Was anyone else as disappointed in the ending as I?

I literally read this entire book in less than 12 hours (not all in one sitting).
It was engaging, and I found it to be very mysterious and couldn't wait to find out what happened next. I could not put it down.
However, after all the build-up of what-if's, the ending was a true disappointment for me. There were so many unanswered questions.
I feel this story has so much more potential than what was put out.

The meaning of the chocolates, coins, other buttons, and most of all: the purpose.

Does anyone else feel the same?
If you feel differently, please explain.

Zac, I can definitely say you are not alone. I felt like I totally missed something with this book. I kept waiting for the big 'Taaa Da' and I felt like a slowly deflated balloon. You're right, there were so many potential story lines that could have panned out nicely, but for whatever reason King chose not to explore them. I can only gather that this is like one of those open-ended books that forces the reader to engage in a higher level of thinking outside the box.

I agree - I didn't like the ending either. It didn't interest me enough to ponder the ending!

I feel the ending was rushed through and I agree this book just left it to your imagination. Only little excitement toward the box true powers and affect on her. It did show her being strong willed character.

Yep! Highly disappointing. It had an interesting premise, but then it began to fizzle out, and the ending was purile.

I guess I'd hoped we'd get to see all the good the box had done evaporate as she left the box behind...or something else I could get my teeth into. Instead it turned out all sweetness and light, like a boxed Mary Poppins. I can't believe I pre-ordered it.

Of the 75 books I read for the 2016 Reading Challenge, 30 were written by King. GWENDY'S BUTTON BOX is my 1st this year. I got all caught-up in the hype about it's Limited Release & unknown future publications, but HAD to get a copy for my Son's impressive {Stephen King Collection}. Soooo, I pre-ordered 2 copies through our Town's beautiful little Bookstore, and hoped for the best. This sounds way over-the-top, but I had sleepless nights about never getting this book for my boy (it felt like a lottery, not just a book purchase).

Alas, we Canadians were granted a WIN ! The {King Collection} continues to grow, and my Boy is : )) Mom ? Well, the artwork on the dust- jacket was intriguing. The book wasn't long enough to give-up-on half-way through (without feeling embarassed for yourself), so I endured. BOOOOOO ! HISSSSSSS! I'm putting "this" on the collaborator ♠

I agree, I thought the ending was too ambiguous. I don't believe ambiguous ending ever work, which is why Lowry's The Giver and Moore's The Killing Joke did not work for me.

The book was set up well, with like-able characters, a sweet and ominous atmosphere, and some tense conflict, but the Button Box itself felt more like a plot device than anything else. There was not a real explanation for why an object this powerful should exist. And the idea that pushing the buttons blows up continents? Where did Gwendy learn that?

Still, I would like to see the Button Box appear in some other of King's writings, as we know most of his books share a universe, just so we readers can get some resolution.

GWENDY'S BUTTON BOX to me was like watching a cliffhanger at the end of a TV series. So much was left unanswered & the book just seemed to me like it was slopped together just to get something out. NOT one of Kings best books in my opinion

The ending was alright, I like how it tied it up but also left the reader wanting more. To me they are setting this up to be a series of novellas, anyone else get that feel? I like how Mr. Farris seemed to not age, and that is what made me think of the Tall Man from Phantasm.

The ending felt rushed, as though there was a submission deadline looming.

Anita Maria So I think there now enough years behind us, and I now know that King has in branched Gwendy off into a trilogy. The books are: 1. Gwendy's Button Box ...more
