfast. while reading this I could not help but wonder anout how this story would have been different 10, even 5 years later. Notice there was not talk of HIV in the Dr. visit, or the suggestion of bulemia or anorexia except as a joke.
Chapter 12: Mr. King's obvious self promotion is disappointing. It wasn't subtle or witty. So sad, and makes me like the book a little less.
I thought the read-a-long wasn't starting until october?I've got too many books still on my plate to get to this one any time soon.
The Skin Collector, Low Midnight, Black Dawn
sept 5: Intensity - kenyon (need to buy the e-book)
Sept 19: Archangel's Viper - singh
Sept 26: Immortally Yours - sands
sept 26: sleeping beauties - king
Started reading it today and read without stopping up to chapter 10. It was my first King's novel. I think I was 12 or 13. And it's so great to reread it now.
In one of the chapters, probably, where the arrival of gypsies was described there was a comparison, something about a clown and baloon. And I immediately thought of Pennywise :) And when Bill thought about having cancer he described his feelings as those similar to the feeling of a convict walking his last mile to the electrical chair. And it reminded me of Green Mile

My guess is he was putting Easter eggs in the book since this was under a pseudonym. Awesome idea!
It's like, "Hey guys, this is really King even though I can only publish one book out a year!"
That's what wiki says about why he did the pseudonym. Publishers only allowed authors to publish one book a year back in the day because of the readers "getting overwhelmed " or some other BS.

I don't know if it was an easter egg. Thinner was published 12 years before Green Mile. I don't even know if King already knew that he would write such story.

This has been a pretty good read!

Readers getting overwhelmed by more than 1 book a year? Look at authors now...not including short stories, some authors I read put out 3-5 books a year. (Presumably authors who don't use ghost writers.)
Christine Feehan puts out 1 book per series in 4 series (approx) per year, Sherrilyn Kenyon puts out 4 books a year (DH, CoN, League, DH spinoff), J.R. Ward, Gena Showalter and Faith Hunter put out 2+ books a year in various series/spinoffs. J.D. Robb puts out 2 In Death books and 2 (or more?) books under Nora Roberts.
Strange how publishers change their tune for what they perceive the market wants.

I know! I thought it was crazy too Myst when I read about Richard Bachman on Wiki.
Richard Bachman
My how publishers have changed! I'm sure they want authors to write as much as they can. Money, money, money.
Latasha, I'm currently on chapter 21, but I'll wait for ya', just let me know ehen you get your copy! We've got time.
Badseedgirl wrote: "Latasha, I'm currently on chapter 21, but I'll wait for ya', just let me know ehen you get your copy! We've got time."oh it's ok, you can go ahead. I'm gonna try to get it tomorrow or Friday. *try*
Glad to have you back Latasha! I had an episode of dyslexia and was on chapter 12, So you are at about the same spot, although I'm doing some reading tonight.
This was my 1st King book, stolen from an uncle at the age of 9, read secretly in my room and hidden under my pillow! I didn't find it scary but found it FASCINATING + WONDERFUL! I have loved "Uncle Stevie" and have been a 'Constant Reader' ever since!
my first King book was Christine but it was bad. I was too young and it didn't work out. I'm making up for lost time now.
Latasha wrote: "my first King book was Christine but it was bad. I was too young and it didn't work out. I'm making up for lost time now."Same Latasha. I didn't read any King books when I was younger because my parents were super religious and I wasn't allowed.
I'm making up for all the lost time now and I've got to say that I really like King. His writing and stories are awesome!
First King book..... The Eyes of the Dragon. It is still my all time favorite "King" book and fantasy book. It was "The Dark Tower" lite. I read it when I was ten years old, and have never been able to shake it. Oh, and I finished Thinner, sorry Latasha it was like Lays chips. Can't wait to discuss it.
lol it's ok. My mom was ok with me reading Christine, it just didn't click ... yet. So far my favorites have been IT and the shining.
I'm done! wow!! whoever said this book was like a lay's chip was right! I included that in my review too lol. it sure picks up last near the end, huh? I loved it once Ginelli shows up. We all need friends like him from time to time :p the ending was great and surprising.
Badseedgirl wrote: "It was just a throw away comment but still........"I think he was just poking fun at it really being him that was writing but how did people not know?! sometime his characters seems to ramble on in their head and I end up skipping over some of that.
