That's a very interesting title. I noticed most of her titles are very unsual. Unfortunatelly
a) the book I'd like to read most The Art of Forgetting isn't available on Kindle in Germany :-(
b) not one of the author's book is listed in any of my libraries.
So I hope for a nice deal to see if the books are as great as the titles indicate. I'd like to learn how you liked it.

Current Pairs: DR and PA

Change is the Only Constant The Wisdom of Calculus in a Madcap World by Ben Orlin

Don't have anything that will work for the current pairs, but I'll keep watching.

SANDYE (sandye_c) | 1219 comments I'll jump in on this for the first time and choose

PA - Paranormal Nonsense: Blue Moon Investigations Book 1 by Steve Higgs

Letter Pairs for the next participant are:

DR and SC

message 305: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Welcome to the "trouble," Sandye! This is a pretty laid back challenge - you can pick pairs whenever you want. You don't have to have finished the last before you can pick the next. We try to repeat the pairs at the bottom of a "non-pick" comment (like this one) so they're easy to find. Enjoy!

Current pairs: DR and SC

message 306: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Actually I just realized that one of my upcoming reads has an SC in the title. I'll take that with Scandal in Skibbereen (County Cork, #2) by Sheila Connolly Scandal in Skibbereen.

New Pairs: DR and AT

message 307: by Agnieszka (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 616 comments Finally I knocked down one of my older pairs TR Acquiring Trouble by Kathleen Brooks 4* 8/26

So far the current pairs don't appeal to me and I still have another two open. Still after I set up the books for September I'll check back.

Current Pairs: DR & AT

message 308: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Congrats on making progress, Agnieszka! I don't have any upcoming that fit either but sooner or later someone will. :)

That are the best books. I started today another one of those and even if it's pretty suspensful and has two time lines I hope to finish it tomorrow.
Unfortunatelly I have to go grocery shopping so I have some food at home for tomorrow (in Germany shops are closed on Sundays) and I have to make a break right now grrrrrrr.

message 318: by Jennifer (last edited Sep 18, 2019 03:26PM) (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Finished two of my prior picks for this challenge The Queen of Hearts by Kimmery Martin which I liked much better than I expected to based on its average ratings, and The Deep, Deep Snow by Brian Freeman . This one was a standout for me this year. A very well told story -- lots of threads, totally unexpected plot twists, the narrator's voice is true and fresh throughout. I've read two of his Frost Easton books, and all of his Jonathan Stride books, and I think one of the Cab Coltons, so I have some bias for this author. But this one surprised me -- highly recommend!

I'm not going to look for books to fit the current pairs, because I realized that I took a combination before the 'on' pair and I haven't finished that one yet. Sorry!

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 616 comments I just finished my TR book One Night in Tehran by Luana Ehrlich 3* 10/31 (from msg. #236) and it was ok though not nearly as great as the prequel that was published several years later, which gives me hope the books will get better. This was her debut and needs some work.

I knew there was a reason I wanted to finish this one soon :-)
The characters were interesting though not always obvious why mentioned - especially since the first two parts of the book were more or less a a collection of recollections/flash-backs from his ten years as CIA operative before he become Christ. The actual plot started in part 3 and was ok - though I still don't get the title. The only thing I can think of it could be a wink to his last night in Tehran when he made the decision to follow Jesus (only briefly mentioned in the prequel and this book)
The writting style was the worst part of this novel - the most irksome was how often the author used the word 'however' - in total 202 times (285 pages novel) and there were pages it appeared up to 5 times and at least one short paragraph with 3 of those. In the second half of the book I cringed and shuddered inwardly almost each time I've seen it.

I'm grabbing MI though I'm not sure yet if I'll go for Mistake Creek or one of my Mistletoe books. I'll decide as soon as I'm finished with my next one which I'm in the mood for.

The next pairs: SA & CH
Since it looked some other people wanted start with their Christmas reading as well :-)

message 335: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) From CIA to Christ? There's a bizarre plot line. Also sounds like the author needed an editor, LOL. Good letter choices for next!
