► UNSOLVED: One specific book > The Eclipse reminded me of a YA book I read in the early 80s. One scene: Native American boy in woods remembering his grandfather telling story of the moon being eaten by a giant frog and the tribe drummed for a long time and the frog spit it back out

This was only a small scene.

It was a young adult/children's book I read in the early 80s. From what I remember a small group of Native Americans were travelling through the woods and were trying to retrieve horses stolen from their settlement by another tribe. The main character manages to rescue a horse and gets separated from the rest of his group and must make the difficult trek back to his home alone. It was probably set during colonial times, the Native Americans had horses but did not much if any interaction with colonists.
