Makes you wonder why so much of the very best writing from that era has been out of print.

It's like the mentality of my local library. They figure Stephen King and Dean Koontz covers the entire canon of horror literature.

My library is the same way.
The local Barnes & Noble, too.

Thank God for ebooks and Goodreads. I'm reading so much stuff these past five years or so that I otherwise never would have heard of.

Amen to that.
I started reading horror right before the publishing boom in the '70s, so I'm used to the hunt for good stuff.
It really bugged me when people looking for books would be directed towards the "Big Three".
I was always in the back, prowling for the stuff flying under the radar.
That's how I first discovered authors like McDowell, Hautala, Grant, Campbell, Herbert, Hodge, Masterton........

Bill (shiftyj1) | 4891 comments Crap. I need to get over my phobia of buying an ebook for over 7 bucks and just get this one. I am way past due for this one and agree with Eleven that it is a grievous HA party foul.

It's such a great story you won't regret it. I couldn't find my paperback so I bought the ebook, then of course a few days later I stumbled on the paperback, was filed in wrong spot.

Sometimes you have to stop and just pick up that book, the one you've always wanted to read :)

I concur with my esteemed colleague.

Bill (shiftyj1) | 4891 comments Ok. Got it. Kasia, Charlene and Jon talked me into it :)

Will have to start this one shortly, even though I am currently buried under my tbr. This one just floated to the top.

Nice Bill! Cant wait to hear your thoughts on it. It's a deeply picturesque story, images will paint themselves in your head as you read it. Scary stuff too :P

I was planning a trip to B&N to pick up Ghost Story today but it's too cold, my grocery trip left my fingers and toes as icicles so I definitely appreciate the ebook option, if available.

I'm ready for a re-read all ready, those dunes and the house, the windows, that summer heat and disconnect from civilization.. it's on my brain. The images this book created in my mind are so addictive, delicious, not sure how to phrase it.. might be because I love dunes lol.

Ron Reese | 4 comments I maintain this is one of the best southern spookfests ever...I'm glad Vanancourt Books are reprinting his novels...I just wish someone would do some nice limited editions of them. Centepede Press is just releasing a beautiful edition of The Blackwater series...expensive, but I will see Tuesday if it was worth it ...

Wow, they have a lot of great looking books on that site, Masters of the Weird Tale by Fred Chappell looks especially good.

Yeah, seriously, although I can spend more on groceries that dont last as long as a stunning book, I try to rationalize those purchases to myself :P

I watched THE BLUE DAHLIA earlier, ready to get back to my reading, as soon as my Kindle finishes charging. :)

That's one thing that brings me back to reality, that red and white batterazis picture flashing lol.

The Blue Dahlia, I had to look it up, love the premise, I will have to watch this now. I actually had Veronica Lake paper dolls a few years back, well many years back hehe.

I spend this afternoon making a stellar ( I hope) tomato sauce for either stuffed shells or manicotti still thinking up my cheese and garlic spinach additions... Choices choices.

I've been alternating between my Kindle and paper books lately.

Fantastic movie. I've been wanting to see it for years.

I'm sure it's nothing short of mouthwatering! I love stuffed shells and manicotti! I wanna try them all! ;)

I'm making 40 Cloves of Garlic chicken.

I read 'salem's Lot in paperback, even when I kept switching to Kindle for light and space purposes it just felt to nice to hold that book as I flipped the cream pages. It's rare to have both though.

I might make both pasta wise ( dual on point here haha) and cook them up in separate dishes!

Yum, I'm getting a new dutch oven soon, that will actually be the 1st thing I'm making!

There's nothing like the feel of a real book.

Nice!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 955 comments Thanks to another thread on here (actually not this one...) I picked it up in ebook form two weeks ago. Hate spending money on ebooks but it was highly recommended and the out of print I saw when browsing is $$$ >:0

Was planning to finally start it this week. At least it has it's own thread....

message 233: by Char (new)

Char | 17457 comments Yep! Valancourt has one more of his they're bringing out this year for sure and that's Gilded Needles. They may have another, but they're mum on the subject so far-so they must be working hard on it. :)

Thank you Charlene :)

Unfortunately I don't have any more of his work...yet. Will definitely be hunting more down, though.
