You've got some great books to choose from. Is the second list supposed to be from the list "2017 Highly Anticipated Epic Fantasy"?

message 52: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Oh no - Oathbringer not out until november!

The Forgotten Garden is on my annual challenge list! Options are narrowing!!

Yup - pasting error! Well spotted Janice.

Casceil I am looking to My Cousin Rachel. I have never read it.

I recommend The Thirteenth Tale, although your other choices sound good as well.

Kristie | 19143 comments While going through my list and trying to decide which book I may be more in the mood to read in a few days I accidentally came across a book that I already own that takes place in a museum. I was considering it for this challenge when I realized it will work for my yearly challenge as well. So excited! I will find something else for this challenge, but I'm so happy that I just happened upon something that can be used for my archeology task.

message 57: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 31 comments I got 'Hidden Gems-YA Fantasy Novels,' 'YA Music Books,' 'Sci-Fi & Fantasy Must Reads,' & 'The Assassin's Cloak: Diaries & Journals.'
I am intrigued by all of them! This is an excellent idea!

Indeed, there are a lot of good lists in here, I find a lot of good selections in many posts...

message 59: by Laura (Lclwags) (new)

Laura (Lclwags) (lclwags) | 698 comments My lists are:
Amish Mysteries
Anarcha-Feminist Books
Goodreads Picks for Tournament of Books 2017
The Bee-Loud Glade: Beeswax, Honey, Bees, Mead, Beekeeping, Apiarists, Apiology and Apiculture

That's a very strange combination!

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments Fun Task :)

My lists are:

I'll probably do the list "I only Watch the Movie" or 2nd "Great Romance Novels"

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Lori Z wrote: "Oh, I guess I should ask, can we go with a different set of lists or can we only choose from the original 4 that we get? "

Up to you. If it was me, I'd decide I was looking at the challenge and choose. But I understand looking at the function and then coming back later. As discussed, a few people have looked a few times. So, up to you :)

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments Rus, if I had known that I'd have kept checking back. I hate Romances :) and the other 2 of my Lists? Meh

You can always go back and look again, Anne. I only had one of my four lists that interested me as well, but fortunately there were plenty of good books on it.

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments Kristie, that's okay. I've never read Jaws by Peter Benchley , but have seen the movie many times. And I need it for the Fall 2017 Seasonal Reading Challenge. So all's good :D

message 66: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments My lists are:

Best Fantasy Series: Hidden Gems
What To Read After Harry Potter
Best Books About Ancient Rome
Books About Faery

I imagine I will read something from the Best Fantasy Series: Hidden Gems list as I have quite a few books from that list sitting on my TBR pile.

Very good, Anne. :) I'm thinking about reading Jaws for the yearly challenge.

message 68: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I really like this challenge! And like so many others, I'm enjoying just reading about the different lists everyone is finding!

Now, off to see what my lists will be. :)

message 69: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments This is a great challenge! The only issue I have is that between my lists there are some 7000+ books! And three of the four lists relate to little-known authors or books:

- Little Known Authors Worth Reading
- I Marked My Calendar For This Book's Release
- Best Unknown Books
- Best Unappreciated Books

Now to search for books on my TBR. With such long lists that shouldn't be too hard.

message 70: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments well, i won the jackpot as far as random lists go:

- Books you wish more people knew about - Part II
-100 Mysteries and Thrillers to Read in a Lifetime: Readers' Picks
-Women & Gender Studies
-I Should Probably Read This Sometime...

I am sure I can find something there..

message 71: by Cherie (last edited Aug 29, 2017 12:44PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finally had a chance to check the link today.
My four lists were:
- Books that would have appalled H.P. Lovecraft
Yeah - none of these were on my TBR list!
- Best Jane Austen Fan Fiction
Hmm - of the first 100 books listed I have read 3 and 8 were on my TBR.
IF I choose this topic, I might read The Jane Austen Book Club, if my library has it.
- Books About Cutting Yourself
What??? - no way!
- CLEAN Romance Books
Okay - I can do this one.
I looked at the first 200 books. I have read over 20 of them, and at least 9 were on my TBR.
IF I choose this list, Clockwork Angel appeals to me today.

message 72: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments They are interedting lists though Cherie nonetheless. I'm surprised at what people come up with.

message 73: by Cherie (last edited Aug 29, 2017 01:06PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I was curious and checked the Lists again. Good grief!
I got:
Novels of Domestic Life
YA Novels of 2019
family related romance story
Reverse Harem Favourites

I will keep my first list and my selections.

message 74: by Lori Z (new)

Lori Z | 2086 comments Thanks Rusalka! I think in the true spirit of the challenge I'll go with my first set of lists. I'm sure I'll find something.

I am also surprised at what people come up with... anyway, I loved Clockwork Angel Cherie, I hope you like it.

message 77: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I have narrowed my options down to Swordspoint, Traitor's Blade and The Lions of Al-Rassan. They all appeal to me but Lions is quite long so I imagine I will go for one of the others as they are shorter.

That's hilarious Cherie! Makes me realise how lucky I was with my lists lol

message 79: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Looking at what some of you were given, I was really lucky with my lists. They fitted together quite well and most were fantasy heavy which is one of the genres I read the most.

message 80: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments What is reverse harem? Stories about a woman with a harem of men?

message 81: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Peggy wrote: "What is reverse harem? Stories about a woman with a harem of men?"

Yep. I've read part of a series that is considered a reverse harem.
Ghost Bird: The Academy Omnibus Part 1: Books One - Four
It is VERY young adult with lots of angst and a total Mary Sue main character.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Peggy,
You made me curious, so I looked it up. Here is what it says:

Reverse Harem Favourites

Series, worlds where one woman can and does have more than one man who adores her in a wonderful HEA. Multiple Heroes.
All genres go- fantasy, new adult, romantica....
Books in no particular order of preference
Some books have MM action too

Books or series ending with an MF HEA( only one hero) not allowed.
---------------------------------------------------------------
There are 330 books on the list.
#1 on the list - with 106 votes is Introductions

Mariab | 3059 comments Ok. I have 10 lists there plus 5972 pages, with 10 lists each...

You just want the 4 lists that are under "Lists with recent activity". Don't click on the link "more lists with recent activity".

message 87: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments I just went back to see what lists are there now and one of the four was Books That Are Becoming Movies & TV Shows. There are 19 books on the first page that are on my TBR! Some of them I've lost interest in, but a couple I really want to read.

Just thought I'd mention it because it looks like a good list (to me). I'm sticking with my first lists, but I go back to see what's there every so often just for fun.

message 88: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I think it could become an obsession, going to check and see what headings come up under the list every day. Even worse, checking the books under some of the really strange ones.

One of them, I even added some books to yesterday. It was for Your Favorite Five Star Reads of 2017. One of mine were already on the list, so I added four more. ^_^

message 89: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks for enlightening me Kimey and Cherie. Some of the lists contain books I have no idea existed.

I have to look up MF HEA now though.

Sarah | 18550 comments Peggy wrote: "Ah, Male Female Happily Ever After"

Thanks Peggy. That saves me the hassle as I had no idea what it meant either. Learning new things every day...

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments I've got https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/9.... I'll read The Kite Runner.

It was very difficult to choose a book! Interessting lists.

message 93: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 1789 comments The only list I could see myself reading anything from out of the four I got was What People Born in the 1980's Have Read in 2017. Luckily for me, Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race is on that list (pretty high up on the first page, too). I own that book and am planning to read it for another reading challenge.

message 94: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments Cherie, that sounds like a good list too!

Introductions is the first book in the series that I have read parts of. I didn't know until a few books in that it was considered a reverse harem and was the first time I'd ever heard of such. The books were a guilty pleasure for me, but not something I'd ever recommend to anyone. Part of me wants to go back to the series, but I don't know if it was good enough to spend my valuable reading time on. You know, so many books, so little time!

message 96: by Delitealex (last edited Aug 31, 2017 12:25PM) (new)

Delitealex | 336 comments My lists were

message 98: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I like the sound of it too.

message 99: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I have discovered that if I choose the "Explore" tab on my iPod, when I open GoodReads, it takes me to Listopia and shows six catagories. I just checked on line and the four displayed under Recent Activity are the same, but there are two more on my iPod.
They are:
Best Left-Texas
The Best Urban Fantasy
Best Paranormal Romance Series
Best Dogs in Romance Novels: Canine not
Can't Wait Books of 2016
Best War Novels.

This is the best list I have ever gotten! ;-)
