message 356: by Agnieszka (last edited Jan 02, 2020 07:03AM) (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 616 comments Edit:
I knew there was a reason I originally came to this thread (other than a new letter pair) - I finished my previous pair CR (msg. #351): Crashing Into Love - Where Personal Tragedies, Faith, & Love Collide by Yvonne Lehman 5* 12/31
This was a collection of three short stories - connected by a car accident. It was so much better than what I expected and I already look forward to read the next one by this author.

I take MO with Mord zur besten Sendezeit=Death of a Diva

New Pairs: AD & NE

I finished it and still don't know if I want continue this series.

Since it looks like you don't like my AD I checked my Kindle and iBooks and found some books with ADVENTURE in title I could imagine to read or there's still Kitchen Addiction! I'll decide on it when I finish my LA & DO books (both currently reading - or at least started :-)

Next Pairs: NE & ST

message 358: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) It's not that we don't like it. Sometimes relationships take time -- even relationships between letter pairs and TBRs! :-D

I'll take NE with Better Late Than Never (Library Lover's Mystery, #7) by Jenn McKinlay Better Late Than Never.

New Pairs:

Connie N. | 3773 comments I'll take RO, reading Roman by Sawyer Bennett

NEXT: ST and TH

message 362: by Agnieszka (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 616 comments Finally finished one of my 'oldies' DO (msg. #260) once again with a different book than I originally planned Doing Germany 2 by Agnieszka Paletta 3* 1/11 but I needed this one much more for my challenges :-)

I can't decide which one to take I like both so let's start from beginning and I use both. ST for one of my two Star books (for Quilting challenge) either You Don't Have to Be a Star or Mainhattan Star and I decide on a book for TH as soon as I finished my other oldie.

New Pairs: NO & MR

I had to return it to the library and get it again. But I did finish 12/27/19.

New Pairs: AD and CR

message 364: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) @Joanne -- Yay!
@Connie -- Swear one of these days I'm going to put up three pairs and they'll be MO, NE and GU so you can claim all three with that book called "Mostly Nekkid Guy" that is no doubt on your TBR!

message 365: by Helen (new)

Helen | 1255 comments Okay, I finished Mo Willems' You Can Never Find a Rickshaw When It Monsoons: The World on One Cartoon a Day You Can Never Find a Rickshaw When It Monsoons The World on One Cartoon a Day by Mo Willems for IT, from #353 on this page. It was a fascinating log book of his trip around the world, mostly by hitchhiking, buses & trains!

Now I'll take the AD to read The Surprising Adventures of the Magical Monarch of Mo and His People The Surprising Adventures of the Magical Monarch of Mo and His People by L. Frank Baum #79 on my TBR list!

message 367: by Agnieszka (last edited Jan 18, 2020 11:42AM) (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 616 comments Finally I finished my LA (& MI) book from message #333 Last Mile=The Last Mile by David Baldacci 5* 1/18 - loved it so much - even more than #1in series Memory Man

I noticed I forgot to report back my TH book (message #363) I read it the same day I picked the pairs *YAY* though only because I had it on my TBR for ages and there was a really great deal on Kindle unlimited in Germany so I could try it out starting with this book for 3 month *Double YAY* Threat Level Critical by James Flynn 4* 1/11

I just wanted to take WH but wondered what happened to MR and have the impression JoAnne picked the pairs from the last message of the previous page.
@Jennifer would it be fine with you if I pick all three pairs* and we start it with a new set?

* I mean, the two that were jumped over and the one Helen picked.

message 368: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Yes. Good catch. I didn’t realize that happened.

message 369: by Agnieszka (last edited Jan 18, 2020 02:47PM) (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 616 comments Jennifer wrote: "Yes. Good catch. I didn’t realize that happened."

Great! In that case I'll read the following:
NO: Noelle on the Run
MR: Who Murdered Mr. Malone?
WH: When God Was a Rabbit

While waiting for your answer I struggled through Starr Witness (the other one from message #363) and will takle immediatelly Noelle on the Run (#8 in series & book set - which I will delete most likely as soon as I'm finished - so far my 'favorite' was 3.5* - the best thing I can say about most of these stories is: luckily they are short)

Next pairs: TO & GR

message 370: by Agnieszka (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 616 comments As expected I finished Noelle on the Run by Alexa Verde book 8 in The 12 Mysteries of Christmas Collection 4* 1/20 the same night. So far it was the best in the book set/series but all in all this series nothing I'd really recommend.

i'm always of two minds about sets like this, particularly if there's something by an author I like that I can't get any other way unless I buy 11 other people's stuff.

message 372: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1868 comments Not to mention that many of the books in those collections are too short to use individually to fill spots in some challenge groups :)

message 373: by Agnieszka (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 616 comments The main reason I was willing to invest the 1 Euro in this set was because I've seen is as a fast way to see if I like any of the authors - they appear to be rather popular among Christians and sell their books at pretty low cost. I've read at least one story by all but one of them and so far there's only one I'll look further into.

message 384: by Agnieszka (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 616 comments Oops either my last post got lost or I forgot to save it. Luckily the EN's still available :-)

I really, really need Enigma for several challenges. Since it's a historical fiction book I put it off for more than a year now and decided this to be the perfect way to finally get it read.

Next pairs: GR & AV

message 385: by Helen (new)

Helen | 1255 comments Helen A.

I enjoyed The Dog Is Not a Toy The Dog Is Not a Toy by Darby Conley !

Next I'll take GR. I can't find adult books on my TBR so I'll read: It's All Greek to Me It's All Greek to Me by Jon Scieszka !

Next pairs: AV and DI

message 386: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I'll take DI with Digging Up History (Museum, #8) by Sheila Connolly Digging Up History.

I like this title very much :-)

Next Pairs: AV & ID

message 388: by Helen (new)

Helen | 1255 comments It's All Greek to Me It's All Greek to Me by Jon Scieszka is definitely a book for just kids!!

Now, I will take the ID and read: How Ideas Spread How Ideas Spread by Jonah Berger !

Next Pairs: AV & SA

message 389: by Agnieszka (last edited Feb 27, 2020 08:01AM) (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 616 comments I read yesterday my AV book (from message #358) The Adventure of the Egyptian Tomb by Agatha Christie 3* 2/26 - I still don't like Poirot even if this was one of the more enjoyable in the series.

Since I want to give a try Say You're Sorry by Melinda Leigh I'll take SA.

The new Pairs: AV & ER

message 390: by Jennifer (last edited Mar 08, 2020 11:23AM) (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I've finished four of my back list of picks for this challenge -- Crisis in the Red Zone The Story of the Deadliest Ebola Outbreak in History, and of the Outbreaks to Come by Richard Preston Digging Up History (Museum, #8) by Sheila Connolly Four Weddings And A White Christmas (Cherry Pie Island) by Jenny Oliver and Nine Lessons (Josephine Tey #7) by Nicola Upson . Of course, I'm still behind by four but whatever....

I'll take AV with The Ghost of Madison Avenue by Nancy Bilyeau .

So I finished Slated for Death (Penny Brannigan Mystery, #6) by Elizabeth J. Duncan before actually admitting to myself that it was five, not four -- so now it is four, but I don't really feel like i've accomplished anything...

message 395: by Connie N. (new)

Connie N. | 3773 comments You're an inspiration, Jennifer! My books for this challenge languish for weeks before I finish them.

message 396: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) OMG Connie, i just went and looked at my oldest pick to see how long it's been languishing....... since August 2018!!!!

But I did get to see a lot of your MNG (Mostly Nekkid Guys) on my way through the pages. That mollified me somewhat.

Current Pairs: RE & ER

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Having just paged through your picks above I'm half inclined to believe the real reason you weren't wild about A Lover's Secret by Bethany Bloom was that the guy on the cover was overdressed.
