I am planning to give this book to my husband for Christmas, so I may be able to steal it to join in :)
Can I join? This book is on my tbr and I have wanted to start it, I think February is the best time for me to read it

Of course. The more the merrier.

If all of you want to do a read sooner than Feb 5th I can change the date. There's no need to wait for me. I'm overbooked as it is so I'm going to wait.
Don't bother changing it for me, Scott. I am still reading the Malazan books so I am not able to commit to buddy reads now. :) I might start Illuminae this weekend but I don't have a timeline to finish it.
You were much stronger than me, Maciel. I read the book in one sitting. Sorry, folks! I just couldn't stop reading it!Shame!🔔 Shame! 🔔 Shame! 🔔
I will join the discussion in February though.
Miche i'm not stronger than you. I failed xD I'm about to finish the second book :D >////< /° I couldn't help it xD
I really liked this book... the audiobook is good, too, if anyone does those... a number of different narrators... and sound effects for the space battles and emergency klaxons... I might join in for Gemina if I haven't read it before you guys get to it...

I already finished it /*O*/
Yes, utterly shame on us! SHAMEEEE 😂 😂 😂
but...
BUT!
I already read the first one and I'm looking for the second one! I'd love too join the discussion later tho! It's such an amazing book!
I nearly finished the 1st book as well :) Could not wait until February.I would love to share my thoughts with you all as well.
I've wanted to read this for a while, but for some reason I never did, this buddy read just solved that problem Looking forward to reading this with all of you.
I’ve this book for over 2 years now, so is about time to read it. Looking forward for the 5th of February
I'm in. Why you may ask? This is why:Cait (Paper Fury) rated it it was amazing

RE-READ REVIEW:
Yes yes I am officially 100% Illuminae trash and I COULD CRY BECAUSE I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH. I literally....afjkdlasfd. What am I even supposed to say here? OKAY. Just a few like "reread" thoughts in list format because that's who I am.
• First off the audiobook is freaking amazing and I CANNOT RECOMMEND IT ENOUGH. It's got tons of voices, it's basically dramatised, there is MUSIC and like beep-booping (shh, technical term there) of machines and I lovelovelovelovelove it.
• The emotion in the audiobook actually nearly made me CRY.
Just got the book today, so I'll be joining in on this one, and hopefully for the rest of the series. Excited to discuss.
I made a start last night. :) I'm only about 20 pages in, but first impressions are good. I find the way the story is told interesting so far. It's definitely different to what I've been reading lately!
Yikes. I did the first 20% at the gym this morning. If this doesn't improve in a hurry there's no way I'm moving on. It's far too YA.

Yea... that's not going anywhere, sadly... I lived with it, but it's pretty prevalent in both the books...

I get what you mean about the banter. I'm hoping the story keeps me interested, we'll see!
@Scott, are you using the audio or the physical book? I don't think I would have enjoyed this series if I had used the audio, even if they have the graphic audio feel.Did you get to the AI pov already? That and the book format were the reasons that made this book good for me.
Miche wrote: "@Scott, are you using the audio or the physical book? I don't think I would have enjoyed this series if I had used the audio, even if they have the graphic audio feel.Did you get to the AI pov al..."
I completely agree with Miche about this.

I was going to ask the same thing. I'm only 25% in but I've liked all the different things being done with the pages in the physical copy. It's a nice change from the normal.
Hacen wrote: "I was going to ask the same thing. I'm only 25% in but I've liked all the different things being done with the pages in the physical copy. It's a nice change from the normal."I trully enjoyed the physical copy. They did a spectacular job with the formatting.
Just finished the monthly book read of Nevernight, by the same author. It's one of the best medieval assassin titles I've ever read. Really looking forward to starting this tomorrow! :D
I was too biased before starting this book.It looked like reading maps and reports would get boring at a point. But no!!! Ezra's mails made me laugh a lot :)
I'm only 27 pages in and I have to say it's really hooked me! The format of this is awesome. My brain apparently likes the varied formatting and little notations. I think this would actually be a great one to read on audio, even though I'm not usually an audio fan.@Siobhan, agreed it's completely different to the adult epic fantasy I've been reading lately, really enjoying the change.
@Scott it's definitely got a very YA feel, especially the dialogue. I'm okay with that since the characters are supposed to be 17. I'm currently reading Wizards Rule and really struggling with that since the characters are supposed to be adults but their conversations are so cringe worthy and awkward.
@Miche I agree 100% with physical copy. It's just so cool to look at, it's really helped bring me into the story.
@Hacen I have to force myself not to click your spoiler, I'm dying to know what happens next, I can't wait to finish work!
I'm definitely enjoying the format. Glad I have the physical book. I love all the notations and different mediums, keeps my brain interested!
I haven't started this one yet, haven't even procured it. So that being said, I was going to get the audiobook. But I'm hearing the physical is better? What about kindle? I hate physical books. Too heavy to lug around with me.

I was just thinking yesterday it would probably look cool on kindle because a lot of the pages are formatted like Web pages/messenger screens. If anyone has the ebook, what do you think? :)
Okay I'm 80 pages in now and I desperately dont want to put it down. Things are happening! So I really what to know why the AI (view spoiler)This style of this also heavily reminds me of These Broken Stars. Same YA, sci-fi, told after the fact in pieces, dual character POV. I really enjoyed that book so hopefully I'll enjoy this one too. Sometimes I can get a bit bored with linear, chronological order story telling so it's nice to have something a bit different.
Siobhan wrote: "Diana Stormblessed wrote: "I haven't started this one yet, haven't even procured it. So that being said, I was going to get the audiobook. But I'm hearing the physical is better? There's something really cool about this in paperback form.
Looks like it's available at the library. Will have to try to swing by tonight after work to try to check it out.
Diana Stormblessed wrote: "Looks like it's available at the library. Will have to try to swing by tonight after work to try to check it out."Ooh good plan.
Finished. I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️. Loved the visual of the book and AIDAN and the Phobos virus were interesting but the tone of the book is too YA for me and the main characters fell flat.
Ok, I listed to about 10% of this and I dropped it! Holy fuck this is bad!I was told that this had a ton of voices, and it really well dramatized. Well yeah, it's got tons of people voicing it, but they reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallly slowly, and they're very monotone. It killed any chance of me enjoying this.
And if you're wondering why I don't wanna just read it? Well it's simple, I would never actually just read something like this. I don't want to read what are supposed to be interviews and documents, it just comes off as awkward.
Shame the audio turned out to be too good to be true.
So yeah, I'm dropping this with extreme prejudice.
