SOLVED. Children/YA chapter book- Fairytale/Fantasy. [s]

I read this book in middle-school, so I assume the age range is middle-school or younger. In this book a young boy runs across the golden flecks that the moon reflects on the sea. Having run across the water, he reaches the moon at the horizon, where he finds a door and enters another ethereal world. In this land, there is a house and a large magical yard with a tree where children sit and learn the secrets of the universe. They can ask any question they want. The book is filled with subtle life lessons and morals, and mysterious happenings, like a stairway that only appears to the boy when he is not looking for it, and an angel that speaks to him about wisdom in the room in which those stairs lead. I loved this book with such a fervor that I never forgot the feeling it gave me, but i did forget the name. I've been googling the plot since. Please help if you are able. Thank you very much.

Haven't read it myself, but I did a bit of googling and found The Garden Behind The Moon by Howard Pyle. Is that the book you're looking for?
